GF is considering the VW Rabbit...

Any opinions on the 4 door VW Rabbit? We saw one in the dealer today, but didn't have time to take a test drive.

All I know is that it has 170 HP which is much quicker than her 03 civic.

Do it!!! I've actually never actually driven a Rabbit, but GTIs are fun and they just feel solid. A friend of mine has a Rabbit and she loves it

I have never know anyone that liked their VW as it got older. I worked with someone that had a Cabrio. She hated it after 50K. I worked wirth someone else that had a Passat. It fell apart after 80K. I have a friend that had a Jetta. Fell apart after 80K. Not saying that they suck, but I really never met someone that raved about them.

new GTIs and rabbits are the best "golfs" since the very first ones over 20 years ago. MK2, 2, and 4, are shit with alot of problems. New rabbit has a 5 cylinder audi engine. and audi got famous by that engine. Eeryone says its one of the best engines. Search up vwvortex.com and you will know everything you wanna know about the car.

The Rabbit uses VW's 2.5 litre engine which is NOT an Audi engine. The engine that they share with Audi is the 2.0T.

Anyhow, the MKV Rabbit seems to be pretty well built compared to previous models. I'd say go for it especially since VW has 0% financing on remaining 2008 inventory until the end of August. As for VW reliability, I'm sure you've heard about people having problems, but there are many people without problems too. My co-worker has an MKIV Jetta with over 200k miles on it. Not bad for a VDub or any other car.

I thought that the new 2.5L in rabbits was from an older audi cars (not sure which ones) or based off of an old audi engine, but I guess I was wrong. I know that they dont share that engine now since audi doesnt come with a 2.5L engine in their newer models.

GTIs and R32s are sick, but IMO the base Rabbit is a bit underwhelming. There's too much unpainted plastic which makes it look cheap.

Agreed. We went in to another VW dealership last night, and they had this black GTI in a VW factory body kit (the Body kit is called the "Thunder Bunny" )

Now she wants a 4 door GTI with the Thunder Bunny kit. Kind of a waste because she can't drive stick, but I guess since its her car, its her choice.

She will be faster with a DSG gearbox.

The old Thunder Bunny was a tuned Golf, but this new one is just an appearance kit. Personally, I don't think the kit is worth the extra $3700, but I guess if the Misses likes it...

^ You wont believe the reason why she wants the kit.

She HATES the honeycomb grill on the GTI.

She HATES it so much that she's willing to drop an extra 3.5k on the kit.
