Looks like LS460's selfpark has some issues (VID)

I agree chief, but if they make that feature available for perpendicular parking, it should work, don't you think? How could they not integrate that system with the reverse ranging thing so that you can't back into something?
All I can say is wow. I think most of us agree this is a useless feature but at least before watching that I thought it actually worked.

Parallel parking is no long on some DMV's testing procedures anymore. Perhaps they think that that we as a society are completely unable to parallel park anymore! They might be right.
One thing's for sure - this system doesn't seem to do any better.

Perhaps Lexus should consider a hydraulic jack at the exact center under the car, allowing to spin on it's proverbial axis...That's about the only way they were going to cut that corner...

I gotta admit that is pretty funny and the idea of a self parking car is kind of senseless but on the other hand I get the impression not one of those monkeys in the car read the owners manual (or has clue 1 about where it might be) .Great technology is still not a solution for replacing totally clueless drivers.

I don't really know how that self parking thing works, and I can't watch the video right now, but do you think Lexus covers damages to your wheels if they happen to get curbed while self parking?
I would image they wouldn't because they'd probably get hit with numerous claims from people who tried to park themselves and accidentally hit the curb. On the other hand I'd be extremely pissed if my wheels were curbed while it tried to park itself.

This is one of those stupid features like rain sensing whipers.. like stated earlier, if you can't park it, don't drive, or buy something your stupid brain can judge the distance on.
(similar to the rain whipers, if you can't tell it's raining.. well I dunno what to say).
Blazin Si, who's that chick in ur avatar man!

that video was useless. it's meant to parellel park, it's not meant to be used by idiots who want to see how far they can push the envelope. that park job was ridiculous and badly set up so that the car couldn't do it. there are plently other actual videos of the car parellel parking itself. i wonder why they didn't feel like showing what the feature was actually made to do?
oh, but wait till acura comes out with that feature. evvvvveryone will love it then.....

Could we do the same thing... sure. It is something that is necessary, absolutely not. But it's pretty cool and works very well unlike the self-parking system in that video (although I agree with the masses that they were setting it up to fail).

I might be overly critical though, I always see retards here in Florida, that just drove through some rain, then when we're out of the storm, and the asphal is dry, yet they are still runing the whipers.
Or we're in some seriously heavy rain, they got the whipers on high, driving a silver car, no head lights... So to me all these "features" seem to be helping out idiots get around, as opposed to doing the right thing, teaching them proper driving safety and awareness. Anyways, sorry for the rant.... I totally trashed this thread didn't I.
btw, I can't see the video, i'm at the office, can't wait to get home

^ Nah, no thread trashing here. It's not unusual for a thread to go off-course for a little bit.
BTW, the video is funny, but didnt' need to be as long as it was since it made its point early. Still worth the watch...

I think the self parking feature is a revolutionary system that may help to put us in the direction of self driven cars. Also its obvious that the idiots in the clip had no idea what they were doing, it was pretty much like having a monkey try to operate cruise control. Maybe they would have had a much easier time if they spent 5 mins reading the manual.

Each time that the system mysteriously auto-canceled the guidance is cause the guy kept hitting the accelerator while the car was thinking. I've seen it in action and it's not the fastest process in the world, but it generally works. I'm not sure if they actually hit something, but oh well. Ain't like they were trying to be very professional about it, seems like it was all in good fun.
Personally, I think it's a decent feature. Only question is: who the fuck will use it? I'd never have it on a car that I own, that's for sure, and I'm sure most people under the age of 50 will find it useless, cause everyone's always in a hurry. And how many >50 year olds will know how to work that touchscreen and tell it what they want in less time than they can do it themselves?
