The Lamborghini Huracan Thought

Have you ever had a car that you wanted to like, but couldn't for whatever reason? I have. The Corvette, the new S5, the Miura (don't flame me). Well, the Huracan has just the opposite effect on me. I wanted to not like this car. However, the more I see it in pictures and videos I cannot deny that it is an amazing vehicle. I had to ask myself, "why do I not want to like the Huracan?" The answers are o-plenty.
  • It's not a "real" Lamborghini - no V12
  • It's not a "real" Lamborghini - no scissor doors
  • It's a re-engineered R8. Not that that's a bad thing. It's just not a "real" Lamborghini (read: not exclusive).
  • Its predecessor is the Gallardo, which is the most understated Lamborghini in recent history (read: not a "real" Lamborghini). Understated and Lamborghini in the same sentence is a paradox in itself.
  • Its an entry-level Lamborghini. Two more words that shouldn't be in the same sentence
Despite all of that the Huracan is the thing of posters. Its design screams, "I'm a Lamborghini!". Of course, it sounds the part as well. It also comes in loud colors. Because: Lamborghini. In short, the Huracan is what the Gallardo should have been. Okay, enough of that. Thoughts?

I love the Huracan as well. Scissor doors and the only thing I wish it had. That omission alone causes my Lamborghini fanboy friend to dismiss it.

The Aventador is the prototypical Lambo but it's way too heavy and unwieldy.

Have you driven one? If not, do so, and then come back.

That is my thought

The R8 argument is actually reversed; whilst Lamborghini relied on Audi to boost the reliability & capabilities of their cars, the Huracan (like the Gallardo) was the precursor platform that the R8 would stem from. If anything, the R8 is a "re-engineered" Lamborghini because VAG originally did not want the R8 surpassing the more expensive Italian.

Entry-level Lamborghinis existed throughout the 70's & 80's. Where as a LP400 Countach was priced around $50,000 in 1976, the Urracos were about half that alongside the Silhouette (just under $30,000 in '76). When the Jalpa came about in the early 80's at around $60,000, the Countach was transitioning into the LP500S & beginning to surpass 6-figures. At the end of the Jalpa's production in '88, the 25th Anniversary Countach was then carrying a $150,000 price tag.

^ Well said.
For me, Lamborghini just doesn't give the 'fizz' that some others would. Between the Italians, I'd likely go Ferrari, but would more likely end up in a McLaren if I were in the market.

I've always wanted to like the newer Audis (A4, A5, A6, etc..) because I love how they look and their interiors are gorgeous, but they feel so numb and dead to me to drive.. like no steering feel at all.

LaFerrari is a car I didn't like in photos at all, but I was able to see one 1 on 1, sit inside etc.. Car looks so much better in person.

0 fucks given, still want. If I won the lotto the first car I'd buy/order is a neon green Aventador because it screams fuck you in the loudest way possible.

Then I'd order a brown E63 AMG-S wagon for a daily.

The Huracan took a while to grow on me. It has some weird angles and looks best from certain angles. I still am not 100% on it. But having driven one I can assure you it will leave a smile on your face.

I am not a big fan of the Gallardo. I don't like its styling too much. The later special editions were better with their treatments, though. Drove a Super Trofeo and also left with a smile on my face.

These things being said, I would never buy one lol. I'd rather have a 650S, or MP4-12C, or 458, or even R8 V10.

I'd take the huracan over any comparable McLaren. Not sure how the Lamborghini is, but McLaren's are notorious for being problem riddled. I don't love McLaren styling either. It's nice, but much too curvy for me.

I like the McLarens, but they're becoming very...BMW-ish. The models aren't really creating much in the way of being unique, esp. in the interior. I think the 570S is the one that finally breaks the styling mold McLaren is obsessed with.

Taco, why do you care what other people think? Anyone who thinks you're a douche because you drive a Lamborghini doesn't know the story behind the brand. They don't care about the history and tradition of Ferruccio Lamborghini and his battle with Enzo Ferrari.

The scissor doors on the Countach were game changing......revolutionary in their time. I love the scissor doors because they are so unique. Consequently, I dig the butterfly doors of McLaren too. Are McLarens douchey because of their butterfly doors? I don't think so.....

I could give a rats-ass about anyone who thinks I drive that kind of car to be an attention whore. I get that from time to time with my Corvette. You hear it all....attention whore, small dick, compensating for something else. When I tell them that I work 3 jobs, sometimes 7 days a week and have paid for my daughter's college education, have no debt and own my house free and clear-it pretty much shuts them up. Plus, I also give them my wife's phone number, just in case they have any bedroom questions.

I would drive the Huracan or the Aventador IN A HEARTBEAT. The white Countach was the poster on my wall when I was a teenager. Anyone who cares about what other people think about the car they drive has MUCH bigger and deeper problems.

I'll finish this by telling you what Frank Sinatra said about Lamborghini. You DO know who Frank Sinatra is, right??????

Mr. Sinatra said, "If you want to be someone, you drive a Ferrari. If you ARE someone, you drive Lamborghini."

Wow, I wasn't even the least bit serious with that comment, and hence the "". Nor do I think Sam is a douche whatsoever.

I'll just leave this here for you, Steven:

And for the record, I really like the Huracan. I think the Aventador is a simply bad ass car, but honestly, I'm more of a handling/lightweight kind of guy. If money was no object, I'd still likely choose the Huracan over the Aventador. Not that the Aventador can't handle (because we all know it can), but because I'd prefer the feel of a lighter car.

Then again, if money was no object, I'd have two of each in my underground car garage.

Oh, and for the doors, to each their own. If I'm already driving a 600hp, loud as hell, 250k supercar, I don't need to add vertical doors to the mix to get me even more attention.

I totally forgot that for a good while, the Aventador Roadster was actually my favorite Lambo... and possibly even favorite new car. Flavor of the month, I guess.

You have to admit, vertical doors are for nothing more than attention. They literally serve no purpose.

But on a menacing car, they do add that additional level of intensity. I'm just not a big fan of them, save for, the late '50s Mercedes 300SL, or its modern reincarnation. But those doors- they were in a league of their own.

I saw a Huracan near my house...took off after him trying to get a video but he was too fast and drove the car the way it should be driven.
What a gorgeous ride.
I guess if I had tons of cash and was in the market, I'd be a little more critical in comparison to other cars I could buy, but I'd take a Lambo in a heartbeat...always been my brand.

The 570S would be my choice. After stopping by the new McLaren store in N Houston & hearing one lave on a test drive

Also, Taco for the win. 50s Gullwing =

I think it looks great. But I do think I would take a McLaren, Ferrari or P-car first. It depends though - I would need to drive them all, because right now I pretty much have no idea.

Taco, I admit nothing.....are you going to tell BMW that they i8 doors as simply for show? Are you going to knock McLaren too? Every one of their new cars has butterfly doors. Are you going to tell Ferrari their LaFerrari doors are too "showy"????? Plus, are your really saying the Huracan and Avendator are not menacing?????? Really??????? My personal feeling is Lamborghini is much more menacing than any Ferrari, Porsche or McLaren on the street.

You're overthinking it. The Lamborghini scissor doors are legendary. Quit trying to ruin it.

He's extremely opinionated!
But I don't disagree, Steven!
That's awesome...and one of the reasons I fell in love with the brand early on...
aside from the very in your face aggressive design.
Diablo was my Eleanor.

^^^^ See, that's why I love this young man.

Again, the Countach was the poster on my wall as a teenager. The wedge design, the aggressive look. Hell, the scissor doors are just icing on the cake.....

Exactly...
honestly, for the times...the countach in the 80's...more intense than the Testa Rossa...and then the diablo were the PERFECT progression of the design IMO.
Back in the day, my buddies liked the Porsches...I was like, are you kidding me...it's a shoe horn! But alas, we loved what our Dad's loved and the
Countach was my Dad's Eleanor.

Somewhere along the way I will say it felt like they were forcing new models to keep up with the Jones' and diluted the brand a bit. It felt sad to have to look
at a headlight shape to discern the gallardo from the murcielago...
I feel like the Diablo should have jumped straight to the Aventador.
and then whatever comes next...be it Huracan or not...

But really...the new generation Lambo ICON is the Aventador in my humble opinion.

and yes, I love porsches now...and think Ferrari is COOL and wow...but I never drop my jaw on the ground, then pick it up and have it melt back through my arms
like I do when I see a proper Lambo.

Cars and Coffee last year had a Diablo...
my heart felt content even being able to be in the same space as that car. What a special special thing...mostly tied in sentimental value...but fuck it...we all have that feeling for SOMETHING.
The ONLY one they have that I thought was overdone was the Veneno...but even then, I wouldn't kick it out of bed for crumbs.
