The only thing that makes me frustrated about the Mustang is that you cannot get the red leather in the V6 in the states according to the Ford website

I honestly don't really like the red leather option.

If it were red accents only, and not the entire seat, I think I'd like it a lot more.

It's definitely personal taste but I've always liked the dark grey/red combination (like on the S2000 for example).

I think it's the steering wheel that puts it over the top for me... My buddy has the red leather in his 07 GT and it looks pretty good with a standard black leather steering wheel.

I think it looks kinda cool, but would get tiresome really quickly.

I'd love to have black leather with red stitching or accents.

Had an awesome day today at the Mustang assembly plant (also where the Mazda 6 is built). Not only did we get to rev the piss out of the new Boss but we got to see the lead engineer have some fun in it...

It was only an engineering mule but boy did it sound heavenly

Also engineering mules:

The plant is absolutely enormous... Pictures don't do it justice...

I only snook in one crappy picture of the actual assembly line... I wish I could've brought my digital camera in

The coolest part of the day? I had a conversation with the global launch manager for the Mustang and I mentioned to him that I ordered a 2011. He took out a piece of paper, wrote down his phone number and e-mail and said to give him a shout tomorrow. He will tell me where my car is in the process, when it will be built, and he'll get me pictures of it going down the assembly line I couldn't thank him enough for that...

I can't wait to get mine!!

^ Sounds like a very cool experience, especially if the manager comes through on his offer. I've toured the Honda plant in alliston and I think it's safe to say any auto plant is rather mind boggling in scale and "cool" factor. It also sweet that your dealer set you up with this, I think opportunities like this really add to the ownership experience, it's too bad it doesn't happen more often.

Dude, that is absolutely great. Something, I'd think, you'll not soon forget.
Can't wait for you to get your car. Congrats again.

That is F'n amazing, especially if the manager comes through on his offer. It'll be like watching a baby being born. He must be a REALLY cool guy to do something like that

Only sad part is that you weren't able to visit the plant while your car was being built

Oh, and automotive engineering: Best job in the world, and hopefully my future career

Yeah, it was great... I work for an automotive supplier, so I get to see automotive assembly plants quite frequently, but going inside the one that'll be building your very own car is just awesome.

All the people there were really informative, answered any question I threw at them and loved talking about the car.

One thing that truly amazed me was that they don't build Mustangs and Mazda 6's at different times, they all roll down the assembly line at the same time. So you can have 2 Mustangs, then a Mazda, then another Mustang, then 2 Mazdas all going down the line, and all the parts are all sequnced properly from the suppliers to allow this to happen. Amazing...

Sounds awesome! I'll have to check out the pics at home, though. It would be sweet if there was a factory delivery option like there is for Vette's and BMW's. See the plant, get your car, drive it around, then have it shipped to wherever you live.

I tried to get a video on my iPhone but the car was so loud it just sounds like your in a wind storm

It had 4 exhaust tips, 2 rear exit and 2 side exit. The 2 side exits can be electronically opened or closed. They were open, it was incredible.

I didn't ask if that would be a production feature

Wow, factory cutouts? That's sweet! I've always wanted to drive a car with side exit exhaust pipes. Must sound amazing driving next to/near a wall.

That's awesome that you got to tour the plant! I would be so giddy

So... I just heard back from the gentleman from Ford and the build date for my car is November 29th, which happens to be more than 3 months after I placed the initial order

I also got the VIN number, can't do much with it now though

Damn the backup is huge. Any estimate on the delivery date? You'll probably end up getting it around January

Delivery is usually a couple weeks after production so...Middle of December at the earliest

I'm almost torn as to what I should do now... Start driving it in January or put it under a car cover until April and drive my Taurus through the winter... Damn you employee pricing in August!!

That's a tough call. If I had the garage space I might just park it. Maybe rip a few cruises on nicer days. But then again you already bought winter tires so what the hell right

Sorry man, but that post offered no help what so ever with the decision

I just asked on the Mustang forum about storing a car with 50-100 kilometers, what will happen to the "unbroken in" engine after a few months of sitting. If they can convince me that it'll be fine to store without being driven for extended periods I think I'm just going to park it. It's got a spot in the garage, that's not an issue.

What's the difference between storing a "brand new" engine in your garage or it sitting on the dealers lot for 3 months? It will be fine.

Man, you'd be driving a BMW right now if you had ordered it at the same time! Ridiculous that it takes Ford so long to build a Mustang!

Yup, would have been driving that BMW about 3 weeks ago

I've said it since I ordered, it'll take however long it takes, there's not much I can do to change that... I could've settled for a car similar to what I wanted that was sitting on a dealer lot somewhere, but I built the car the way I wanted, and with that comes the unfortunate wait time.

If I were you, I'd get it rustproofed, and just drive it on the nicer days once or twice a week during the winter and use the Taurus as your DD. Come springtime, slap on the summers, and have fun. Best part is it'll probably be broken in by then.

I dunno if I'd use it every day during the winter, some days can be nasty down here, and I can't imagine months of cold starts can be good on a brand-new engine

Sold the 5.0 today... Guy's picking it up on Wednesday...

Fun toy but the space was needed, plus I got my full asking price so I actually made a few dollars on it

Nov 29? When they hell are they going to start making the 12's?

And I'd store it. You'll take deleivery in late Dec, only have to wait about 4 months to start driving it. 3 if you're lucky.

If I'm reading your dates correctly MM/DD/YYYY, they are getting pretty far ahead of themselves IMO. For most manufacturers 2012 shouldn't start being built until like 10/2011

It looks like you'll have a nice Christmas gift for yourself!

I'd probably store it too. If it arrives late December, it's probably only three-four months until it can be driven.

This is what the dealer told me, I wouldn't be surprised if they were wrong
