Man that sucks... although I can't decide whats worse... keying or breaking in.

I'm gonna go with keying because theres malicious intent. Breaking in is just some punk jacking yo shit!

So I get a knock on my door last night around 9:30PM and it's the same cop that came out on Saturday to take the report. He asked me what my specialized plate meant, 13X13? I told him that 1, 6 & 9 are my lucky numbers. He told me that whether related or not to the incident, 13 or X13 is code for the Mexican Maffia. Holly sh*t! He said if a gang member happened to walk by and was in a rival gang it would make sense he'd do something to my car. I've never heard the whole 13 or X13 thing before so I was in total shock.

So now I'm considering changing my plate back to a normal plate, although the first time my car got keyed was prior to the 13X13 plate, so I doubt it's connected. Either way though just driving around now all I can think about is if someone from a rival gang see's my plate and can't see me (6'3" and white) because of my tint and thinks I'm actually associated with the Mexican Maffia and tries to harm me. Just not a thing I want to take a chance on, especially living where I do in Arizona with gang members all around the area.

The cool part about this ordeal is now I know at least the cop has been patroling my parking lot and remembers my name, my car and where I park. I had to park in an uncovered spot last night because one of my neighbors friends parked in my spot. The cop said I noticed your car was in a different spot and wanted to find out what was up. Pretty nice knowing he is looking out for me. At least I have that going for me lol.

There are those who accidently rub up against your car with a jacket with a zipper / buttons, etc. I don't think there should be a good reason why anyone should be *that* close to make contact to physically leave an impression on a car.

I think most of us park far away, equal space between the lines, and out of harm's way. Yet harm always finds us.

I'm sorry to see this happened to you twice. And it isn't lightning striking twice. Looks like someone had to make themselves feel better by defacing your property. Guess that's one reason why it's a great idea to have the 'right to bear arms' in your Constitution. (The other 99% of the time, however, -- most people shouldn't have access to guns...)

[edit] If people think that's a mafia sign ... then I would change it. No point in getting confronted for some unexpected reason.

interesting, at least that can give you some sort of reasoning behind it. Nothing worse than someone having a grudge against you and not knowing why. Of the several keyings that I've seen happen, 2 were ex girlfriends(who seem to have no respect for cars) some cliche issues, with groups of people, and then there's just plain jealousy.

keying someones car is just about the lowest thing you can do, so aside from ex's, either it's gang related or someone just doesnt like you because of your car or some stupid shi$ like that.

edit;

I dont buy this really, I've had some pretty bad scratches from stuff like that and they all buff out, it takes a bit of pressure to get through the clear coat. My CL was keyed when the previous owner had it, you can just tell when it's a key.

Agreed.
I worked at a detail shop in high school and usually zipper scratches and little things like that came out with a good buff....you have to intentionally break through the clear coat.

Hey, just curious about how you got the scratch fixed. Did you go with the mobile dent repair guys or take it to a body shop?

I've never thought about getting a gun until I discovered I had a crazy ex-con living on the other side of my unit. I still probably won't get one but it did cross my mind. I'd much rather ignore someone starting with me than get all fired up and do something stupid. I'm not ashamed to run instead of defend if that's what it comes down to, although a part of me really wants to bash his face in if it was indeed him. Either way the plate is history and I'm going on the MVD website right now to change it.

Thanks man. I'm really trying to look past it and use it as motivation to get a house with a garage sooner than later.

I totally agree, it definitely wasn't a zipper or unintentional. Main reason I say that is because it's not a straight line, it goes up and down, so if it was a zipper or a rivet it probably would've been a straight line and more of a rubbed on scratch. This scratch has a deep cut-in edge on it.

I assume you mean the first time it got keyed. I went with the mobile service. I'm still not 100% satisfied with their respray of my door so I'm going to have them come back out to make it right for the fifth and (hopefully) final time. The first time they didn't get the tint on the red exact so the color was slightly off but I didn't feel like making a big deal out of it. They came out a second time to buff the door out and after a month of being pissed off they didn't get the color right, they came out a third time to respray the door (the owner came and totally agreed the color was off). The forth time they came out was to rebuff the door, which they did a terible job of so now the texture of the paint is still too rough and isn't buffed enough so you can tell the door was resprayed and isn't nearly as shiny as the rest of the car. So tomorrow I'm going to call the owner and set up a time for them to come back out and buff the door out to match the rest of the car. Thankfully I got a lifetime warranty and 100% satisfaction guarantee in writing from him so he can't refuse to come. I highly suggest if anyone does the mobile service they do the same.
