I really need to buy a decent guage... I've got a pencil tire guage, that has served me well, but I'm sure it's not that acurate... (but it's better then nothing).

My habit is to do it when im filling up the gas. While its pumping i check the tires. If i need air then I can get it there.
You guys would be shocked how often you need air even if it doesnt LOOK like you do.

That doesn't make any sense to me and there seems to be a real flaw in that theory. You inflate tires to COLD pressure. Checking the tire pressure while you fill up won't give you accurate readings because so many factors play into your tire pressure after you've started driving (ambient temp, miles driven, how hard you've driven, etc.) You should always check your tire pressure when your tires are cold, i.e., while you are washing your car.

Good point, forgot to mention my gas station is very close(dont even go about 25mph to it). I go to the same one every time. i hope my tires dont heat up that fast within that sort distance but they could.

I check mine on the first of the month, I just go to the garage and check the fleet out - gauge tires and check the oil on all of the cars.
Air retention will vary a lot by temperature swings and brand of tire being used - once a month is a very safe bet for most people and unfortunately is more often then 99% of the motorists on the road check things out.

How do you guys air them up? I never have spare change for the air pump at the station. Plus I hate dropping the coins in, then rushing around in a panic to air all the tires up before the time has expired, dragging the hose around the underside of my car.
If the air happens to be free, the hose has typically been vandalized.
So I use an old bicycle pump in my garage. Good exercise, I suppose.

Everytime I wash, which is at least once a week. I hate the way the front tires look under load, so I probably inflate them too much. Plus, when I armor-all the tires, I always have to move the car about two feet so I can get the entire tire. Does anyone else do that??

Not that often anymore since I need new tires, but I used to check them everytime my steering wheel was a little firmer to turn in either direction than usual. If the tire pressure is off a little on either side, it will affect the steering just a tad.
