The "I Hate Surfer Rick" Thread

From another thread. Plus he's busy.

Just took my Maintenance of Certification boards exam this past Saturday so I'm done with my 3 months of self-banning. 3 weeks ago I found out that the pass rate was like 98% and I had been studying for an hour every day haha but it's all good I reviewed a lot of derm.

I wanted to send y'all a PM of my new whip but apparently I can only send to 3 recipients at a time ha. Some of the boys like Tony, J and Joe already know but it's kind of a long story for the rest of you.

2011 was prolly the worst year of my life, principally because I ruptured my Achilles in May doing muay thai. This is one of those freak accidents that apparently happens to some athletes a lot more talented than moi such as David Beckham, Ryan Howard, Chauncey Billups, etc. I was practicing flying knee kicks and when I pushed off my left foot, I thought the dude next to me had accidentally kicked me. The sight of my left foot dangling was pretty sickening to say the least but I drove myself home and even stopped for takeout pizza. When I got home and the adrenaline wore off, I knew it was real bad. I had emergency surgery the next day (after seeing patients all day on one foot BTW) and was on crutches for 2 mos with 1 more month of a walking boot.

The pain can still be unbearable even 10 months later. The recovery was good, I didn't need physical therapy since I was in good shape at the time of the engine and I resumed golf, surfing, and boxing within 4-5 months of the injury and spent a week snowboarding in Aspen this Feb which was made possible by copious beers and an occasional pain killer.

Needless to say, driving my 911 was tedious at best and downright excruciating in stop and go traffic. I never realized how heavy the clutch was and my nurse knew when I drove the 911 to work because I was limping. I thought it would get better with time but 7 months later the 911 was collecting dust in my garage while I was driving my Element.

I had the opportunity to move to an F-car which was the next natural evolutionary step to me although at one time I honestly believed I would stay with the Porsche marquee forever. One of my best friends was jettisoning his 2010 Cali with 3500 miles since he already had a LP560-4 and was first in line for the 458 Spyder. As y'all know I've always been more of a hardcore sportscar guy (went from 350Z to 911) and figured I would go F430. My boy was smart though and let me borrow the Cali for a week to check it out. I called him the next day and we settled on a price I couldn't refuse, especially given that the OG owner was my boy, the car was under warranty, and the mileage was extremely low.

Although I was born and raised in HI, I never had a vert before. I wonder why I waited so long. It truly is a dream come true to be part of the Ferrari marquee when I'm still kind of young haha.

I really enjoyed driving the 997S but driving the California is an "event" and I take her out whenever there's no rain, which is most days around here. The sumptuous hand-stitched interior, the leather smell, the warmth of the sun with the top down, the looks and stares, the cascade of rifle shots as I fire the upshifts on hard acceleration, and the sublime handling are but a few joys I have enjoyed in my short 3 months of ownership. I had a couple Asian chicks follow me off the highway towards my home, one in a mini-cooper and the other in a C-series Merc but nothing serious. I should have got their digits but I was scared of getting carjacked haha. Not really.

Anyhoo, sorry for the long post. Thanks to y'all that checked in on me while I was studying and made sure I wasn't dead.

My Nero Daytona/Cuiou Cali is tastefully optioned with

Rosso Scuderia Brake Calipers
Daytona Style Seat
Electrically Operated Seats
Scuderia Ferrari Shields
Front Parking Sensors
20" Diamond Finish Sport Wheels

Carbon ceramic brakes $14000 each to replace, and you have to buy a pair LOL

Keurig Caribou coffee and pepper spray, breakfast of champions

All I gotta say is WOW. As mentioned, driving a Ferrari is an event, and I'd say the highlight of my driving life is renting a 360 modena for a day.

To own one is a dream that only a select few will achieve. Congrats!!

Holy F#%k. Looks like you've been quite busy Rick.

Congratulations on finally realizing the dream!!! I can only imagine what it feels like to even hold that key and remembering what you drive. Hopefully, I'm not far behind you, dreams are meant to be realized, right.

I hope your pain does ease with time though, I can only imagine how bad it must be knowing you were a hardcore three pedal kind of guy. But the compromise isn't so bad my friend. That is a stunning color combination, enjoy it in the best of health because it is well deserved.

Mark!!!! Whassup brotha? Seriously, the DCT is so sublime and responsive. With the Manitteno button on Sport (which it pretty much is all the time), I really don't miss the clutch at all. Now when I see traffic ahead, my left Achilles' doesn't cringe in anticipation haha. I can feel the engine pulling when I keep the revs above 3000 rpm and at about 4000 in Sport mode, the exhaust really opens up. When I accelerate over 5-6000 rpm, the sound is like a rifle shot especially in a tunnel or under the highway overpass.

May I humbly suggest for some Hamann Springs and an aggressive wheel down the road. They simply do wonders and absolutely transform the look of the Cali.

I think gen'pop would agree on this one.

Suite! How was Bali? I was supposed to go on a surf trip to Bali and Mentawais but there was the tsunami and some Al-Qaeda types sh-t so I never went. Did you enjoy Kuta and see any temples? Check out Uluwatus (famous surf spot)? Congrats again Aaron, may you have a long, happy, and healthy marriage

The car revives the "California" name used for the late-1950s Ferrari 250 GT.

IMHO for my 1st F-car I had to get red or black. The Nero Daytona is a metallic black and is easier to keep clean than flat black. The bicolore Nero and Cuiou interior is highly desirable as well. This certainly will facilitate resale down the road in contrast to colors such as yellow or light blue.

My favorite look is topless as well! I meant the car, not the chickies hehe.

Does the drop affect ground clearance? The Cali makes a wonderful daily driver because I'm not scraping the f-ck off the front like I did when I drove the Gallardo. Some guys on F-chat do the drop with H&R springs. I really like the 20" diamond finish rims on my whip though, much better than stock IMHO.
