I'd have to agree with most of the posts here. I love my old CL, but Acura has nothing I'm interested in now. The RL is a really nice car, but don't want a 4 door and the rest of them just leave me cold (TL is a good car, just not what I want). I'm praying that the next gen's are better looking and they come out with a decent couple/convertible before the old CL has to go. I've been a Honda lover since 1982 and can't imagine driving a different make, but they seem to be forcing me to look that way...I'm old and I want LUXURY! and looks! and I don't want a BMW! yuck

 

Your opinion is just that, yours. I think Acura will last longer than the rest, and if I were to buy one with my own money it would be the Acura. No way in hell I would buy a german car unless I was planning to sell it at about 100k miles.

 

That's completely subjective at this point, first gen G35 vs. current TL I'd tend to agree, however second gen G35 vs. TL to me is a no brainer, G wins hands down - from features, options, performance, price and styling(which is completely subjective).

I really think it boils down to old FWD vs. RWD debate, BMW does not make a single FWD car and Acura does not make a single RWD car(AWD with a FWD bias just isn't cutting it). Acura not offering V8's is hurting them and customer service from Acura to Infiniti based on my experience is no comparison. The Infiniti dealership had a luxury feel to it as where the Acura dealership had a ford feel to it, these little things really matter.

 

I think a majority of the people here tend to go through vehicles relatively quickly compared to the average consumer, I know I've never owned a car for longer then 3 years and have no plans on doing so.

Technically, BMW makes the mini cooper and Acura (Honda) makes the S2000.

Since I own an Accord, I consider Acura a luxury brand. But that's just me.

If I could pay of a used TL by December, I would do it in a heartbeat!

 

Although I think the move is intended to battle VW, I do think Acura is likely one of the reasons why BMW is supposedly considering the acquisition of Volvo.

 

Ya, but the luxury car market isn't about holding onto cars for 200k. Its about leasing a car for 3 or 4 years max.

 

It would last longer...especially considering that there is no wear-n-tear on the car after the tranny blows and the car limps home.

I love it when people say things along the lines of "i'm right because it's my opinion". I can have the opinion that my black car is actually dark red...it's an opinion...even though it's wrong. In other words, just because it's an "opinion" doesn't mean it's necessarily right.

Not saying that your opinion is wrong, but at least show something to support your "opinion".

I wasn't saying I was right, but different people expect different things from their cars. I suppose if you went to First gen CL forum and asked what was important to them. I would think reliability would be a pretty high concern. Especially when most of the members there have 150K on their cars. I would also not buy an automatic Acura, because I don't trust their trannys If we were going by your logic you shouldn't be concerned with trannys going out when they go out around 75-100k (with some exceptions.) , and you would have traded it in by then, or leased it, and the dealer would have taken care of it for free.

 

True. I just think people should buy cars based on what they like. For me, I like Acura TL because when I first saw it in person, I said to myself. "Holy shit, that's gorgeous." I had to own one and I was looking at G35c, 330ci, E500 etc., I ended up getting the TL because I like they styling. I personally think the only luxury brand to me is the Mercedes-Benz S500

 

I heard somewhere that the most popular car for millionaires is the Toyota Camry. I guess you don't make money spending it all.

I've read similar things and what's funnier is the most popular car among billionaires are Volvo's... go figure.

I think the justification behind that is when you are established and really have nothing to prove to anyone, you buy what works and could care less about impressing others.

Even if bmw doesnt consider Acura a luxury brand they are still in competition. How many people cross shop the TL and the 3 series. What about the MDX and the X5. The other day there was an article posted here saying the X3 is a waste of money get an RDX instead. Granted the RL doesnt really put a dent in 5 series sales the other cars do. Whether or not BMW accepts that is there choice.

 

1 million is nothing these days, so I believe a 1 millionaire drives a camry. But those with many millions are not driving around Toyotas or the likes, no way. Warren Buffet excluded.

Ya, but those guys dont drive. When you are that rich, you get driven around in helicopters and limousines. Unless cars are a hobby of yours, you aren't going to spend much money on them.

I've been noticing a trend lately...

a lot of thread titles these days are very misleading and the OP makes very bad assumptions when they create the thread title.

Just because BMW doesn't consider Acura a "top 5" luxury brand does not mean they do not consider Acura a luxury brand as the title assumes.

Same with the other thread about the "lexus RDX fighter"...the article doesn't even mention the RDX but the OP makes the assumption that lexus is going to take on the RDX.

But with that being said, I consider Acura a luxury brand (and people think I hate Acura). They are not a strong luxury brand considering they can't break the $50k barrier, but nonetheless they are a luxury brand.

 

Acura clearly is a luxury brand, otherwise why would Honda have even bothered selling fancier honda-built cars under a different name in the first place?

People have different standards of what "luxury" means is all, and "luxury" itself is a wide spectrum, not a yes or no question. (how luxurious does a BMW 335i seem compared to a Bentley Continental GT?)

 

 

I had a friend that I wont mentions name, or where they live, but her parents sold a bank to wells fargo, and they were multi millionaires. They drove a chevy tahoe, volkswagon jetta vr6, and a beetle turbo, cadillac eldarado, saab 95 turbo, 2 harley. Not to mention they had their own plane, a house in Canada, and Arizona. She said they would never drive a BMW, or a MB, because they didn't want to look like snobs. ( Sorry, won't thread jack anymore.)

 

Whatever happened to Jaguar? Are they even considered part of the luxury pack still? I would rank Jaguar above Acura for luxury, but definitely not reliability or looks (except the new XK)

 

Sure, its clearly a luxury brand in the eyes of Honda, and their marketing department. But what is the perception, in the public eye, of a dolled up Honda?

 

shiiiiiiiiiiit, it's all about preference. I'm a millionaire and I drive an Acura, I don't feel the need to buy myself a BMW or a Bentley to feel rich. It's all in the eyes of the beholder, I tend to think the Acura TL is far more luxurious than any BMW 3 series. Yes, the 7 series is pimp but so what? They are a dime a dozen much like the TLs today.
If I have 100M, I'd still drive this TL

 

same as has being discussed...just because it's not mentioned does not mean it is not considered a luxury brand...it is just not considered "top 5" by BMW (i guess they aren't concerned with the x or s-type taking away their sales).

 

Unfortunately, I use to always think Acura had the best bang for your buck value.

But with the inception of the new G from Infiniti, I think that they have taken the top category as the Top Band for Your Buck Value Luxury Brand.

Once Acura puts AWD on the TL then I might consider that over the G...

Its not a luxury brand because it is affordable. If Acura would bump up their prices by 5-10K, then they would be higher up on the list.

Status is about how much you paid for a car, not just the car you buy.
