I checked out the new GTO!
I stopped by our local Pontiac to have a peek at the new GTO.
First impressions:
Pro:
1) Great Seats for 4 adults
2) a mean LS-1 engine.
3) a cool dashboard.
Con:
1) tiny trunk
2) No Brembos.
3) No NAV
4) No Memory seats
5) No sunroof.
Conclusion, not worth the asking price of $32K. Maybe if it was around mid $20K... it would be worth buying.
I pass...
Nashua.

If only they kept the F-bodies around. Too bad though.
I think the GTO is a pretty nice car, but it does nothing to excite me. Sure the LS1 is a great engine, but I'll spend $10k less and get a WS6 which looks badass, unlike the GTO which looks like a 97-03 Gran Prix coupe. For the money I'd get a G35C if I wanted sporty rwd luxury/sports car. It may be a little slower, but at least it doesnt weigh 3800 lbs :o

32K for a holden with LS1. Pontiac is calling the GTO an american legend but the F*cking thinking was(still is???) made in Australia. NO WAY>Plus, 245 series tires trying to put down 350HP is never going to happen. That is porbably why they show the car peeling out in the ads....because that is all it probably does well.
Did the interior look as cheap in person as it does in pictures?

I checked out the GTO at a local dealership here in Columbus last month and was kinda shocked at what I heard. The salesman said that since the GTO is going to have limited production, they had to do a LAI (limited availability increase). There is only one option on the GTO and that is the 6 spd manual transmission. With that option the car is roughly $34k. With the LAI, this dealership marked them up $5k taking it to $39k. I asked the salesperson when they received their first one and he said a month previous to my visit. I then asked how many had they sold up till my visit = none. They had 6 on their lot at that time. How do you mark up a vehicle you haven't sold and you have 6 of them on your lot? Oh yeah...no test drives either. So while I was there, I called another Columbus area Pontiac dealership. No LAI and yes, they are doing test drives on the car. The salesperson (whom was standing next to me) was speachless. I left and said that I would never do business with them. Just kind of a funny story.

It looks like an over-sized Cavalier on the outside.
Sat in one in the showroom. Had a $2,000 price premium on it, so $35k.
Seats were decent, dash and console area actually LOOKED decent (a first for Pontiac) although as soon as I touched the climate controls, the reality of the cheapness set in.
I'm sure it's fun to drive, but the clutch was heavy as fuck just working it with my foot in the showroom, so it wouldn't be a fun daily driver at all.
Also, no sunroof or removable hardtop panel.
For $35k? Hell no. $28k and it'd be considerable (assuming the clutch was decent and the exterior was attractive).

V8 always has potential. Has anyone seen one of these on the road? If I had never seen the rest of GM's line, it would be good looking but after seeing the Cavalier and every other weaksauce body design from GM, it's too similar. The car on its own though is pretty good looking. It's like dating a beautiful girl and you look at her family. The family is huge and you wonder if she is adopted because they are all homely as shiznits. I have been to a few dealer lots and they all seem to have automatics and never got sticks.

Your playing in a unfair sandbox here. The LS1 has WAY more of an aftermarket than our 3.2 (or your stroked 3.5l)...
You talking crazy man!

GM priced it way too high, and the dealerships are pricing it even higher. A yellow one at a dealership back home has been sitting there for months, and same with the black one here at school. Idiots. If people don't see it on the road, then it doesn't increase the interest in the car. The longer the cars sit on the lot, the more people think it's an unattractive car. I don't understand how some of these dealerships stay in business, given the way they practice... oh, yeah, 50-dollar conventional oil changes and conning their customers into changing parts they don't need.
The GTO is a nice car, but I would rather go out and pick up an '02 WS6 and mod the hell out of it. Nothing says "Get the fvck out of my way" more than a WS6 pushing 450rwhp, purging nitrous through the hood nostrils.

How much money did you spend on mods?
Put that same amount in the GTO and my money is on the v8.
