K&N Intake kits...

Does anybody have one on any car and can comment on the quality? I'm looking to get one for my Grand Prix... Make that Supercharger whine like it should...

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/n9qqHgHI9Oo&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/n9qqHgHI9Oo&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

I know theres always better ways to spend my money but I'm just asking for opinions on the K&N kit...

Thanks

K&N does make some of the best filters on the market but I can't speak for their actual kits.

Doesn't RK Sport make parts for your car?

This is just my thoughts on K and N:
I personally hate them. My buddy had them on his LS1 Camero. it sucked some dirt/containation into the intake. no severe enough to tear down the motor. but i was with Clint when he tore down his LS1 to see it. he sprayed the filter about 2 times a year with that spray shit. I wouldn't put one on my ride.
I looked up Cold air intakes for a Pontiac Grand Prix and came up with a couple options other than K and N.
this is Thrasher Engineered Performance

and Stripper Motorsports sells SLP CAI

Thanks for the info

I'm not sure but I don't think the K&N cone filters need to be oiled, do they?

Also, another reason why I specifically looked at K&Ns is because the ECU is in the airbox of my car. The K&N intake has a nice secure mounting point that was designed like OEM. I'm just not sure if these other kits have an adequate mounting spot for the computer...

The price is better, but I'm willing to pay more for a better product.

K&N Filters need to be oiled.

They sell their own clearning kits:

Same here, I had kits as well. If you have a MAS just don't over oil the filter.

All of our cars have one. No problems at all. People have problems when they oil them too much. A previous post mentioned that a friend used to oil his twice a year. That's too much. They don't need to be oiled until you wash them.

Well, what I've decided to do is use my K&N hardware/heat shield and I'm going to pick up an Amsoil cone filter instead of using the K&N...

I've heard that you want to keep as much fine particulate out of the supercharger as possible. I don't know the specifics but I was told that the K&N would make it perform better but sacrifice filteration for air flow. I was encouraged to use an Amsoil dry filter for an equal amount of air flow and filteration.

I know I'd probably be fine with the K&N but I'm going to try out the Amsoil filter anyways...

Got her all in tonight (w/ the Amsoil filter) and getting into boost is an intoxicating mix of growling and whining... The car jumps to life after you put your foot into the gas...

I'm going to see if there really are any MPG or HP improvements. Before we installed it we had it hooked up to a laptop that plugged in to the ECU port and tested 197 WHP. Once I have the software in my hands again I will run it and see if there really are any HP improvements.

Before the K&N I was averaging 10.5L/ 100KM... It claims its guaranteed to increase gas mileage...

Overall, I'm very happy with the kit. Everything is very solid in the engine bay and installation was as easy as following the instructions.

Don't let your MPG decieve you, especially if it is lower than you were expecting.. Many many people experience a drop in MPG because the extra power makes their foot a little heavier.

this is true.....because there is one on my car.....between the exhaust being low and a deep growl down low till 3500rpm, then the intake takes over.....

it' an intoxicating sound,i know with mmine depending on gear and how much throttle you put in at 4000rpm it's sounds mean.

with the K&N filter all you have to do is keep it clean and oiled, not over oiled. it shoudl probably be clean every few months depending on how much you drive.

edit: just noticed you went with amsoil...

Here is an interesting read on filters. http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/

Compares 4 different types of commonly purchased CAI filters. Looks like K&N placed second next to Apex'i when it comes to filtration.

Luckily, the Amsoil filter is a dry mesh filter as well

Today I averaged 12.8L/100KM's... I think I know why though

Yesterday night I checked and was averaging 9.7L/ 100km. That was while driving in downtown traffic too...

I'd say it's working
