I had the displeasure of watching a show I hadn't watched in a long time the other day - Motorweek. After like the 30 years or whatever they have been on, I am sad to report that the show STILL looks the same as in like the 80's!!! WTF?!?! Anyway, watching this video reminded me of the staggering difference between Top Gear and what we have here. Sad.

Oh and, beautiful vid. It's not only about Clarkson - it's also some AMAZING camera work!

And that's quite a laugh that the Z4M keeps up with the SRT @ the track!

everyone who says the M engines are lacking in torque can EAT IT!

agreed. I cannot watch any other car show after watching TOP GEAR. The camera/music/etc is like out of a movie. A big budget movie.

We have Motoring in Canada on TSN. It's even worse than MotorWeek. SPEED/TNN used to have Motortrend/Car and Driver. They stopped thsoe shows.

That's really not all that surprising, the GC SRT8 can beat the SRT10 Viper around the track consistantly....at least when running hot laps.

But with 100% effort, the Viper is quite a capable machine.

How many Viper guys do you know that would take the Z4M seriously? The majority would be this is an enlightening vid. If the GC SRT8 can beat it too, that's pretty sad too. I think this says more about the Viper, not the other cars.

Assuming Clarkson is not lying about the driver of the SRT:

Danny McKeever runs a racing school @ Willow Springs - yeah I would think he knows a thing or 2 about that track. If not, well damn, I'm opening a racing school too. Stig's home is the UK correct me if I'm wrong - I seriously doubt he has as much experience at Willow Springs as the other guy.

Wow, I had no idea the GC SRT8 was so fast. The last time Motor Trend took the Viper and Z06 to Willow Springs this year, the Viper was slightly faster than the Z06. So you're saying that the GC SRT8 is faster than the Z06 too?

At every SRT event, professional drivers.....the GC SRT8 has beaten every other SRT vehicle (including the Viper).

Like I said, with 100% effort as the Viper isn't that easy to drive and not doing hot laps around the track. The Viper could certainly beat the GC in a full blown race at to the max race speeds. Tire spin is what dooms the Viper on the track.

What I meant to say was that he could not drive the Viper very well.

A Yugo can beat an Enzo around the track. It's all dependant on the driver. There is no way a GC SRT8 should be anywhere near a Viper with a decent driver.

I am guessing that Top Gear kind of stages stuff for dramatical purposes. I did a search of "Danny McKeever" in google and he is a pro driver and instructs at Willow. If you watch the video, you can see he clearly misses the racing line. Kind of funny that a guy whom has driven the track extensively for years, cannot hit an apex.

We're talking about broadcasting to a public that believes sending new drivers to real performance driving schools is somehow dangerous. It's no wonder that American shows like Motorweek absolutely refuse to portray automobiles as anything other than appliances since you're not supposed to have fun in one, EVER. And you can rest assured that if anyone here produced a show like Top Gear then some nanny lobbying group like Daughters Against Fun Touring would start bitching non-stop until the show was either toned down or taken off the air. Because it would be "irresponsible", you see.

Let me know when we've removed the broom handle from our collective ass.

Sorry for the rant/hijack.

That's true, but that really wasn't my point......even with decent drivers the Viper can lose in a race.

Sorry I deleted the rest of your post on accident, but read it. This is the line I wanted to quote anyway.

You do need to take one for a spin, impressive for what it is......here is one guy's observation

"I watched the Jeep beat all the SRT vehicles, including the Viper, in two hot laps where the instructors drove the vehicles with one passenger around the track, and the Jeep beat all of them over and again. None of the other cars could hang. Even out of the pit area it gave the Viper a run for its money. As the Viper was smoking its tires the Jeep beat it onto the track."

But I did find another post where someone was at a different SRT event and the Viper beat all the others vehicles that day.

About as many BMW guys who take a Viper seriously. It was a funny video, not to be taken too seriously. The Viper is interesting but not really the finest engineering machine. Would be interesting to run a RS4 against the Viper. Although most people on the street would appreciate the RS4 no more than a A4 and a Viper has a huge wow factor.

I'm wondering what the viper could do if dodge got rid of some of the rawness and dropped an AWD setup into it.

I think if Stig was driving the Viper it woulda smoked the Z4M. That being said, not sure what the purpose of this video is.

This reminds me of the Top Gear drag race where the Corvette lost to a 911. The Z4M may handle better and have somewhat better brakes, but in the hands of a skilled driver the Viper should have won that race.

Wow, you could not be further from the truth. Third Gen Vipers currently have some of the best brakes on a production car.
