That Yaris hatchback is small, but still not as small as a Smart Car, but the Yaris gets better mpg than the Smart Car.

Go see if you can test drive one. Apparently they are harder to find in larger cities, but who knows. Definitely try and find a 5 speed but if not at least the auto will give you a sense of how it handles, space concerns, etc.

5 speed Yari merging, accelerating, etc are a whole nother ballgame. It just soooo light.

Modding the daily driver...

Stock height:

Stock rear:

2 inch drop:

Hub spacers:

You know I cant leave well enough alone ::lol

I must say, Ive gotten used to the cornering feel of lowered cars. Now the Yaris feels "normal." Wont be able to drive a stock car again, I suppose.

also, it's ironic that they're so patriotic with the smart car and that's not even a US made vehicle.

Yeah, rwd midship, but I agree, one the trendiness wears off, sales are going to plummet. There are cars out there that offer a lot more utility and better gas mileage (Yaris, Fit).

I bet half of the 'Americana' stuff you guys throw your flag on isn't made in the U.S. either. Flags, t-shirts, wallpaper borders, napkins, tablecloths, bandanas, place mats, rugs, blankets, hats...Well, you get the point.

Saki -- Do you guys have the Yaris sedan there? Were you mostly interested in a hatch, or would you have considered the sedan too?

Real world mpg comparisions and the Yaris gets the same and sometimes better mpgs.

I get 40 driving in stop and go and the EPA says I should only get 36 on the highway. Its just an average

We get the sedan here, but I think the hatch looks better. They get similar mpgs, though.

The engine is so quiet and smooth (hell, anything is compared to my car with aftermarket motor mounts) we dont plan on doing anything that changes that.

Rimz when the tires go eventually. Lots of cheap options for a 16 inch 4x100.

I could have swore that the numbers were different a couple months ago on that very same website...

I was BS'ing with someone about high MPG vehicles, and we bother assumed that since the SmartCar is so small it had to get better mileage then the other non-hybrids out there. We were suprised when the website showed differently... Maybe the SmartCar numbers were estimates, or had not been done with the revised testing standards.
