I think I'm going to do something bad..........

I am going to look at another car tomorrow. I sold my boxster last summer thinking that i wanted to save that money towards the next house. Well, we refinanced and i am still saving for that next house and i have the itch.

You know what itch that is. So tomorrow i am going to look at a 99 carrera cab. Dark blue 6 speed with 75k miles and the current owner says a lot of maintenance was done in the past 2-3 years with only 3-5k miles per year driven. It also comes with a hardtop so i can drive it in the winter.

I'll be the judge of that. If it passes my test and it passes a ppi, i'll be picking it up on Friday. If not, the search continues.

And i don't have pics yet, maybe tomorrow.

I think i have an illness.

I hope it works out for you. I seem to recall you were looking at another Porsche a few months back. Seems as if the itch is still there.

Go for it, I say.

Well if you already spent the money refinancing your house, it wouldn't make a lot of financial sense to go and sell it right away would it?

And a car *is* a practical and necessary expense for most people to get around right?

Okay i'll stop. Doesn't like you need any further encouragement from us anyway. We all know how slippery this slope is.

Sorry to hear you've caught crabs again.

But seriously, I don't think a Carrera is going to help.

I understand this itch.

It makes you feel dirty after you scratch it.....yet very, very satisfied.

Yup, I've been there. Too many times, in fact.

You go get another P-car, now!

I have my latex gloves, clean latex gloves, obd-II, tire depth gauge, chamois, and paper towels to do a proper look over tonight. If all goes well i can get the ppi done on Thursday near the current owner's house. As long as there isn't anything major i'll pick it up friday am.
Luckily i have experience with them to know what to look for. The ppi will at least dig deeper than what i can do w/o my garage. That is usually the best $200 you can spend.

I may get rid of the rl and use it as my dd, that depends.

Keep the RL. Get rid of the TSX. By the way....I'm considering buying a TSX.

If you get it I will have to stop by and check it out one day.

The thing was a POS. The wheels were all curbed and faded. It needed a new rf tire and alignment. About a dozen or two door dings. Scratches from the kids walking by it. There was an oil leak and the interior was dirty. It needed a window regulator and a door handle sensor. It needed about 2k in work to get it up to my standards. It also needed an oil change.

I didn't even take it for a ride i was that removed from it.

The guy reminded me of someone who would buy it for a status symbol and not really take care of it. He had it serviced at the dealer a few times a few years ago, but those records didn't satisfy me at all.

Hershey awaits.

Ouch.

speedemon90 - I'm going to guess ppi means pre-purchase inspection.

Damn I missed this thread. Comments are great.

Sorry about the shitty car. Always sucks to see nice cars treated terribly by people and they somehow think they took care of them.

That sucks. I hate being excited about going to buy a car and seeing nothing but a disappointment upon arrival.

Be patient, there are good ones out there.

my best advice to you is to do whatever it is your wife will allow.

we are all boys with a hobby, and know that we will be making decisions with our heart, not our wallet. if shes okay with the irresponsibility of getting another porsche, then go for it.

I really wanted to buy my TL when it came off lease but my wife wouldn't go for it so I ended up leasing a 2011 Sonata. Of all the cars we looked at in a price range she was wanting, that one had the most features for the price. I ended up hating that car and resenting her a bit for not being on board with purchasing the TL which I was perfectly happy with.

Wife started seeing how unhappy I was with the Sonata and told me to get whatever I wanted as long as I could get it in the price range we were looking at. So I got one of my favorite cars of all time, a E46 M3

Side note regarding PPI's, the first M3 I looked at the seller said was well maintained and the paint and body were pristine. Had a PPI done and there was some mechanical stuff wrong as well as body damage and collision evidence. That $135 probably saved me a lot of money!

A happy wife is a happy husband. She's excited for the next p-car.

Last night was tough, i was really disappointed and could not find one positive thing about the car. There are too many things i would have to live with.

I would dodge the 99's if I was you. IMO, it's a downgrade from your old Boxster (I know on paper it's an upgrade but that doesn't always work out in real life). I would hold out for a 01 or newer if you are going the 996 route. I from the 99 Carreras I've driven, I never felt like they were that quick and felt a little soft on the suspension.
