im sure the insurance is much cheaper on the GTO than the vette.

Plus getting in and out of a GTO is easier to do than in a vette. IMO

With that kind of power....you better be in the 12s! A friend of mine is doing the heads/cams/inake/exhaust package on his 2000 Ram Air TA. The shop that is doing the work has a TA with the same thing he's gonna get and it runs 11.40s! I know the LS1/2s respond verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry well to heads and cam mods!

Here’s my take (and math) on this:
He mentioned paying nearly 5-Grand for parts.
I figured another 1500-2000 for install.
Add that to a 33-34K GTO and your talking a 40-42K car with a voided powertrain warranty.
Compare this to a 2005 Vette with 400HP stock that sells for 44K.
Plus the fact that it’s about 800-1000 lbs lighter.

Now he’s explained that he got the GTO for a good deal and is somehow keeping the warranty after the mods.
Not what I’d do, but I understand what he’s doing now.

BTW…. I saw an ad in today’s paper for 5,500 rebates off the 2004 GTO.
So you can get one for less then 28,000 dollars….THAT’S one HELL of a deal I think.

Shawn your such a fuckin ....dont hate on me because you buried youself in a slow, d gold packaged out, now worth nothing car. With your wheels and tires you still will have more money into your car than I will into mine!I dont understand what is so hard for you to understand...I cant have a 2 seat car & a vette realistically cant be had for under 50k. If I dont recall you did test drive the gto youself and said...

I know there have been several reports already about this car so I won’t go into detail, but let me just say……..

HOLY SHIT THAT SUCKER GOT POWER !!!

It was a bright YELLOW 6-Speed that I drove.
I went over with my friend to do that OnStar contest and we decided to go for a ride. We didn’t win.
He drove first and didn’t really get on it too much.
When I took over I figured I would see what I could get away with because the sales dude was sitting in the back seat.

I absolutely LOVE the rumble of that V8 under the hood.
Even at idle it sounds like it wants to go.
When you get on it in gear it sounds like a NASCAR racer from inside….BEAUTIFUL !!!
I punched it in 2nd gear right after the up shift and the back end easily broke free.
Dropping from 4th to 3rd for torque braking gives you a satisfying “burble” from the pipes.

Granted I love my car, but there’s something truly exhilarating about having 350 ponies under the hood and enough torque available to spin the tires with the RPM’s down so low.
Temped to trade ??? NO, but I was much more impressed then I thought I would be.

If there’s a dealer in you’re area that allows you to take one out for a spin, go for it.

Fucking hypocrite Get off my nuts!

dude, i have a trans am, and everything you bought was awesome, but you should have done some research on the slp MAF. I had one and all it did was throw SES lights all day. The car was a pig and ran like shit on hot days. Plus when i went to get it tuned it kept giving false signals and made it hard to adjust the a/f. Put the stock one back on and gained about 18 whp back. and when tuned i got another 9 on top of that. i still have mine in my house. I hated the thing.

with the heads and cam package the he is getting he can have upwards of 450-500 with headers, exhaust and a proper tune. The tune makes a lot of power when done correctly on a heads and cam car. Also as far as exhaust go, dont do the loud mouth or borla if you are gojng long tubes with no cats. They will sound raspy. TSP has the Rumbler which sounds awesome.

Corsa sounds hot, but there are other less expensive exhaust that sound better. Go to ls1sounds.com. Mind you the f bodies are not true dual, but these are how the exhausts sound on different setups like stock, cams, off road y pipe, headers, you name it. Also most manufacturers are listed. Check it out and let me know what u think.

Phil,

Sorry, don’t know why you’re getting all bent out of shape and insulting my car.
I’ve said many times that the GTO is awesome.
If you re-read my post again you’ll see that I said I understand after you stated the warranty was still valid and you got the car for a good discount.

I don’t understand why you jumped off the handle there.

Congrats on the mods.I would just do heads and cams but not exhaust IMO the stock GTO exhaust sounds sweet, in fact it sounds better than the new C6. Instead I would go with a 150 shot and turn that GTO into a beast.

H/C/I LS1's are pretty sick

I cant see any way there will still be a drivetrain warranty though. Sure if your radio starts acting weird the warranty is good, but when you start swapping major engine parts, dont expect anyone to warranty it.

I have read that GTO's have a problem with axlehop, any problem with that?

I drove a couple GTO's a month or so ago when they had the crazy lease rates on them ($300/24 months), and I was moderatley impressed with the car. The gearing seemed WAAAAAY too tall, and I was maybe expecting it to feel a little faster, but it sure had a nice interior & handled nicely. For the $$$ my money would go to the Cobra though. 430rwhp costs maybe $1500, not $4800.

There is no such thing as a "good deal" on a GM product People are laughing their asses off at GTO leases offered due to the fact GM cant give them away Drive around to Pontiac lots, there are plenty 04 GTO's left, nobody wants them Sure thay are a good "performance bang for buck" but thats it. Another failure for PONTIAC

What do fat chicks and GTO's have in common?

Phil, have you ever had a car like this before? My friend has a 99 WS6 with built a built motor, cam, heads, headers, and a 150 shot on top of that. The car isn't his daily driver because it's too loud. I love loud cars, but I think you maybe suprised at how loud this car is going to be. I love hearing a lopey cam, but not on my daily driver.

Quick Reply: Just bought a bunch of goodies for the GTO
