Lease questions...

Well I was looking into a new car earlier this year when I got some rather unexpected baby news from the wife. Understandably any thoughts of a new car went out the window for a while. Now however I am starting to think about it again and the lease deals BMW are offering right now have my interest piqued. With a 59% residual, a MF of only .00225, and a holiday credit of $2500 I figure I can get a 2010 335i M-Sport with nav for around $600/month (which is considerably less than the G is costing me right now).

My question is I want to order one now and still get the holiday cash (ends Jan 4) but I also want to trade my car in. How can I work the deal for the new car? Do I give them my car now and wait until the new one comes in or do I give them the car at the time of pickup? Also I want to do the Performance Center delivery so how does that work? Do I go to the dealer a few days before my delivery date and finalize the deal or what?

Any lease-ers out there that can give me some insight? I appreciate it!

Don't mean to be a jerk or nothing, but i'd keep my G! don't know why your not happy with it. Its an '08, so why dump it so soon? If you must get rid of it, i'd personally sell it privately first, to avoid being upside down on my loan, since you are still making payments on it. Not saying the 335i isn't awesome, just saying that i really won't even be looking that way if I was in an '08 G37. Drive a friends 335I extensively, then come back here, and tell us what the main differences are between it and your G, besides increased lower rpm torque, and a different interior.

I'm not unhappy with my G at all. I just want a lower payment and when I thought about it I realized I could get a new 2010 335i for around the same monthly payment as refinancing my G (with 35k miles on it now). To me if the choice is between a brand new car and one that has 35k miles for the same price, I'm picking the new one. Besides I I've been feeling like a German car for some time now....

How many miles a year do you drive? I'd be concerned that residual is for a very low mileage per year (like 10,000).

More power to you. Congrats on the kiddo. Its just that your monthly payments might be lower, but you'll increase your total number of payments With a kid, I'd personally work on just reducing personal debt.

Residual of 59% is for 36 month/15k miles per year. I usually drive around 12-15k a year (though I went a little crazy when I first got the G and put 20k on it in the first 10 months!).

I think I have come to terms with the fact that I will always have a car payment. Considering how many cars I've had and how quickly I turn them over I wish I had started leasing long ago. My income is secure enough that I am not worried by a $600+ payment per month...

Dang you worse than me. Even i wouldnt do this knowing a kid is on the way.

But since i know people dont listen, i will just answer what you asked.

When you work the deal out, you can let the dealer know that you will be trading in the car once the new one arrives. They will factor that in with your trade in value.

Im not 100% sure but you once they schedule you for the pickup date for the Performance center, you go in few days before your date and finish the paper work for it. At least thats how it was for Euro Delivery.

That residual is decent but the money factor blows btw. Also in March the coupe is getting a facelift. Bet deals for leftover 2010 models will be huge at that time.

Make sure you think this through. Dont make a thread a year from now asking us how to get out of a lease since you need a car with more room for a babyseat.

LOL!!! I still have my Ford for family hauling (it has the rear bench so she can have up to 7 more before I'll need more room).

when you go to trade in your G,
how much will you still owe on it?
how much will the dealer probably give you on trade?
are you gonna have negative equity going into your lease? if so, i don't see how it's a very good idea

FYI, The MF of .00225 is really a 5.40% interest rate.

firstly, lets not dance around the obvious - i think you are feeding yourself **** that upgrading to a 335 w/ all the goodies is for the sake of the family.

do you really NEED a car newer than an 08? do you need a packaged out 335? you could easily lease a 3 series for about $500 with NOTHING down. im going to go on a limb and say that the 600 a mo pmt you described is really >$700 a mo. expense if you were to roll in the down payment.

why not a 328 w nav? or at least a lesser optioned 335? remember, this is a sacrifice decision. and its a temporary. youre not going to be buried with the thing. after the child is born, you may feel a bit selfish every time you get in an out of that M-packaged 335.

You might have a slightly lower payment, but once you're through with the G payments, you will own the G. How much will it be worth when it's paid off? $10k? $15k? Whatever the amount, it's money in your pocket you will never have after the lease is up on the BMW. You will have, well, nothing to show for your investment. The payment would have to be a LOT less for that to be worth it to me. Like, less than half at least. And if your G is over $1,000 a month then you have more serious problems
