Looking at a 2G Mazda MPV (Thoughts/Experiences?)

looking at picking up a decent minivan for occasional use to haul stuff for the house and use on a few family trips this summer...

i have a relative who is getting rid of his MPV currently with approx 120k mi... i'm not sure what yr it is, but i know it is a second gen model... i have borrowed the car when i had to pick up a few things from home depot and the engine is smooth, no leaks, and no visible mechanical issues or CEL... A/C blows ice cold, just the interior is a little dirty and the paint is a bit neglected from the previous owner before him but no rust... i'm sure i can detail everything to look fresh again...

does anyone have any prior experiences with this model car...

I'd say get an Odyssey. Mazadas, especially old ones, really suck. IMO.

Yeah, try to find some decent Oddy or Sienna.

But one of my friend used to have this very old 1st gen MPV and it was a rock solid car even with very high mileage on it.

Look for a 2007-2011 Odyssey. Our 2007 had 226k on it and ran perfectly. No major problems ever, although we do maintain our vehicles meticulously. If I had a 3 car garage I would have kept it for occasional use. We sold ours for $5k in one day.

I was going to suggest a trailer...

Either that or a 1G Ford Expedition. Cheap and indestructible (provided it's not rusty), if you're going to go, might as well go all the way.

I have had 2 1G MPVs.... i loved and hated them all at the same time.

But 2G is 100% Minivan compare to 1G.

If it is dirt cheap, sure. If it cost a lot, why limit yourself?

Good. I had an 05 that gave me some trouble. There was a common misfire issue and I had to change the coils and plugs and it took me about 7 hours with hand tools because you have to remove the intake manifold and TB
