Imports out, american Muscle in?
Lately i have had this desire for wanting a muscle car like a GTO or Vette even a cobra.
With cars like the CTS-V, GTO, Vette, Cobra, etc.. do you think more people will end up buying them over imports (like evo and STI) ?
Forgot what TV show i was watching, but they are saying sport compact is gonna be out soon and the muscle era will be back. What ya think?

i feel like the only import i need is either an aston martin vanquish or a bentley continental. but i think the imports are starting to get a little too mainstream...it's time to go back to the basics and get that 69 camaro out of the barn!

They all have their benefits, i've had just as much fun in 300 HP civics as I've had in 600+HP muscle cars. They all have their place and fun abilities
my next ride will most likely be an AWD turbo 4, although that new Magnum RT still gets my eye everytime I see it.

Even though my car (350Z) is an import, I think it has more in common with some muscle cars than most import sports cars. I love the torque of the VQ, but I need even more. My next car will be a V8.

going on the automotive definition, I agree... but you know what he meant. and the new GTO wouldn't qualify either IMO since its a completely different vehicle than the classic gto.
muscle car meaning a high powered american car.

My last ride was a V8 Tbird, and I do miss the low end torque of it. The new Mustang has caught my eye, but I'm a ford guy from way back (Pintos).

right....
t I think the term was initially applied to a big engine dropped into a car that originally came with a smaller engine....or something like that.
theres no replacement for displacement :redneck:

i dont think i would ever buy a new american car. either german or japanese for me. true while muscle cars are super fast in a line they dont corner for shit. i would rather have a turbo awd corner ,track monster( not 1/4 mile) or drift machine maybe all of the above

I dunno, i think that stereotype might go out the window soon. Z06 and i think the CTS-V do really well on tracks.

the best thing about the evo and sti is that they are better suited to a young crowd not only because they are very capable, but a mustang or gto with big power to the rear end may be alot more dangerous.
awd, plus turbo lag would surely make it an easier drive than a true muscle v8 rwd car. so i doubt the evo or sti will lose sales. I personally would prefer the overall drive of an evo over a gto for example, but thats partly because i feel awd is the better choice in drivetrain in any performance car. plus i am young and like to take corners, a powerful v8 rwd get me into big trouble

I’d like my next car to have a V8 under the hood.
If the 07 M3 only comes with a slushbox SMG, it might have to be a Vette or something comparable.
Maybe I’ll go luxury and get an off-lease 04-05 6-Speed 645Ci

I think American cars are getting better and better as the years come; especially Cadillac. The CTS-V is badass! It has power, luxury, and refinement; some of the things that the European counterpart has, but with a cheaper cost. I like where GM is heading now and after owning a European car; I would never again buy from them. Way too expensive to maintain. I'm sticking with the Japanese for luxury cars and as far as sport cars go; American all the way! BTW I'm done with automatic Honda/Acura. Screw them and their transmissions. Yeah they're reliable, but their quality sucks. Toyota/Lexus is superior in many ways!

There probably is a move to American Muscle...because the imports have been kickin their asses so long...and bridged the power gap admirably while maintaining reliability and mpg....that the domestic manufacturers have changed up and improved interiors, styling and reliability while adding a healthy dose of power.

Shawn is showing the big money. Your right the 645 is a beautiful and powerful machine. I would do the same if I can afford to. Maybe I can by the time I reach your age :killer:

I dont think I'll ever go a period of time without owning some sort of rwd V8 car.
People who rip on the because they dont handle need to give it a rest. If you're talking about road-racing or auto-xing, then the driver makes a MUCH larger difference in track times than the car's setup. I was chasing down a heavily modified Civic Si (coilovers, sticky tires, etc) at Gingerman road course, and I have drag shocks & drag tires.

RWD is the prefered configuration for any type of racing. Even Honda/Acura knows this ...S2000, NSX...
edit: Even my pinto pictured above, was good in snow...

With Toyota becoming the 2nd largest Auotmaker in the world with its sales leading in the US and followed close behind with the other Japanese makers. The domestics have a long way to go.

Toyota Aims to Rival GM Production
Global Sales Push Taps Cash Hoard, but Strength Of Yen Is Eroding Profits
Toyota Motor Corp., already the world's most profitable auto maker, is ramping up operations across the globe in a bid to rival General Motors Corp. as the world's No. 1 car producer by volume.
Shrugging off a 1.5% decline in fiscal second-quarter earnings, Toyota said surging consumer demand for its products means the company is on track to expand annual sales from 6.7 million vehicles last year to 8.5 million vehicles world-wide by 2006, two years ahead of the company's original goal. At that revved-up pace, Toyota is set to challenge longtime No. 1 GM, which last year sold 8.6 million vehicles world-wide.
Flush with cash, Toyota is using its enormous advantages in profitability and financial flexibility to grab and hold market share at a time when its two traditional U.S. rivals, GM and Ford Motor Co., are constrained by their weak credit ratings, rising health-care and pension costs and losses in their automotive businesses. Toyota also confirmed it likely will open a new North American plant as part of its expansion, even as GM and Ford are making plans to cut overtime or lay off temporarily thousands of workers to avoid a repeat of this summer's inventory glut.
At a briefing, Chairman Hiroshi Okuda, showing Toyota's new drive, offered a new slogan in the first slide of his presentation: "We Can & We Will." His comments suggest a significant shift in Toyota's traditional posture, which has often been to downplay its rivalry with Detroit lest the tensions cause U.S. politicians to punish Toyota for its success.
