Is it just where I live or something?

So I just traded in my 03 CL-S auto to get my 03 Accord 6mt. The car was flawless, shiny red paint, no noticeable scratches or chips. Perfect. So I wake up yesterday morning excited to drive my new baby into work only to be greeted with a three foot long scratch on my drivers door. At first I thought maybe it was just a water streak or something, but as I got closer and rubbed my finger on and felt it I realized someone keyed my f*ing car. Two days with the car and already a major blow to keeping it pristine.

This isn't the first time I've encountered my perfect body work getting f*ed up... here in Phoenix. With in 4 months of owning the CL-S I witnessed an a-hole backing into my front bumper with his Mits Montero. Thankfully I was there to see it and had his insurance pay for it, but still, messed up because I could have not been there to see it.

Then about a month ago I come out of a local restaurant to find someone had once again backed into my front bumper and left two half a dollar sized chunks out of the paint and stress cracks. This time I was not there to see it happen so I was SOL.

So I'm trying to figure out is this a Phoenix thing? I never encountered things like this when I lived in Connecticut. I mean, yeah, the occasional door ding, which I know is gonna happen, but major dents and scratches like this, never. Why is the world so cruel in that those of us who try their hardest to keep our cars clean and looking flawless get the attention of those who don't give a flying f* and are either careless or spiteful.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. I just don't get it. I don't have any enemies, so I'm thinking it was a kid or someone just seeing a shiny newer car and decided I'm going to f* it up. Ugh, so, this afternoon I'm taking it to a local collision center to see if there's a shot to just buff it out, and if not, how much to have it touched up or god forbid the whole door repainted.

You live close to a country where many people come from illegally and do not obtain proper licensing or training to operate motor vehicles.

I'm surprised there aren't 50 car accidents out there on a regular basis

That has nothing to do with it! You and I live in the DC/Baltimore area where there are 8 million ass hats dirving around that don't give a crap about you or your car. Phoenix is just a big city where there are lots of people driving vehicles. The more drivers, the more accidents.

I live in Los Angeles and over the last 8 years I have had approx 10 family members move to Phoenix/Scottdale/Tuscon areas and many of them have told me that the drivers there are worse than in L.A. and that to me is sad especially since there isn't nearly as much traffic in those areas. Sorry to hear someone scratched your car its probably some jealous hater who saw that you got a nice shiny car they wish they had.

Agreed. Poor drivers aren't defined by demographics or ethnicity. Idiot drivers are everywhere.

SuperTrooper: Sorry to hear of your car and hope you can get it repaired without too much cost.

Had my car backed in by a pretty hot milf in an altima with maybe 15% tents at 10pm. she backed in the corner of my rear bumper as I happend to be sitting in the car she tried to drive away like nothing happend I ran out threw my flip flop at her she got out yelling screaming at me like i did something wrong so i got all her info license, insurance, signed paper by her that she hit my car and said she will contact her insurance...

to my surprize her id was fake her insurance was fake her license plates where from a some pos geo metro i got stuck with a messed up bumper.

next day my car got keyed . and i only owned the car my first month it was perfect not a scratch or dent..

Conclusion asshats everywhere hope karma catches up to her.

sucks what happend to you.....hope it can be buffed out or fixed for not to much.

Thanks for the support guys. I figure it's just a random act of destructive behavior by someone that can happen anywhere. I guess I'm just experiencing it all here in the past year. Hey, at least I'm a poet and I didn't even know it.

Vetalik: Wow, sorry for your bad luck, too. That's even crazier to have an accident like that and then someone keys your car. Ugh.

Well, I took the Accord to a local shop and they quoted me $508.00 to repaint the entire door. I guess I'm going to have it done. The shop is spotless and beautiful, lots of nice cars sitting around, so I guess I feel confident they'll do a knock out job. The guy there said they don't just tape things off, they remove the trim, mirror, etc and can match the red paint exactly.

So... at the very least I'll get this done ASAP and move on so I can get out of this funk I've been in for the past two days.

I don't know if its just me but that sounds like a high estimate but I could be wrong.

I brought the car to other body shops and no joke I had estimates from $318 all the way to $2000!!! The one that was lower was a local older shop with $299 paint specials and the higher quote was from a shop that does all the body work for a Benz dealership. I made an appointment with the shop that quoted me at $508 but I also found a mobile scratch service that is supposed to call me on Monday and take a look. I personally think the mobile service can probably fill the scratch in and buff it out, so if they aren't too expensive, I'll probably go with them. The rest of the door panel is fine so I would like to avoid painting the whole thing if possible. Some part of me is wondering if getting San Marino Red was a mistake, seeing as how expensive and hard to match red is. Oh well, I just want to get it done and over with. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Oh, and an interesting thing, the last body shop said it appears someone tried breaking into the car because the black tap that goes over the window trim is slightly distorted at the top of the door. Turns out my buddy had someone try to break into his SRT-4 about a month ago, so the body shop guy suspects the person couldn't get in or got scared off and scratched the door with a screwdriver or what ever it was he was trying to pry the door open with. (I was at my buddies apartment the night before I noticed the scratch in the morning, so I suspect it happened there and not in my parking lot)

i think its hopeless to have a nice car in an apartment complex.

we had a brand new accord and someone scraped the bumper.
no note or anything.

people of our generation are rotten, that's all it is.

ROFL and I have dents and dings all the time. And I've had my car broken into by illegals from Guatemala and been hit by a guy with no insurance as well.

DC is no better or worse that LA, or Phoenix, or Dallas, or whatever. Actually it IS worse because we have diplomats too and those idiots couldn't drive a mile in West Texas without hitting something.

I'm just saying, had he lived in Clovis, NM perhaps he wouldn't have the same trouble.

I feel your pain. It seems like i get new dents and dings every month! Maybe I should move to Montana or Wyoming where there aren't so many people.

Wow, so sorry to hear that especially after you just bought that car! I remember posting in the other thread.

It really is impossible to keep a car pristine in an apartment complex like that. Everytime I end up crashing at a friends apartment I have a new ding or scratch. I'm so thankful I get to park in a garage.

Also, about 3 months after I bought my TL-S someone backed up into the bumper. I was unthrilled to say the least.

Hope you get it taken care of for cheap.

Yeah, I pretty much told my friend that I'm not going to park my car in his apartment parking lot anymore. I live in a condo and have assigned covered parking, so I've never had a problem at my place. He's cool with it, and of course felt sh*tty when I told him what happened. I'm not expecting the car to stay perfect, and in fact iit wasn't totally perfect before the scratch, but the tiny dings in it weren't noticeable nor were they intentional like this scratch is. The mobile scratch repair service is coming out in an hour to look at the car and give me an estimate. This is much more the route I'd like to go than have the entire door panel repainted and lose my car for two days plus, provided they can fix it to the point I won't notice it every time I get into my car.

let us know how it turns out sometimes they can do miracles and if your a smooth talker you can convince the guy to do a cash job. He'll pocket the money and you save at least 100 bucks

Never had my car keyed, but I keyed my old car once while shutting the door with the same hand I had my keys in.

One year and one month later I wake up to this on this time my passenger side this time.

I guess it's a clear sign it's time for us to start looking for a house with a garage and get the f*ck out of dodge before I blow my lid. I will never again try to keep my car looking good living in a place where covered parking is my only option. I so wish I had evidence of the f*cker that did this because I have my suspicions and god forbid I catch him around my car I'll be keying his face. I'm so f'n pissed right now.

Would you happen to have a view down to where the car is parked? If so, you could set up a camera and find out who the SOB is.

^ Nope, don't have a direct view of the car, it's perpendicular to my front door. I don't even know if I set up a camera in my car if I'd be able to make out who it is since it was most likely at night when it happened and there's not a lot of light in the parking lot, plus it's under covered parking so even less light.

I actually called the police this time and a cop is out there right now making out a report. Super nice guy and even told me he used to have a riced out Civic, lol! Anyway he said there's not much he or I can do without me witnessing it or someone else seeing who did it. He just gave me the report. What a helpless feeling knowing someone just walks away from this with no punishment. I guess I'll have to leave it to Karma at this point.

I know how you feel about apartment complexes and nice cars, but in this case, the "scratcher" is not human .. there are huge scratches on my hood that showed up one day, and these days I've been parking under a brick ledge .. Figured a few cats had a party on my hood.

Granted I live in suburban/rural area, but keying seems to be very rare out here. That said, clean and nice cars tend to be the victims regardless where the act takes place. In general I don't trust people, and always park my car in my garage, if for any reason I can't I am constantly peaking out the window making sure no one is screwing with it.

Major bummer about getting keyed, not just once but twice now... its a sad state of society, regardless who is doing it.

Damn..............

That too bad ST, as you really seem to love and maintain your car. Nowadays, it seems as if no one has any respect for someone else's property.

Thanks guys. It really does make me feel sad for our society. Like I said though, whether the law catches up with this cat or someone catches up with him, karma will do it's thing. What's ironic about this is that my fiancee and I have recently been discussing putting the condo up for sale and finding a house with a garage, but since we're getting married next month we decided we'd wait to pursue it until after the wedding.

Either way I'm actually proud of myself for being somewhat over it already. Last time I sulked for days and days, but this time I'm just realizing there's no reason to sit around pissed off and depressed since there's absolutely nothing I could have done differently to prevent this from happening. I'm not about to go throw a car cover on every night and I just can't spend my time worrying about who's outside around my car all the time. It's my DD so I expect the door dings and scrapes, it's just the key scratches that get under my skin because they're obviously intentional, but until we move into a nicer place and have a garage to park in there's not much I can do to stop it from happening. Plus, not to be cocky or anything, but my car's the nicest one in the parking lot, so if it was unrelated to the first one or just a random kid with issues, it makes sense they'd go for the shiny red one. It's like a freaking bulls eye among the white, silver and beige economy cars and small SUVs in my complex.

I've worked on cars with everything from "fuck you" to pictures of penises key'd into them. I've probably seen 200 key'ings in 3 years in Toronto. Probably 2,000 in 10 years in SF. It happens everywhere and it sucks.

Tru. I'm very thankful I didn't get the penis or an f u carved into my car. That would've needed to be fixed ASAP, this I can live with for a little while.

That sucks, dings and dents bother me but those are unintentional, at least I'd hope. I'd probably get arrested if I caught someone keying my car. I'll leave it at that.

some cockstain door checked my s2000 when it was 3 months old, wicked hard too the ding is on the crease and the dent removal people can't guaranty they can remove it with out cracking the paint. Makes me want to trade the car in, what pisses me off is I purposely parked the car kind of by itself with no other cars near it, yet somehow it happened it is a sad world we live in.

I had a guy door check me with me in the car at the time. Hit it pretty hard, my gf was with me so I get out and said let me get the door for you........went around to the other side and by accident must have opened her door so fast that mine hit his and creased his door right in(literally 1 foot crease), with him still withing sight. Which obviously elevated to quite the verbal fight and me taking off like a bitch, but it was worth it, I cannot stand people that will just do it right in front of you, like your car means nothing.

yes I kno, I went to far, but no regrets, besides messing my door up even worse, but it was the principle of the thing. and a little thing called rage

I just don't understand the satisfaction these people get from keying someone's car. Do they feel better after they do something so childish and ridiculous?
