German engineers to build "Car Loft"
German architects Manfred Dick and Johannes Kauka are about to break ground for a project that promises to be a big hit among both car and architecture enthusiasts. The "Car Loft" system features a giant elevator that brings the owner's car up to a specified area attached directly to their apartment or condo. Whether other builders around the world will pick up on this idea remains to be seen, but it sure looks cool. More photos after the jump…

Car elevator, very interesting. It seems like it'd be great to protect against theft. I wonder if this has actually been implementated anywhere yet
it seems like it wouldn't work for high rise buildings though

nice find...
hmm wonder what kind of safety and maintenance concerns are involved, I mean, elevators have problems sometimes.

That was uncalled for...
Thats pretty cool, Slightly impractical, Unless everybody has there own car elevator... Or maybe even a "spiral" ramp like in many parking garages...Just get off at your apratment... That would be pretty sweet..

I think S A CHO's idea of the sprail drive to your own little platform/driveway is better because of fuzzy's comment. If everyone was leaving for work or coming home from work at the same time, it would be a traffic jam nightmare. I think it's a great idea for loading and unloading though. I know I hate carrying shit from or out to my car from my unattached garage. What a PITA. It's a long walk.
