Lancer Evo VII
Lancer Evo VII
Wow, under 30k? Shit, if Mitsu or Subaru add some luxary items and there isn't AWD 6mt in the redesigned CLS i'll switch over.

What's special about it?
Finally giving an answer to the monumental question: "Will Mitsubishi be bringing the Evo VII to the states?" Mitsubishi announced that yes, this World Rally Championship-inspired Lancer will make it stateside. That's the good news; the bad news is that it won't happen until January of 2003.
The Evo's 2.0-liter turbocharged and intercooled inline four is expected to put out "over 250 horsepower," according to Mitsubishi representatives at the show. A five-speed manual gearbox and all-wheel drive will send the power to the 235/45R17 Yokohamas. Brembo disc brakes, sporting four-piston calipers and 14-inch rotors up front and two-piston calipers and 12-inch rotors out back, as well as antilock technology, should be up to the formidable task of arresting all that kinetic energy.
After the important question of "when can we have it?" comes "how much will it cost?" Under $30,000 is what was quoted to the group of salivating journalists, which would make the Evo VII around $5,000 or so more than a Subaru Impreza WRX but nearly $10,000 less than the Audi S4.

But, if subarus would wise up and send over the Legacy B4 RSK, and really take out the S4. Though americans are prob too image obsessed to choose it over the audi..
if you add in the price for the 260 hp, brembos, and whatever else the Evo pricing is pretty cheap. But the dealer price gouging is what's gonna hurt it if we don't get a significant shipment.

So, are we fairly certain there will be less Evo VIIs imported than WRXs? If its going to be a limited car, I would jump on a list now......it wasn't necessary to do that for a WRX.

And yes, its probably a good idea to start contacting dealers about getting on a waiting list if you want an Evo.

The Evo VII has better brakes, is faster, more advanced AWD system which results in better handling and cornering ability.
If you want to compare engines, STi has some from of VVT (dunno if its cam changing or phasing) and is a boxer engine (better weight distrbution etc). Evo engine makes more torque and according to JDM dynos more horsepower also.
Then we come down to the looks department. Evo fans say the STi is ugly, STi fans say the Evo is ugly. I think the STi looks better than the Evo VI but I prefer the styling of the Evo VII over the STi.
The biggest advantadge the Evo has (at least in Japan and England) is that it is much cheaper than the STi.
Here's a great comparo between the two:

Thats a good article, with 280hp..they clocked the Evo at 4.4sec to 60
, getting up to that hp # shouldn't be too difficult to achieve with our detuned Evo.
I had a 97 Legacy 2.5GT and a 99 2.5RS, I like Subarus.....but I think I would get the Evo over the STi- I'm willing to deal with the more ho-hum interior and 5spd.

Evo or STi hell give me both. I heard that subaru will be softening the look of the WRX because of the complaints it has gotten.
