Agreed... Now, if you make a claim, pay the deductible, and get it fixed all is good. Until next year when your Ins. Co. jacks up your premium. That is the real risk. So this may, in the long run, cost you more than just having the repairs done yourself and not asking for the insurance to do it. Just my

I'm just curious where all the people are who say you don't have to worry about hydrolock with a CAI? They seem to come out in masses when there is a SRI vs CAI debate going on to flame anyone who says "SRI is better so you don't have to worry about hydrolock".
I wouldn't go through the insurance company in this case. You may find your premiums go up when they find out your car is modified.

Some companies won't cover any claims (and can drop your policy) if they find out your car was modified, and that you did not report those mods to your insurance company. Just about every company here asks you if your car is modified in any way (including stereo upgrades) to have all the proper info down re: your vehicle, its worth, and for policy puporses...that is, if they'll even take you on with a modded car; some won't.

yeap, and some people really don't realize how hard it is to get enough water up there to hydro lock.
You basically have to be fully submerged and step on the gas for a few seconds. Going through a deep puddle at idle isn't going to do it. What it will do is keep the filter wet, but most of what gets sucked up will evaporate by the time it hits the throttle body.
/\ i agree. its defiantly more likely, that his problem was wet connectors, water getting into the engine bay, causing coil packs not to fire right or what not, then actually hyrdo locking the motor.
i'm willing to bet the check engine light was a fuel code or something like that, i personally WOULD HAVE NOT reset the ecu and gotten the MIL checked to see what code it was showing. but thats just me.

dont worry about it. worry about it when you car dies if u r that broke.
i have tried the funniest shit ever to avoid hydro. Last year when it was raining hard in LA, i literally had to gun it and shut up my engine when i was leaving a plaza. Good thing it was 12 am.
