Idiotic Drivers

I can't stand people who zig zag through traffic only trying to race you to a stop light.

I'm driving on US 1 which is a 55 mph road, however has traffic lights. I'm in the left hand, and there is a 18 wheeler in the right hand lane which I plan on passing. We're approaching the traffic light, which has now turned red. This Nissan Sentra, which has been following me for the past mile now decides that he's going to try to pass me on the right and then cut in front of me.

Needless to say, he was unable to pass me and due to the wet roads, he slammed into the back of the truck. I felt no remorse as that was plain and simply a stupid move on his part.

Everyone please drive responsibly.

It's just sad that things like this happen every day, and sadder that hundreds of thousands of people are killed because of it.

I've got my fair share of idiotic driving tales as well.

Before I even read this I thought it would be a story of a NJ driver. Route 1 is a deathtrap. I avoid it like the plague. Only the GSP north of the NJ Tpk is worse.

I just

Some elderly dude was tailgating me once for about 5 miles in traffic, right on my ass. I was cruising it and held my lane, then out of nowhere he changes lane and stomps it, gets side by side with me and he and his wife look over. Before he knows it the cars in his lane come to a complete stop and my lane keeps going, stupid idiot locked up the brakes on his Honda Passport and smashed into the back of some car.

the other day there's an intersection, and I was at a red light with said asian woman next to me. we have two lanes for each of us, and through the intersection, the two lanes continue for miles. The light turns green, we move forward, she slowly drifts to get into my lane for no apparent reason. I honk. she continues. I honk. she continues. I lay on the horn, she's still moving over. At this point she's literally pushing me off the road. So I had to be the safer one and brake and let her in.

Two things I fucking HATE:

#1 When there there are 2 left turn lanes and the driver in one of the lanes doesn't know even though there are 3 HUGE FUCKING SIGNS that say 2 lanes turn left and they drive right into your lane like they own the road. Has happened to me more times than I can remember...

#2 It seems NOBODY yields to drivers coming from the highway offramp these days. I am coming from the offramp in front of a driver on the service road, I need to get all the way over for a right turn and the dickfuck speeds up so I had to hit the brakes, let the prick go by, and I barely made my turn.

#1 PISSES me off. There was a new one that they made around my town, and they actually drew guide lines for drivers to follow, and people STILL fucked up.

i agree.

theres this road i take to school every morning. i have to turn left and there are 3 lanes to make a left turn. on the right most lane, that is the one you use to go on a free way or go straight. i take it to go straight. almost everyday i nearly get into an accident because some dumbshit decides to stay in the left most lane and cut into the right most lane and try to get onto the highway. needless to say, im constantly getting road rage due to these guys. but it also has some advantages too... every day i drive on that road, i feel that my skill in driving is getting better and better.

I've got a
#3 people that having been stuck behind a slow driver for a while get to a highway on ramp and feel it necessary to pass immediately when merging on, most of the time before the lines even merge, thus cutting off anyone else that wanted to do it when it would be safe.. Happens to me a few times a month, I'm third or forth in line behind the slow guy and some dick, comes flying by all of us, when one of us ahead could have legally passed..thus endangering all our lives.

lol I'm the worst. I get pissed off when I'm driving alone and its carpool hour and the person in the 2nd lane is driving slow as shit and I can't get past them legally or safely. Today it was a Chinese chick in a Saturn coupe. I have no problem with Chinese people at all - but I know from experience that a lot of the older Chinese folks can be extremely inconsiderate or just plain rude... even my Chinese friend from school thinks the same way. Anyways, the lady only moved over when it was time for her to get on her exit ramp.... there was literally a football field's world of empty highway in front of her before that

I would feel like a complete dumbshit and would be furious if I got a ticket for trying to pass during carpool hours so I never went, though once in a while I can't stand it so I put it in 3rd, zoom past all of them and quickly move over. But you only get lucky so many times....

we really ought to be able to counter this bs, besides flipping off the person, who when receiving the bird doesn't even know why they got it.

I think the only real solution to all our problem is stricter training, tests and retesting to make sure no "special" people slip through. The US has to have one of the worst driving standards of all of western civilization. When I got my license, I had a written multi choice test of 5 questions...5! and then a 10 minute driving test, where in I actually only passed because the driver before me, wrecked her car during the test and the tester was merely happy to be alive and excited that I could parallel park......without causing a 3 car accident. These standards are sad, luckily I've strived ever since getting my license to be the best driver on the road, but we are a rare few.

German standards are a little too strict and restrictive (by that I mean $$$$) IMO but it would probably do our future drivers a whole world of good. I think a good way to test is to have one examiner in the car with you, AND another in a separate car, following you, intimidating you (ok maybe not that with a new driver), but in general just watching you and testing you to see how you react.

For example, the examiner can find an empty highway, then tell the testee (hehe, I said teste) to get behind the other examiner in the other car, then tell them to pass the car. If the testee passes on the right, insta-FAIL. IMO that would be the only correct way to brand the correct way or driving into people's heads. It could also work the other way, have the other examiner tail them in the fast lane.... if the testee doesn't move within 2-3 seconds and the lane to their right is open, insta-fail.

And what are the punishments for driving with a suspended license? IMO it should be jail time.... even worse if you never even had a license to begin with (COUGHillegalsCOUGH)

My favorite thing is when people rush up an ending lane (Oregon always has two signs indicating so) and then get really pissed off when people don't want to let them in.

Another thing I love to watch is people stopping on railroad tracks and then freaking out when they get trapped as the gates come down and a train bears down on them. I've seen that happen once...the guy probably had to go change pants.

ROFL, been there, seen that.

I just don't understand what's so hard about reading traffic flow and scanning at least 5 seconds ahead.

I gotta admit I have done that a couple times. Let's say I am coming off an onramp to the highway but it is rushhour. There are a few cars in front of me that stop and try to merge on as soon as possible even though there is another 1/4-1/2 mile of road to merge. I generally have good vision and can see smart drivers leaving two or so car lengths in front of them so I will pass the people stopped in my lane and go merge in front of that guy giving a bunch of space. I don't see anything wrong with that... But then again if I don't see any space to merge I will just merge with the flow of traffic from the onramp.

Oh and one more thing.. I was on an overpass today that goes from one freeway to another this morning during rush hour so we were all patiently waiting as it crept forward but then some douche ni a tahoe who must have been going like 50 mph just flys by all of us in the emergency lane or wahtever you call it... WHY aren't there cops around for people like that? I was pissed and hoped he would wreck.

^I see that all the time. One of my friends actually "stops" people by just leaning a little over to the shoulder so they can't pass him. and they end up being stuck alongside the road for the rest of the ride.

I just give people the benefit of the doubt, maybe it's a pregnant woman in labor or someone who has to take a crap real bad (been there) or whatever. And let the police handle it.

Same thing happened to me once...except I ended up on the shoulder. Best part was, the people in the car looked back at me like I was nuts!

Other idiots include:

1) People who don't move over to let people on or off the interstate. We have a lot of really short approaches here, and I've seen people actually stop on them because they couldn't get in.
2) People who don't get the fuck out of the left lane. I don't care how fast you're going, if someone is going faster than you, move over and let them by.
3) People who drive on the shoulder. I always hope there's some crap in it and they damage their car.

I think people need to chill and learn patience. If knucklehead just followed me, I would have moved to the right after passing the truck and he could have flew by me as fast as he wanted.

His car probably lacked anti-lock brakes, because I watched as he jammed on the brakes, heard the impact as he smashed into the truck and then into the center barrier. Light turned green and I was out of there.

Left lane hoggers are the only thing that really piss me off. The main highway I take almost every day has only 2 lanes. You see a lot of people that hog the left lane thinking "I'm already doing 75, that is fast enough. I don't need to move to the right!" GTFO of the way people. If I was doing 95 and a car got up behind me, I would move right ASAP.

Also, people who hang in the left lane while cruising and the right lane is completely empty... move over in case some ass comes flying up the left. Dangerous to hang in the left when that happens... chances are he might get impatient and change right as soon as you do.

I had a guy STOP on the onramp the other night. In the dark and in the rain. People don't know how to merge onto highways.

It makes me wonder how many left lane idiots have been ticketed/arrested in Germany for doing stupid shit like that. And people wonder why America can't have an Autobahn style road. Most drivers here just don't have the discipline or the understanding to drive on a road like that. I bet money that 95% of Americans think the Autobahn is just a big race to see who can drive the fastest.

Almost smashed into a Corolla today. I was doing 50 on this road, lady was sitting at a stop sign waiting to make a left onto the road I was on. Instead of waiting till I passed (no one behind me), she pulled out right fuckin in front of me. I tried slamming on the brakes, but had no time to stop. I was going to hit her if I kept trying to slow down. Instead I had to floor it and pass her on the left on the other side of the road to avoid hitting her. Blew my horn and gave her a nasty look as I flew by. Stupid bitch.

It's not the "fast" lane. It's the Passing Lane. As in "Keep Right Except to Pass". If you're not passing, move the Fk over. Urban interstate/freeway, I can see a little more latitude, but I-85 in the middle of BFE Georgia? Move the Fk over.

Merging: If you are merging (to or from a freeway, for example) it is *your* responsibilty to merge safely. IOW it is a courtesy (too often, sadly missing) for other drivers to give you room.

Turn Signals: You want in my lane? Use your turn signal, I'll give you all the room need. No turn signal? Don't look for me to help you out. This is *especially* true in heavy, slow traffric.

i cant stand people who drive like this. however, most of them are teenagers. ironically, i too drove like this at 16/17. hopefully everyone will outgrow this with age. but hey, insurance is high for teens for a reason. and there will always be teens on the road. guess you have to accept this...

At this thread.. Im 17 and I dont drive like a dumbass anymore. At 15 here in montana, anybody.. fkn ANYBODY can get their license. Its insane!

Every mornin when I go to school, there is this 4 way stop I go thru, turning left every time. There is no lights so its up to the dumbshit drivers to decide when to go. Nearly every day, someone attemps to t-bone me when im turin left! I am clearly the first on to stop at the intersection too. Its whoever is first, or the person on your right that goes first and somehow, the retarded rednecks around here seem to drive their shit cars towards a nice car regardless of the circumstance.... GOD i love the drivers of the country

oh god, dual turn lanes should be outlawed.

whenever i approach these i just assume the other driver is a f'in retard. which, sadly, is usually the case.

^^ to the NJ guys, I've driven in NJ twice in my life, and it is by far the worst experience ever. Had a tacoma the first time, got run off the road at night in the winter by a suburban. 2nd time had a tundra, got rear ended by a 2500 HD chevy. I HAD DRIVING IN NJ!

I hate people that wont keep a constant speed. You have cruise control set at 75 lets say. Someone goes driving past you. No big deal until they slow down. So you decide to pass them going 75 still. Well you get in front of them and they go flying around you. Then that repeats till the asshole gets off at his exit.
