I just got my ass handed to me by an audi s4

I just raced an Audi S4. He beat me by 2 car lengths from 0-80, and he was still pulling. I dont know who said they beat an S4, but I know for a fact its not possible. My car is still stock.

Perhaps the S4 you raced had one of the magic 50hp chips that the audis are famous for.

Actually, the S4 was probably stock. 2 car lengths to 80mph isn't bad at all if the S4 was a manual. Those things are pretty fast when well driven.

It definately was a manual. Who knows maybe i'll catch him again after the intake is installed, and see the difference the intake can make(not that I'm going to win with just an intake)

wow, at least u gave him a run. that car is fast as hell. i wanted one very badly but i am very satisfied with the cl-s. Also rember that the S4 is also about 50grand, so dont feel bad, he has to go home nowing that he almost lost to a car that was 20 grand less.

Yep, I beat one badly this summer. But it was probably the driver's fault because I got beat by an S4 at the track. But not by much...certainly not by 2 car lengths. And I can't really drive all that well (i.e. first time at the track). Top end was about 85-90.

I too almost bought an Imola S4 but it was no where near $20grand more than the CL-S. Try $39500 plus NH gracious no sales tax. FYI the CL-S would beat an auto S4. 2 car's length at 80 sounds right for someone who know's how to drive a stick turbo.
Good job stickin with him

Not true, not true. A stock CL-S and stock S4 Tiptronic have damn near the EXACT same performance numbers. It would be an interesting race to say the least. On the other hand, a former Tip owner on AudiWorld posted timeslips of 13.9 with an ECU swap and Tip chip, and a best 0-60 of 5.3s. People have claimed this in a modded CL-S, but we've seen NO POSTED TIMESLIPS so far.

ALSO, a guy that lives in my area and goes down to the track in Ennis, TX has posted timeslips of 13.1 with just a chip mod in a 6-speed S4. The CL-S will NEVER see those numbers without a SC or by cheating with some NOS. I'm trying to hook-up with the guy the next time he goes to the track to see how I'll do stock.

Your right about an auto S4 modded beating a modded CLS. Stock for stock no contest. I know I raced one. Several times with exact same results every time. Me winning. Now once he got a new chip, and intercooler the tables turned. I raced him for six week's in a row in Laconia NH, then he got his mod's.
13.1 sound's right for a stick S4. I know people that have done 12.5 here at Palmdale.
You can't compare modded to modded when discussing statio metric with turbo's

I hope to tell you that you did ok. 2 cars, auto to auto is about right. If he was stick, he should have walked away. In any case, your car ran really well. A guy on the E46 forum was badmouthing the CLS today, I called him on it, S4s blow them away too. I drove a S4 all over and almost bought one, $41,600 fairly loaded.

In Speedvision's World Challenge showroom stock races the S4 competes with the NSX. The CLS is nice, but it isn't an NSX. Granted those cars are no where near showroom stock, but it says a lot that the S4 competes with the Grand Sports cars rather than the touring cars!

Without question, the s4 is awesome. But, lets see how it holds up after 30k-40k miles. It will spend more time in the service bay than it does on the street after a couple of years. Audis are great driving European cars, just not very reliable.

Spiroh,

What did you expect? Be glad the S4 wasn't modded. I raced one here with a chip, exhaust, and dump valves.....and lost by 2(my view)-3 (his rear view mirror). They are strong stock, but a BEAST when chipped. The same guy above is prob running mid 13's with his setup.

buddha,

But that's before your intake, plus he hit it before we did so he had us by half a car to begin with. On the flip side, he'd probably have us by the same from start with the quattro (and he had a passenger). Go to s2000 forum. Some people are setting up races for this weekend.

Well, it has four doors, a twin-turbo and is $10k more than a CL-S. Not really in the same class.

Put a supercharger or turbo on a CL-S and see how the S4 holds up.

I'd have to agree, the S4 and the CLS are really not in the same class of comparrison. The S4 costs around $10k more, has 4 doors, etc. That said, it's a great piece of machinery. If I was in the market for another 4-door I'd certainly consider it.

My "other" car is an A4 2.8 quattro with tiptronic. My fiance loves driving it and after 2 years, nothing has ever gone wrong with it. Actually, we're planning to buy it after the lease is up.

That said, she can have the A4, I'm trading my eclipse spyder in on a CLS. :-)

BTW, I don't think the S4 is available in Tiptronic. My understanding (from a friend that works at VW/Audi) is that it's only available in a manual (the same with the A6/2.7T which uses the same motor), and may be available in Tiptronic next year. That's just what I've heard.

and some more interesting info..

Performance—

0–60 mph in seconds—manual/Tiptronic: 5.9/6.5
Top track speed: 143 mph1
EPA fuel economy estimates2—city/highway: 17/24 (manual), NA3 (Tiptronic)
Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP®)

may be we can hand deliver the s4's ass if it's auto, just like ours. 6.5 according to audi.

All ya need is headers!!!

the manual isn't fair game since our cars aren't offered in manual.
