Is Lexus the best car for the money ???

After owning a Benz and an Acura I am really starting to think that Lexus gives you the best bang for your buck.

the SC430 has excellent resale value and no problems

the Rx330 that my boy has is according to him the best car he has ever owned

some of my other friends with the GS and LS absolutely love their cars.

Acura was right up with them but the last couple of years they have not been able to keep up.

Im curious on what you guys think cause Lexus is really becoming synonymous for excellent cars and compared to other elite brands are considered inexpensive

it might be because toyota has a larger captial hence more R and D for their cars, and ya lexus's are boring cars but their cars are trouble free

After owning one, a GX470, I am hooked for life. I have had many cars, BMW, Cadillac, Range Rover, Mercedes, Volvo, Toyota, Acura, Saab, Chevy and Audi in my past and the best yet is the Lexus. No, it is not because it is the newest, it is because it is the most comfortable, easiest to drive and the most dependable. I have only had one minor problem, expected on a first model year car, and in the time it was in the shop they gave me an '04 RX330 to drive. I am convinced that Lexus has the luxury car market figured out. I am pretty confident that within 10 years my garage will be 100% Lexus, I have had a great experience and will not leave them.

I agree (and your story is very common among Lexus owners who had tried many previous brands). Lexus has the market figured out. For those that say they are boring, here is just one of many Lexus that is far from it:
http://www.lextreme.com/sc430tt.html

Lexus is without a doubt is the absolute best automobile for your money. From a trouble free car to the stunning dealer service. They have won worldwide industry respect and accolades galore. From the greatest car plants in the world to the best dealers in the world.
Lexus promises by 2007 to have every sedan re-vamped, a new car above the LS 430 is coming, the next IS is coming in 4 iterations, AWD, hybrids and more tech is coming and finally a TRUE AMG/M Lexus is coming. They want to sell 300,000 cars soon and nothing is in their way.

I find it very, very, very, very humerous an Acura owner calling a Lexus boring.

The fact of the matter is boring or not, the cars are the best for the money. And if you want to be as fast or FASTER than the cars mentioned (and be non-boring)

turbo, twin turbo or supercharge an IS 300/SC 300/GS 300/GS 400/SC 430/LS 430 with the apporpriate suspension mods.

Anything BUT boring. With reliability to boot.

i also find it very humorous that you spelled humorous wrong. :gaylaugh:

Not so, the tires wear out quickly and the car cannot be aligned to factory specifications. The range calls for zero camber to be available but there is not enough adjustment range to get it there.

I find them boring too but then again, that is what I like. I own one of each, and Acura and a Lexus.

Anyway, even the SC430 is boring to drive. IMO, it is devoid of driving personality and leaves you numb. It is a beautiful car and serves its intended purpose but it not a stunning or interesting drive.

lexus is known for their reliability (thanks to toyota) and customer service. but 1siclex... would u plz compare stock to stock?

ur saying a Boosted IS is as fun to drive as WRX.. EVO. S2k.. G35c blah blah... maybe it is.. but how many sc/turbo IS r outta there? 99% of them r NA... and they are boring to drive. LS, GS, or whatever, they all feel like they r boats... those cars r not made for performance.. so when ppl say lexus cars are boring... i think it s true.. they are boring.. in fact, i can sleep all day all night in a LS430 without getting sore.

i would get a lexus when i get old... it s reliable, comfortable, and quiet, nice interior... and everything else EXCEPT FOR FUN TO DRIVE.

Lexus are the most reliable bar none. But I wouldn't say they are the best for the money.

Best for the money is a Honda Accord or even a TL.

You'd have to pay substantially more to get an ES330. For substantially less, you could buy a 7 year warranty for your TL and be stress free.

Now in terms of high end RWD luxury, I'd say that Lexus is better value for the money than Mercedes.

for those not willing to completely blow the warranty and the car, the IS sucked, yes i think it is a nice looking car, but even rear wheel drive can't overcome the fact that it is underpowered...

both infiniti and acura put up better numbers and acura's cost way less...

my vote goes to infiniti, they way not have an sc equivalent but the g is a sweet coupe to start with...

Point well take as, I believe that Infiniti ranks right behind Lexus on the JD Powers Initial quality survey. Not too mention, CR shows 'well above average' for nearly all Inifiniti products for the past 5 years or so. (....not too certain why Nissan products lag so far behind Infiniti )

I love Lexus, and even though I love sporty cars and used to be anti-SUVs, I find myself borrowing my wife's RX300 whenever I get a chance cause I love being in it. As far as being the best car for the money, that's tough to say. Say you want a sporty sedan for under 35K?? Lexus got nothing unless you want to look like a ricer boy racer in an IS300, or an old fogey in an ES300. The TL wins that category I think. If money were no object, I'd be driving a GS430 no questions asked, but I don't want to spend that much on a car. So I'd agree that Lexus are practically the best car, but not necessarily the best bank for the buck, unless you only compare them to a benz or a bmw.

Outside of maybe the MR-S Spyder, which current Toyota product would an enthusiast (such as the folks here) want over the equivalent Honda Product. Is an MR-S Spyder even in the same league as the S2000. The ES/IS/GS300 have nothing on the TL Type S, let alone the new TL. (to a lesser degree, the Camry V6 has nothing on the Accord V6 when it comes to performance)

Dont get me wrong, during the mid 90s Toyota had some very exciting cars: MKIII Turbo, MKIV, Celica All Trac, MR-2 Turbo and SC400 come to mind. Back then Honda (IMO) really didnt have much in the way of excitement (exc for the high priced NSX).

Head-to-head (as of right now), I'd get a Honda product over a Toyota product any time. No brainer, IMO. Exc for the lack of AWD in the new TL and more power in the current RL, I think Honda has the market figured out.

Peace.

I gotta agree Honda/Acura has the market figured out

MDX best Suv for the money

new TL best sedan for the money/ G35 honorable mention

the Rsx is selling great

tsx is selling

and now the new RL

all Acura is missing is the coupe/convertible

LOL...I just dont think the NSX is ageless cause it doesnt really impress for the money. Granted you can get one for $40K but it will probably be little to old.

when your telling me ageless the Porsche 911 comes to mind and even old ones look hot. All you have to do is change the wheels and they look hot. IMO no but back to Lexus...I agree when you look at it model to model acura is a better car for the money and offers more performance about reliability as much

I only buy coupes and Lexus has only had 2 coupes. THe original SC coupes were great but I couldn't afford them at the time. I went with Acura Legend coupes and the CLS 6 speed. THe Acuras have a lot more room inside and were cheaper, plus I wanted a manual shift. Only the Lex SC300 had a shifter and they dropped that after a few years.
The SC430 is cool and expensive and the styling is a little off for my tastes. I thought they were gonna offer a cheaper SC330 with a 6 cylinder, but I think the new Solara was made instead. Even it has no 6 cylinder/6 speed option. Dont' loke the IS model.
Toyota doesn't make a manual shifter on any 6 or 8 cylinder coupe now?? that's what I'd want.

I just think Lexus leans MUCH more towards luxury than sport and Honda leans more towards sport than luxury. In a way, its almost hard to compare both lines with each other.

My personal irony is that my wife loves Toyota/Lexus products and I love Honda/Acura products (exc. RL). Therefore, we had to compromise on our last two auto purchases: Nissan Quest SE and Nissan Maxima SE. (Who'd have 'thunk' Nissan would be the beneficiary of a Toyota vs Honda fued?? Go figure!!)

Anyhow, I clearly admit my Honda bias.

WARNING : Long POST.

Well, having owned a huge variety of cars... I'm gonna throw my opinion in the mix here.

My current cars are:
01 CL-S (just bought)
01 IS300 (lease up in 40 days)
96 VW Jetta (winter dog!)

Recently Past Cars are:
99 BMW M Roadster
98 BMW M3
97 Z28SS with 15-hp shot NOS

CL-S : Construction not as good as my Lexus IS300. I hear more little dash rattles and whatnot in the Acura - but the chassis feels good to me and the CL-S is every bit as exiciting to drive as my IS300. The seats in the 300 are C R A P. No support, no comfort. Just a chair. CL-S cost me exactly HALF of what my IS300 did. Bought used, but the point is that a used CL-S was as fun, and as nice looking as a brand new IS.

ALSO - The stereo in the IS300 needs nothing. Highs are high, lows are low, and system is SUPERB in evry way... except for the fact I would not be happy to own an IS300 out of warranty. My CD Changer has eaten no less than 5 cds and I am on my 4th head unit. Out of warranty these are $$$$$

IS300 is severly underpowered - I only bought it cause the Lexus dealer was aggresive as hell in getting me out of my POS M Roadster (worst car I've ever owned).

I don't appreciate Lexus charging $89.95 for simple oil changes. their service is WAY over-priced. And enjoy the Lexus in the snow. My M3 was bad in snow, but my IS300 straight sucked ass.

Hell, even on dry pavement - when the traction control feels ANY slippage it cuts the IS300 power inhalf, and a friend's GS300 does the same - makes pulling out into traffic SCARY - I just disable the POS system now... too many close calls. Foot to the floor, car not moving.

CONCLUSION : (and this is off course) : Infiniti deserves my shout out for best bang for the buck right now in the new car world.

Why? Service is rated #1 by Consumer Reports, their cars cost less than their major competitors (BMW Lexus Mercedes), have longer warranties - and when you get your oil changed, the bill says $29.95.

ALSO - Infiniti doesn't make a car with a timing belt. It's a chain and it's self-tightening... no replacement needed! The serpentine belt is rigged so that if it breaks on the engine, you cans till drive the car!! WHO ELSE IS DOING THIS?? no one.

Best bang for the buck is the G35 Coupe - sexy, fun, good seats, decent stereo, led/hid lights, rear drive, low maintenance cost, good available accessories, dual firewalls, and wonderful exhaust sound from the factory - a true sports car, built on a sports car chassis - AND they kept it at only 12,000 produced units per year... so unlike the 350Z it will not lose as much value...

Yeah - I'm biased cause I work for Infiniti - but I'm also a consumer who has owned alot of nice cars for only being 26. If I was buying a new 'fun' car, the Coupe would be my choice.

Lexus has built their brand well, but the RX series didn't get changed enough from thr 300 to the 330 to compete with the FX. The IS couldn't pull a sick whore out of bed. The ES is a nice Camry. And the SC looks excatly like the new Solara... which is WRONG. Lexus will continue to do well - they are over-charging for under-developed cars and SUVs.

Did anyone here know that the new RX is built on a minivan chassis - how's that for performance?? And when not in AWD, it's FWD?? FX is AWD and RWD - and built on the G35 Coupe chassis with the driveline of a Skyline GT-R. Which sounds more exciting to you?

Sorry about the book... :P

PS - The most fun I've ever had in a car was in my 98 BMW M3, simply the most amazing handling I've ever experienced - right from the factory. I did things in that car I can't even dream of my IS300 doing...

Therefore, we had to compromise on our last two auto purchases: Nissan Quest SE and Nissan Maxima SE. (Who'd have 'thunk' Nissan would be the beneficiary of a Toyota vs Honda fued?? Go figure!!)

Anyhow, I clearly admit my Honda bias.
yea but Toyota/Lexus you know were most of their money is going to with their R & D...cause Toyota has falling off the map completely

Honda/Acura is both equal contenders with Honda raising the par with their new Accord and S2000

Nissan/Infiniti are great cars but Nissan is known to switch their models from run to another...it wouldnt surprise me that Nissan would make a totally differenct Z or G soon and never mind with the Maxima that thing has evolved it just transformed to something totally different IMO

My wife owns a gs300 and I on occasions drive her car when I need more space. Even though the car seems boring at times, I still feel it does everything very well. You just can't beat Lexus on their customer service and luxury feel. I love having my coupe but if I had a choice between the 2 cars I would have to give up my cl. I guess b/c I’m on my 2nd transmission. I really don't think Acura need to step up in reliability, they need to stop fucking around and make a V8 and awd or rwd car sedan/coupe. Also imo the new sc430 is terrible. It's a couch potato. Just yummy in the inside. I still love the sc400.

Quick Reply: Is Lexus the best car for the money ???
