The lady got a new toy...

A new you could say. lol

But seriously, she just got an 01 Mercedes SLK 230 and there are sooooo many things I need to replace/fix it's ridiculous. The check engine light is on, I have no clue where the OBD II reader port is, the rotors are warped and pads are shot, and the thing that annoys me the most is that the drivers' side sun visor WILL NOT STAY UP. I don't know how she could possibly see while driving but god damn it's right in my eye level.

So the question I'm going to ask is do you guys know any sites like oemacuraparts.com but for Mercs? Can't seem to find any that has small interior parts like that.

lol what would be wrong w/ having a wife at 21? I've been w/ her for 5 years already lol.

Back to the topic tho - Of course I would have LOVED her to stay in the family and go w/ an Acura/Honda. They are much more reliable cars (save a few transmissions ) and after driving this supposed "Best or Nothing", I'd hope newer Mercs are better than this lol.

I'm not saying it's a bad car or anything, if I had to choose between this and say...a nissan? or a domestic? Merc all the way. Just not over my lovely CL lol. It has spoiled me.

All I really want to do to it is bring it up to the level that my car is in right now.

P.S. - She got it from a family friend for 12K...not a bad deal at all I think. They obviously didn't take care of it like we do our cars. It just needs a little TLC.

The engine and everything else is in good condition. It seems to me like they didn't keep up w/ the maintenance on things that people who aren't "enthusiasts" like us know about. Rotors? CEL codes? With a higher end car like that, if you don't have the money to take it to the dealership you are fucked if you don't know how to work on cars.

I know a couple people that have been riding on tires so bald they look like slicks it's crazy how some people are clueless when it comes to cars.

Lol and idk how the thread got hijacked and marriage came up, but lol i never said anything about me getting married at 21, BUT like I said, 5 years is a long time for people so young, at it obviously shows a maturity level higher than people my age. lol

Try autohausaz.com for parts. I've found a few good deals on BMW and VW parts there for my sisters' cars. Oh and you don't have to be an "enthusiast" to keep up on maintenance of a car. You just have to be logical. The CEL would have been a major red flag and I wouldn't have handed over 12 cents until they got it checked for serious problems first! Never, and I mean NEVER do business with family/friends!!! You're just looking for trouble.

Lol this is why I'm frustrated. Everyone knows how much I love cars but I wasn't even consulted on the decision. Didn't even get to look at it before it was bought lol, let alone see all the problems with it.

There are many Nissans and even domestics that are way more reliable and better built. But alas, your lovely CL spoils you...hate to you my CL was the one car I owned that I was least fond of...and it was the newest.

Ok first of all dude what is your problem I'm just trying to have a conversation and maybe, you know...learn something! Ever think of that???

Second of all, you tell me I'm being ignorant yet you think that an SLK is an "entry-level" car. It stickered for $41K back in 01! That's around the same price as the Acura FLAGSHIP - the RL - TODAY!

And have you actually been in and DROVE an american car lately? Cheap plastic pieces of shit everywhere and unnecessary, underpowered, gas-guzzling V8's thrown in there with every disregard for quality and instead they opt for the cheapest cost solution. NO THANK YOU. $40k for a Challenger with practically the same interior as an $18k Avenger.

And I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your CL as much as every other owner and I do. Plus you had a '99 by what it says in your sig, and those WERE p.o.s. So don't judge what I drive based on an experience you had driving a previous generation of it. Why don't you jump into a late-90's model BMW and then a newer gen. and tell me which one you like better.

There was no reason to man. My gf got a new car without me seeing it, and all i'm trying to do is post here trying to get a little information on parts. I've tried the benz forums but they aren't as popular as the 'zine.

As I said, ignorant.

Your girl bought a bottom of the line entry level merc. i dont care what the original cost was. Justify it any way you'd like.

Yeah, I've driven a lot of current American cars. And I like a lot of them, too. A lot of them are making strides to up their game. GM has made the biggest strides to compete and its been showing. And no, with the exception of Cadillac and maybe Lincoln, you arent going to see the same quality materials that would in a luxury car because they arent luxury marquees. But there isnt anything in the interior of your CL that is super special either. And depending one what models your trying to compare it with, it matches up in the quality dept.

Despite what you might think about the Challenger, its a brilliant vehicle. And have you been inside one yet? I have. Many people may not like the actual design of the car's interior, but the quality of the materials are fine. No more or less plasticy than your CL.

I wouldnt call American V8s underpowered..again ignorant...gas guzzling? Tell me son, whats the mpg of a Bimmer 550? a S550? CL550? LS460? GS450? M3 (e92)? C63? SL55? S55? Lets compare that to a Vette...the specs on a new Camaro, the challenger R/T, GTO, G8 GT.

1st gen CLs weren't POS. But its not as rock solid reliable as a japanese built vehicle either be it from Honda, Nissan, or Toyota.

I owned an mid 80's bmw. I've driven several generations since. Yes, the new ones are great, but I'd also take my old car back in a heart beat.

You came on here to learn? start reading, then make you baseless comments.

You can keep your SLK, while youre on the side of the road trying to figure out why the CEL came on again me and my slow ass American V8 Challenger with its shitty interior will be roaring by you in style. But its cool, because youll have all that "luxury" in your entry level german roadster to keep you comfy while you wait for a tow.

Try some of the Mercedes forums (mbworld.com or benzworld.org, I personally prefer mbworld). They may be able to hook you up with some info regarding where to buy parts or where to go locally to check it out.

Best bet would likely be to talk some sense into your woman and get rid of the car and buy something else. It's just going to continue to be a big money pit. I have nothing against Mercedes... in fact, I'm considering one myself... but I'd never buy one out of warranty.

GL with the SLK....I've personally never been a fan of those cars, just the sound of the engine running normal scares the crap out of me. I would check ebay before anything else. If that doesn't work, try to find a local shop that works on these cars; they can usually find the parts much cheaper and add a small mark-up..still might come out ahead.
