I've got the itch...the motorcycle itch...

Ever since watching that episode of "Ultimate Factories" and the building of the Harley Davidson V-Rod, I got the itch....I've been browsing the web for a nice used model, something in the '03-'06 area....Problem is, my wife and just about everyone in my family would kick my ass pretty hard. Oh well...I'll have to dream a little more, I guess

Yeah...I don't even have a motorcycle license....yet...Although I have ridden bikes before. Crotch rockets just aren't my thing, but the V-Rod is a good compromise of speed/touring...Something classy and that can move if you need it to..

Hot bike, but terrible idea for a first bike. Find a nice beginner bike cheap, then get that next.

A friend has a Night Rod - beautiful to look at, and it goes like h&ll (for a HD) but the ergonomics are awful. Riding it is like sitting in a "toe touch" until your lumbar spine inevitably gives out or your hamstrings seize up.

Been there done that !!!

Shoofin, try to get into a BRC course so that you re-learn riding befor hitting the road. Also I would second the advise of getting a beater to practice before you get the bike. Trust me both ego & wallet will hurt a lot less if you drop one during practice. There is always some one with who has the itch to ride out when spring rolls in and then lose touch with it or upgrade to a bigger bike by FAll. Typically the bike prices go down in Sept -Oct time frame and move high in May - June time frame.. if you do it nicely you would lose next to nothing $$ wise on the learner bike.

Instead of losing I have made money when I bought in fall and sold in late spring !!!

I have a buddy selling his 100th anniversary vrod if interested.

I personally think the vrod is way to small of a bike. I am 6'2 and felt like I was sitting on a toy when I rode his.

I couldn't imagine getting anything that wasn't a sportbike myself, but if I had to get a cruiser it would be the V-Rod.....

Still, I find myself in love with the new Gixxer 750 (but I have given up bikes.......you hear that, I HAVE GIVEN THEM UP). Sorry, I have to keep tellinjg myself that...

Motorcycles are a terrible investment. You'll NEVER get back the money you spent on it....

That is one beautiful bike. Harleys have such a great sound....
