Little fun with 350Z

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Those cars are pretty bad ass. I was taking a corner around one today that was stuck behind a slower car, he did not seem to appreciate me passing on him so he got up on my ass. I came to a light with me in one lane and another car in another. The 350 z was right behind me. Decided to rev, it up, peel out, launch at 3k. Then I hit second and held it. He went to pass me, and I think I waited to long to stomp on the gas in to second, was surprised at how quick that car is. He barely got in front of me before hitting the car in front of him in his lane. I backed off becuase it was getting crowded. Now he was in front at the next light and he launced it, as well as I, I stayed with him on his tail. Never got to a light with him unfortunately. I pulled up beside him as I was about to get the arrow and said sweet car, he was kind of the jerk off type....I was just complimenting him. It was a 6 speed. Would that car rape me off the line? Oh I have the 6MT TL 04

Well, it weighs about 150 pound more and has at least 85 more HP and much more low end torque. Plus it's RWD. So yes, it's faster.

it doesn't have 85 more hp, but it does have more low end + rwd = nice off the line

2 of my good friends have 04 6-speed TL's.. We raced a few times in the past and my Z is definitely faster.

From a stand-still, I killed the TL due to the fact a 270hp FWD car is hard to launch. From a roll, the Z is still faster, but the TL doesn't do so bad on the highway. Overall, I love the TL, but it's not as quick as the Z.

The Z has 289hp.

The Gran Turismo edition in Europe(aka "30th anniversary version" in North America)has 300hp.

What the heck does that have to do with this thread??

I saw a Top Fuel Dragster on TV that can beat my Z in a race as well.

i have the 05 350Z.. and yes its 298horses and 270lbft tourque. ive beaten my share of TL's.. but yeah its also an unfair disadvantage for the TLs.. the Z is meant to accelerate and have fun around corners, but i do love the comfiness of my TL. the only thing i dont like is that the Z is very jumpy with the shifting. its not that smooth at all. its a harsh car to drive and its not a great car to have around my area. NY/NJ. fall into a pothole and it scrapes the bottom of the body.

and i dont get the guy who randomly throws out cars that was never mentioned in this thread.. mr obvious needs to stop talking.

Do you have the Track or 30th Anniversary model of the 2005 Z? If so, then you have the 300hp / 260lb/ft version of the VQ. It has 14 lb/ft less torque but 13 more hp than the VQ used in the 2003-2004 or 2005 Base, Enthusiast, Performance or Touring Z. Either version is very similar in acceleration.

In regards to the shifting, I think the Z has a great transmssion. It is actually less touchy than the 6-speed TL as the clutch has a smoother and longer engagement point.

I've had my Z for 2.5 years and I drive it to Manhattan multiple times a week. I agree the ride is fairly harsh, but I have never scraped the bottom of the body in all my years of ownership. Not sure what type of pot hole you have ever hit.

except the Corolla S model... That body kit alone easily adds 150hp.... I definitely can't compete.
