I had a sick thought today.

I actually was thinking about replacing my Clubby with one of these:

GM put $5,100 of rebates on the car towards the lease (if you lease with ALLY - if you go with US Bank, it's $4,100), and another $2,000 on top of it if you are in a current lease of a non GM product. I did inquire about availability, it looks like there isn't a single car in stock as of yet, they are all in production, probably due in by the end of the year. Oh well. FWIW, the same rebates are on the sedan Residual and rates are the same for both. The coupe rebates are less, the rate is slightly higher, but the residual is 1% higher. It would still be cheaper to lease the 4 door, most probably.

I think this car looks awesome. I can't speak for the performance as I haven't driven it and numbers on paper can only go so far. I guess the big question to ask is, do you need it or want it. If you think you need it (ie more storage space, etc) and the costs don't outweigh the usefulness that you'ld get out of it then going for it makes perfect sense. If it's a want, well, ultimately that's up to you. The mini isn't a bad car, but if you're not happy with it, switch; otherwise, why question it.

Do IT! There are 2 wagons that have been driving around in my neighborhood (unreal, I know...white and this charcoal).....absolutely love that car. I'm trying to convince my dad that this is what my mom needs to replace her navigator with!

"Honey...the Clubman seems...bigger. Did you mod something again?"

Edited to add: I've learned from experience that this board is the wrong place to ask such a question as that implied by the OP; it's how I ended up with my current car...which I LOVE, but now have to PAY FOR.

Do I need it? Well, the extra space for storage is good for me, I like to be different too. This is why I'm opting for the Wagon over the 2/4 door. Plus, aside from my S2k I had in the past and the Lotus, every one of the last 3 cars were 3/5 door hatches.
Do I want it? What kind of question is that?

As for the Mini, don't get me wrong, it's a lot of fun to drive, I always have a smile on my face when I'm driving (except for that time I hit that monstrous pothole and destroyed my wheel/tire, and the start of the alignment/suspension issues from the mushroomed shock towers from the impact). I was planning on buying it after the lease is up, but am discouraged because of the recent incident above in parenthesis. I did everything possible to fix the mushrooming issue, but it seems like it's still a little off, though nothing is wearing prematurely, it seems. I would get another one, but I'd rather try something different, plus the last time Mini had such a good program on the Clubman was 2 and a half years ago, when I got mine. The odds of them putting another good program on it IMO is slim to none. And there's no way I'm paying more for the same car.
The Golf-R is a consideration, but unlikely it will be what I want to spend (I.E. It won't be worth the lease price to me). The V is probably going to work out a little more than double what I'm paying on my car now, which is about the only thing holding me back. Then again I probably won't see a V Wagon for at least 6-8 weeks before they start getting to dealers, so I have a little time to think about it. I also prefer smaller cars (parking's a bitch by me), so that's another thing to think about in considering this car. A lot more expensive than I'm used to, and a lot bigger too.

The instructor was overly cautious, so I couldn't really push it. I did take a 4 door on the slalom with another dude, he went down the slalom one way and I asked him why he was doing it so slow. He allowed me to push it, I was definitely going at least 20mph faster than he was, didn't hit a cone, got as close as possible and the car didn't do so much as skip a beat. I walked away impressed with that!
