j32a3 '66 Mustang build

Hey everyone this os my first post here and just introducing myself and my current project.

I'm in the process of building a 66 Mustang for my 75 year old mother. Her first new car was a 68 Mustang and she has always loved the look of the first body styles, but wanted one she could drive every day of the year, rain snow or shine and handled veterans than the original, so....

We picked up an old rotted out 66 Mustang and a 96 Honda Civic. I cut the body off the Civic so I just had the floor, suspension and firewall, then cut what was left of the floor out of the Mustang and mated the two together. Unbelievablly the stock Mustang inner rockers slid right down on the outside of the Honda inner rockers and the floor had to be stretched only 3.5" to get the proper wheelbase while both cars have almost the same stock wheel track.

As of right now I have a rolling chassis and about ready to test fit and make mounts to drop a j32a3 out of an 04 TL with 5 speed automatic into it.

I am tearing the engine down right now and plan on doing a quick cleanup hone to break the glaze in the cylinders, port the hell out of the heads, then clean, polish and paint everything.

I'm pretty familiar with Hondas, they are very close in wheelbase and track, and I bought the Honda for $200 off of one of my friends lol

We are going to paint the car GM Impulse blue met, engine bay will be satin black, the the engine block, valve covers, center intakes plate and tranny painted to match the car, and the heads and intake polished..

Right now we are planning on a 17" 5 spoke wheel but that is still up in the air.

Well, she is 74 now, and turns 75 at the end of August. I told her it will be time and she will be driving it before her birthday, so I can't slack on this project lol.

My mother and father are paying for everything and I'm doing all the work with the two of them giving me a hand here and there....even at almost 75 years old she can get in the garage and loves doing lots of the dirty work lol...give her a grinder or a list of parts to find in my pile of junk and she is happy as hell!

Seriously a strange but amazing build you have going!

I can just imagine someone pulling up next to her at a stop light and when they look over they not only see a 75 y/o behind the wheel but her lighting the front tires up in a classic Mustang lol.

Believe it or not this isn't the first "mashup" swap that I've done....thanks to my wife killing her car and handing it over to me, my daily driver is a 98 Ford escort with a fully forged D16 running 17 pounds of boost and puts down right at 300 HP

I had a '98 ZX2 "Hot" ... Was not a bad little car considering it was not Ford's best era.

Put over 100k miles on it. I'm guessing you have the sedan?

Definitely a unique build. Be prepared for any non-Honda people to hate it. Props for the family build.

Charliemike Yup, 4dr sedan, just like every other Escort/ Tarus I've seen from that time right at 200,000 miles everything on the Escort started going, from the motor to all the electronic boxes to the fuel pump....it is a perfect sleeper, just to be an add I put two big Chrome dart cans on the back of it since every "race car" around here has one lol.

350, yes I know, it is definately a love it or hate it build and I have friends on both sides of that!

It came down to me asking her if she wanted a car that would be worth a lot of money when she died, or if she wanted something she could drive and enjoy every day of the year. We went with more "smiles per miles" and in the end this will be her daily driver.

My first reaction was to hate it, but when I realized it was for your 75 year old mother who wanted a daily, I can see why. It won't sound anywhere close to as nice as a 302, but then again that's probably very low on your mom's priority list

This must be the first J swapped Civic that won't have the engine sticking out through the hood.

PS - Your mom is awesome.

Hot the firewall/ engine compartment all cleaned, prepped and coated with truck bed liner.

Also same with the inside floor...some before and after shots. If you look close you can see where I cut and stretched the floor 3.5"s right infront of the front seat mounts.

Now I'll walk away from the body for tonight to let it fully cure out and hopefully get the motor all degreased and ready for paint! This is where my ADHD comes in handy lol.

When I pulled the engine down there were a few weeping leaks here and there, but other than that everything looked good...still had the hone marks in the cylinders at 104,000! I went ahead and ran the hone in and out a few times to break the glaze, but this is one of the nicest engines I've every taken apart
