Q & A:
ChicagoZ.com : What got you hooked to the 350z that you ended up purchasing it?
ZippyCar : I have always wanted a sports car. I saw the Z early in 03 and instantly fell in love with it. I really like the curves of the car. The car had to be red and a track model. One Saturday Morning I woke up and just decided to buy it. When I came home my 3 yr. old, just learning to talk, called it a “Zippy” car and the name just stuck
ChicagoZ.com : What action does your Z mostly see? drag, autox, road race, show car, weekend car, and/or daily driver...
ZippyCar : I am not really into drag racing, or Auto-X, and Zippy sees too much track time to hit the show circuit. Zippy may not be the prettiest with all the show stopping Bling Bling that makes people drool, but she sure puts out on the track. Zippy is my track car that I try to keep as street friendly as possible. I got hooked on track days (HPDE) the first summer I owned Zippy. A friend asked me to join him and some other enthusiasts at Gratten Speedway in Michigan… ever since then I have been hooked. In fact I have the dreaded sickness of Racers Creep. Zippy can be seen at the Barrington Cruise Nights.
ChicagoZ.com : Any performance specs? 1/4 mile@mph, whp/wtorq, track times...
ZippyCar : She is fast. I don’t have any ¼ mile data but I’ am confident that Zippy has always had more to give on the track, it’s the driver that held her back.
Tuan at GRD dynoed her at 443rwhp at 8psi boost initially. Zippy is back at GRD to get the bottom end in. My goal is to be around 440 – 450. I have no desire to push past 500rwhp.
ChicagoZ.com : What other modifications are you planning on doing to the Z if any? Whether it's performance, handling, appearance, and/or sound system....
ZippyCar : I would like to upgrade the suspension to a more adjustable set up. A set of Double Adjustable Coil Overs and 350EVO adjustable anti-sway bars are on my shopping list. Maybe an ATS Carbon / Carbon clutch. I am in the process of having an integrated roll harness bar fabricated at Fall Line Motorsports to be welded to the frame of Zippy. So long spare tire, but hey - it just adds weight. I am looking at changing out the hood to a TC II CF hood from Seibon. This has two big scoops to vent the heat from the twins. I am looking at different front bumpers to assist in channeling air in the FMIC, and more importantly – incorporate the addition of oil coolers. So the C-West or Initial D are the leading candidates at this point. Whichever one I choose, I am going to paint them to match Zippy. Eventually I would like to add some tunes to her. I am looking at the Kenwood DDX 7015 head unit and some nice speakers. Once you get bit by the Can’tstopmodifyingmyZ–itis it becomes an evolutionary process ~ you’re never truly done upgrading your Z.
ChicagoZ.com : Won any awards? Have any sponsorships?
ZippyCar : Car of the year would be the best award! Just being nominated is an honor. I didn’t get in to this for the sponsorship opportunities and while sponsorships would be nice, I have worked with some really great people in the Chicago area: Tuan at GRD and Charles at CJ motor Sports, and Chris at Ultimate Z. The Z community should consider them selves very lucky to have such great resources readily available. I have also worked with Wright Tuning better known as 350EVO. BJ Zechariahs has been Instrumental in assisting me in setting Zippy up for tracking!
