I've fought off getting a European car, cause reliability, esp if I pay over $30k, $35k... is a high priority. Audi and BMw are more stylish and cool but I still stick with Acuras.
The more a car costs the more problem-free and reliable it should be to me. Unfortunately this is not reality.
Saw in Consumer reports that domestic brands have now passed the European brands in reliability. I'm still amazed at how many cars BMW sells, at those prices. Why improve on reliability if people will buy it anyway, I guess. I've driven the 3 series coupes and I just don't get it. Handling of course is excellent, but I need more than that for $35-40k.
Sorry about your repair, I love Audis.

I have had 5 VWs, over 10 regulators replaced. VWoA said they redisgned the mechanisms from plastic to metal, all that really did was make it more expensive to replace when it broke! Thank GOd for extented warranty.

Regulators are easy to fix in VWs and Audis. I've replaced 2 in my friend's 01 S4.

BTW: if you have tint, prepare to get your window retinted, when the window falls in the door, your tint hasa 50% chance of going 'scratchy-scratch'.

Uhh, wake-up. BMW has the best quality of all the German brands and is better than the big three. The best is Porsche(for germans) but they're low production, not exactly daily-driven vehcles. My dads 17 year old BMW 325 is has less problems than my dads 02 GMC Envoy. Here is the 2003 quality survey. http://www.jdpa.com/studies_jdpower/...ID=749&CatID=1 Its also skewed since brands like Buick, Mercury, Cadillac and Lincoln aren't producing a ton of cars (except for Town Cars maybe).

Sorry to break this to you Jesal, but Audi quality kinda sucks. I mean they're below Chrysler and Dodge. Should have stayed with the BMW

Mclaren, BMW may have the best quality ... of the German brands, I didn't say they didn't. Obviously a lot of driver's don't put reliability as high as I do, that's fine. Even people I know that are repeat buyers of BMws, have lots more problems than I've ever had with Hondas and they keep buying them. It's all personal preference.
I love the BMw and Audis for their good points, but less reliability is a deal breaker for me, esp if I'm paying more. I had enough of things breaking prematurely with domestic cars.

My 03 Audi A4 1.8t had a few issues before I got rid of it at 8000 miles. Window control module on driver side went out. Windows stopped working. (Could be your problem, check to see if the rear controls work or try with the key in the door to close and open the windows). Also some sensor went out in the engine causing a code, timing chain clank, needed a new tensioner, AC not blowing cold, needed more freon. That was all I saw with it in those amount of miles.

no sport package = no care

Car feels like a boat to me and the steering is really disconnected compared to my A4. Other than that its pretty soild and the power is great coming out of the 2.7t.

Welcome to the world of Audi's/VW's.. A few friends and family have had numerious issues like you have just had - Nothing major, but minor inconveniences. They get annoying after a while. 2 of the previous Audi owners have moved on to the new TL, and another now owns a 3 Series...

I really wish Audi/VW would get their act together. They make excellent cars and the best interiors in the market. They just need to fix these little stupid problems.

I love Audi's designs, inside and out, real innovators. but I love Honda/Acuras quality and simpler approach. If Acuras looked more like Audis, or Audis were more reliable, I'd want both, but for now I'm sticking with Acura.

I'd rather a German car that breaks down than a Japanese car that has problems. Why buy a Japanese car that is unreliable? Beats 1/2 the purpose of buying one no?

What's wrong with Japanese cars? The new TL is an outstanding car. I am not a huge fan of FWD, and I see that as the cars fault, but it's about the best in it's class. I'd take it over a C-class, 325 or A4 any day. And although many here have been having problems with their transmissions, Acura is still WAY ahead of the German cars in terms of reliability.

Read your first post, it sounds like your lumping BMW into the crappy german quality category.

And like mantis said, no car is perfect. Each car has its trade offs. You buy a BMW because it is one of the best handleing cars every, you want RWD, styling (pre Bangle) is appealing, and dealer service is much better than Acura.
You buy an Acura for the FWD, reliability, and for the fact that they are reasonably priced.
Thats not to say BMW's aren't reliable or aren't good in the snow. You always have the option of AWD and most of the BMW CCA NJ chapter owns old 3-series like my dads (E30 84-92) and they have upwards of 250k miles on them and they still run strong.
Plus, Acura got a bad rap for quality with our whole tranny issue. No car is perfect, and you're comparing apples to oranges.

I think the TL is great. But in reading all the issues it's had since 1999, might as well take your chance with a German. Reliablity, IMO, is a tossup between the 2.

Everyone is different in terms of what they look for in a car. To me german cars have soul that i cant find in a japanese car.

I find the TL nice on paper but boring to drive for me. I still rather have my slow unreliable A4 than the new TL.

Theres just somthing about those damn german cars that make people buy them over and over again.

I think the cars quality all depends on how much beer Hans and Frans drank the night before.. The more they drink, the better cars they build.... That goes with the old American saying that you enver buy a car that was built on Monday or Friday. LoL.

My 2000 A4 2.8 Audi went 64K without ANY problems.. Not 1 squeek. Not 1 rattle. My father has an Audi 5000, Audi 90, and 2 Audi 100's.. Excellent cars.. All except the last 100. That car was evil. It was like a chain of events. First the cable to the spedo broke. Then they fixed it wrong and they put a new tranny in the car. Then the sun roof stuck open. And on and on. But Audi backed him 100%. Never cost him 1 penny to drive that car..

Quick Reply: Im at 5k miles with my Audi......
