i assume its "all mode" - but i always use the mode that displays the "A"...im pretty sure thats the mode that will detect the most. the others are used to eliminate false alarms..seeing how i only turn mine on when i drive on the highway, i need the most sensitivity to any potential cops

A stands for Auto sensing mode I believe. My passport had the same options. When I got the RS, I moved up and ordered myelf a Escort SR7 "built in" setup. Very much worth it if yo enjoy the OEM interior the way it is.

Read the manual? If it works like every other one there is a low sensitivity for city areas and a high sens for interstate/highway.
I have a general question since a lot of people in this thread have detectors... Do you have to mount it in the window for the best protection? I was thinking about mounting mine in the console somewhere to eliminate people going "hey look a detector" and tailing me on the highway(granted that can give you some rear pull over protection)

Advanced Logic - upper case L.
V1 recommends mounting it up as high as possible. Mine's mounted next to the rear view mirror, just underneath the blue tint. The wires are run over the headliner and behind the A-pillar to the fusebox and is hard-wired. The remote display sits on top of the steering column.

Late for this thread, but I don't use my V1 in the city (I know where the cops hang out and slow down) and leave it in A mode on the freeways in interurban travel.
The arrows are NO joke, this sucker has saved me so many times. Oddly enough, I speed LESS in the V than in my RL.

In the All-Bogeys (A) mode, all bogeys will be reported as soon as they are deteced. Use your Judgement to decide whether or not they are threats
In the Logic (Small L) and Advanced Logic (Big L) modes, you are deferring to the internal computer which will use its own logic to screen bogeys before reporting them to you
In Logic, X-Band bogeys the computer judges to be non-threatening will be reported at a "muted" volume. If they become threatening, the audio warning will upgrade to the "initial" volume before you are within radar range.
In Advanced-Logic, X-Band bogeys that the computer has reason to believe aren't radar will not be reported at all. One exception: To be failsafe, the computer will always pass extremely strong signals along for your judgement. This mode is particularly useful in metro areas.
The computer is smart: It never operates the receiving curcuits at less than maximum sensitivity and it knows that Instant-On is a greater threat than ordinary radar. So it will always warn you immediately at the "initial" volume when those radars are detected, no matter what mode you've selected."

I've passed probably 10-15 marked patrol cars on my drive to and from work on I65 in Indiana in the last 2-3 days w/o my detector going off.
Cops that use instant on are going to get you regardless if you're the first one they shoot the detectors are best for the guys that are driving along with their shit on shooting everyone coming the other way. It also helps warn you if someone might be zapping with instant on up the road so you'll know to slow her down for a little while.

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
Oh, you never thought of one as being a simple warning IF you happen to be over but don't notice (as most newer cars are very quite) the speed? Must be all those years as a veteran driver.
