Looking for bulb opinions

Well, the visibility driving our CR-V absolutely sucks at night. I know I won't get the visibility of my TL without installing a HID kit, but I'm not going to do that in this vehicle.

However, the visibility is worse than even the Accord, with it's Silverstars. What would be a great non-HID bulb for this?

BTW - the manual says H4/HB4, which I know corresponds to the 9003 and 9006. So I could conceivably swap in the 9006 Silverstars into the CR-V and they fit? I wouldn't really mind that, but if there's something brighter, I'd spend the money. Not looking for any tint, just clear white light. Thanks.

Perhaps your headlights are out of alignment.
Check that first.

is the problem not being able to see as far as you'd like, or is it just a lack of light output? Having the TL has definitely spoiled your liking for headlights, like me...

For some more output, you could first try polishing up the headlight lenses, over time the road wears down the UV coating on them and causes them to yellow over. This yellowing over severely cuts down on light output.

Next you could try some better bulbs, Hoen makes some awesome bulbs that are whiter and brighter than regular bulbs.

If the lights aren't still up to your liking, you could always buy a cheap set of retrofited lights off of ebay and pop in a TL or TSX projector instead of the one included.

In either case do not use a plug and play HID kit, you'll do nothing but cause harmful glare for the on coming traffic.

Buff the lenses using an orbital buffer and meguiar's plastx clear lens polish, this will rejuvenate the lenses and take out the cloudiness and fogginess that may have accumulated due to damage from UV rays.

Also, upgrade to Sylvania Ultra Silver star bulbs, you can pick up a pair from ebay for your desired application i.e. HB3/HB4 etc.

For now this should solve the issue, if you plan on keeping the car for a long period of time them you might want to think about doing a retrofit using OEM components i.e. projectors, ballasts, bulbs etc.

It's a 2002. That's one of the reasons I don't want to do a HID conversion. The headlights look in outstanding shape, but I may do the buffing. Certainly don't need any wetsanding done. I'm concerned about using the SSU because of all the reviews about ultra short life.

^^ I have had them in my car for more than a year now without any issues and I love the output.

You can always try products from PIAA.

PIAA's is some of the bext halogen bulbs out there, i run them in my bike and it's very bright however it's nothing compared to HID's. for an extra 50 bucks over the piaa's you can get mobilhid's kit. i know they are a vendor here and it's one of the best and safest kit. now the light output would be great.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but my dad has an 09 Ody. Is it alright to put the HID kit? Would it create too much glare to oncoming traffic? The highest trim Ody actually has a stock HID. That's why I thought it'd be alright to put it on but just wanted to make sure.

I mean we can get any type of legit HID kit from our vendor for like 70 bucks. I might just put it in for my dad's car.

i would honestly only get a kit from mobilHID or xenondepot. both kits are water proof and rubber injected. check out mobilhid's website and see thier tests. i know moiblhid is a sponser on here a well as CL.

you wouldn't have an issue running HId's in the oddy. you will get great output just make sure thier aimed right and the oncoming traffic shouldn't be problem. i have stock HID's and i put in the hid kit for the fogs, easily almost doubled my visibility.

^ Yeah, I changed out my stock HID bulb in 05 TL with 6K bulb, as well as the stock halogen foglight with 6K HID kit. It doubled my visibility. I love it.

How do you change the aiming of the output?

None of the USDM Honda Ody trims come with HID. However they have a decent relector and with proper downward adjustment, you would get much better visibility than Halogen and avoid blinding oncoming traffic.

For height adjustment there are screws in the headlight assembly that you can turn to move things up or down. It also has a little sign saying which way is up & which way is down.. for more details you can check at odyclub forum as they have a good bit of info on the 3G ody.
