Thumbs down just got in a car accident a couple hours ago

there goes my car... at least for a while. i'm fine, i just have some lower back pain.

i was driving down a main street here going west. a lady driving a rental ford taurus just crossed the street without looking and before i could even react, i t-boned her. she admits fault and it's obvious to anyone who sees the damage that it was her fault. the airbags didn't go off and i was going about 35MPH...

not a big deal, but my car's out of commission for a while now... hopefully my back doesn't get worse.

do cars with extensive front damage often come out of accidents with no long term damage to the engine or any other critical component of the car?

after the accident i had to turn my car to get off the road and the steering column was rubbing on something. the bottom of the car looked like it was going to come off and the cooling fan made some WEIRD noise... coolant was leaking everywhere... my CAI was damaged and I'm worried that it might have caused some damage to the throttle body...

anyway, i'm fine! thought i'd share since most people share there acura accidents here haha.

i wouldn't think a sudden stop would be good for the transmission.

If you really did T-Bone someone at 35MPH, YES the car would be totaled.
But from the damage you described and the fact that the airbags didn’t go off, I’d say you had probably slowed down to much less then 35MPH at the point of impact.
Front end damage is tricky though.
I’ve seen cars that looked like light damage get totaled out and others that had the entire front end ripped off and they fixed them.
It all depends on what mechanical components got damaged or moved.

Be careful because that can get worse days or weeks after the accident and/or develop into chronic pain.

Unfortunately, he's probably right. Same thing just happend to one of my co-workers last Thursday. He just found out yesterday afternoon that his car was totaled. He said he was still able to drive it and there was no fluid leaking. At least your alright, but I would get your back checked out by more then one doctor.

Why was it totaled, Gixxster? Frame bent? 80% damage cost vs car value?

depends on how bad the damage is. hard to say without seeing it.

Couple pointers with insurance company:
#1. Don't let them "bully" you into going to a certain body shop. Go to the body shop you feel will do a good job. They just want to save money.

#2. Demand a rental car that compares to the CL. When I got hit in the Tundra. I was just gonna drive my Accord and be nice to the insurance company. They were being asses by saying "oh you can only take it to 'XYZ body shop' and we'll only pay for used body parts on 02 Tundra and all this B.S. So I said "Fine you wanna be a bastard I will be too. I said I need a truck that compares to the Tundra. I honestly run a mowing business. however, we got a hitch on my 00 Honda Odysee and it would tow the trailer we have. I never told her that. She wanted to give me a Chevy Malibu. I said A Chevy Malibu would never tow my trailer. she said "Oh." She was bitching because I needed a truck. It was like an extra 50 dollars a day. Then she wanted to give me a little 4 cylinder Ranger without a hitch. I said I need a hitch plus a 4 popper won't do. So she went and got this FIRE ENGINE RED 05 2500 Dodge Ram with a Hemi 4x4. It was sweet until I saw the mileage I got with it.
10 mpg.and 90% was highway no towing.
