installing power windows and locks

Has anyone ever installed power windows and locks in a car or truck that did not come with them from the factory? I am looking at a Chevy Blazer that is pretty low mileage, and is a decent price, but it does not have either power windows and locks. I would like to get something with power windows and locks, but I am in a bind and need to get a truck (I have a van for work, but it has been giving me a lot of trouble lately, so I would like a SUV that I can use for work when the van is in the shop). I am wondering how much work and/or money it would take to do such a conversion. Are there any shops that would do this or is it just too expensive to even consider?

I'd get a shop to do it for me...Unless you have some good instructions..

I know that a keyless entry system usually costs a couple hundred, probably 300 at most for something basic. As for power windows, the parts alone are a couple hundred, and I have no clue how long/hard it is to install.

Hey Ed, don't see you around that much. You much not hang out in ramblings much anymore. Anyway, I am guessing you are referring to a keyless entry system in which the car already has power locks. I would need to install power locks first. Right now the truck has neither. I am not sure how long it would take to due myself. I browsed around ebay and found some window motors and regulators, as well as power lock motors and switches for both. The prices are too bad, I guess I would have to look around for instructions to see if it is too difficult or worth doing.

I'm around....been busy with work the last few months, but i'm around...

I'm talking about a keyless entry system for a car that doesn't have power door locks. When I worked at my last job that shared space with an auto accessory shop, I remember installing keyless entry in a customer's honda civic DX (last gen), and it cost a couple hundred..

That's actually not too bad if they install the power locks along with the keyless entry system. I wonder if there is anyway to integrate that into an alarm that the truck already has.

On a side note, do you still have that mustang you were restoring? I would love to see some pics if you do and finished it.

Still have it, haven't done anything to it lately...too busy, too poor also. I have some pics around..I'd have to search for them.

You'd need door lock actuators with the keyless entry system if the car isn't already with power door locks.

I saw some actuator on ebay as well. I guess I should see if any local shops can do something like this. Do I check with a body shop or something more like an alarm/stereo place?

alarm/stereo place.....no bodyshop necessary. It's just an actuator that triggers the latch to be unlocked when you push teh button.

Pics of teh 'stang, taken a little while back, but not much has changed other than a flowmaster exhaust installed (delta flow 55 series)

Nice. Is it a 67 or 68? I can never tell. I do love them though. Such classic lines, and an agressive look.
