how many of you have a speeding problem

so, i have a VERY VERY hard time doing the speed limit these days. i've only had one speeding ticket, when i was 21. i constantly find myself driving 80-90mph on i-state. i know it's a dangerous & stupid thing to do, but i just can't seem to help myself. i will not go much, if ever, than 90mph anymore. i remember when i was young i'd do like 120-130 in my honda accord. of course, i was an immature dumbshit back then. i know better now -- just nothing seems to stop my speeding mentality. i'm curious ... how many of you out there are similar in a way?

I am.... But over here, the speed limits were set in the 1950's and have not changed since. So most roads are 40 - 60 Km/h, and I will do 60 - 80 Km/h. Now on the expressway (80 Km/h) I'll routinely do 100 - 110, but that is controlled entry exit, good weather, etc... And no, no speeding in very populated areas or small neighborhood streets.

No one in California drives the speed limit on the freeways, so I'm certainly not going to if I dont have to.

Local roads I try and keep in check. residential and school zones I do the speed limit or lower.

All very easy in the pathfinder. Sometimes in the challenger on a very straight and empty stretch its hard to not listen to the car and want to floor it.

Usually 5 over for surface streets, unless its residential in which case its the speed limit if not lower (especially when kids are present, the kids in my neighborhood were apparently never taught to look both ways ).

On the highway its usually 10 over, in some ares where the speed limit is low for no reason I do 15 over. Most of the time though its whatever traffic around me is doing.

usually I go 5 over or I go at the speed limit, no more, no less. Only variation is if I'm late for something, or if I'm tired. I enjoy driving and I'm really patient unless I'm late and there's traffic.

It depends what you call a speeding problem.I'm usually always 10-15 over on the interstate and usually about 5 on streets. That is slightly over the limit and often with the flow of traffic.

I do. The people around here drive way too fast on my street. They're going to kill a little kid at some point.

If I'm driving alone, I stay 5-15 mph above the limit, but usually within the flow of traffic.

Personally, I don't count 5-10mph over the posted speed limit on non-residential roads/streets as speeding...especially when I'm pacing the flow of traffic.

My speeding habit has gradually subsided as I've gotten older, had kids and secured a pretty impressive insurance rate. On highways I do tend to cruise @ 80-85mph, with occassional surges to 100 mph+ on longer trips where I want to make some time. However, I do pick my spots carefully when making those 100 mph sprints.

I rarely see anyone in CA going the speed limit. I will not speed in school zones and other areas where the ticket prices are jacked up (Golden Gate Bridge, Construction zones). Otherwise people are always on your ass

Until 1-2 years ago, I always had this urge to go fast on the freeways. I didn't like the fact that anyone is in front of me blocking my way. Yes, I was pretty immature when it came down to driving a car.

But, these days, I don't know. A majority of my time on the freeway, I put the car on cruise control @ like 70 mph, then that's it.

I do sometimes go crazy for like 5 seconds, like downshifting to 4th and go WOT til like 110 mph, then just brake down to 70 mph again. But this is VERY RARE for me these days. I got older I guess.

I'll probably start hitting the tracks around this summer, so if I get that urge ever again, at least I have a chance to unleash that at the track.

On the local streets, I just drive +5 mph over limit. That's it. I figured that getting a speeding ticket on the local street is pretty embarrassing actually.

Come to San Jose, almost everyone goes 55-60 on the 880 when the limit is 65.... At leas that's how it was when I go to school.

I don't think I'll ever get a speeding ticket *knock on wood* I get nervous even on the 5 or on the two lane roads like when you drive to Vegas or Tahoe. It's out in the boonies and you almost never see any police cars but...

It was also appalling to me when I met a guy who was a couple years older than me but he had eight speeding tickets you think he'd learn after the 3rd or 4th one. Even when I first started driving, I didn't really have the urge to speed

i find myself going over all the time, regular speed limit is 60 km/hr and i constantly go in the 70-80 range
but on highways i tend to stay close to the limit, in 100km/hr zones, i go 114, no more, no less, apparently they pull you over at 115, and here, radar detectors are illegal

75-80 on highyways, so that would be 10-15 over. there is a back road i take to go home. speed limit 40; my speed 55-80 with no traffic, there are some truly great sweeping turns. but normally 5-15 over on all roads

Should be noted I never speed through school or work zones. It pisses me off when some soccer mom in a minivan is tailgating me through a school zone when the lights are flashing 20 mph. If those were her kids on the sidewalk and some fool went flying through, she would be PISSED. But because they aren't her kids, she doesn't give a flying fuck.

Driving fast on the freeway is not fun, its the street where I can rev my 6 speed manual up and down that is fun. I dont even try to keep up with people on the freeway, way too many speed merchants out there to run you over.

Not sure what to vote so I voted "only sometimes".

Over time I've realized that unless you're traveling a longer distance, speeding doesn't really get you to your destination that much quicker... so I just chill now. I usually keep it about 5 over on local roads, and about 10 over on interstates/highways. Cool thing is that the interstate is mainly 65 around here (except in a few spots closer to the city), and when driving out to the mountains or beach, it's 70... so I do not find I need to speed excessively.

I speed way too much, however I don't weave in and out of traffic as much anymore..i hate how people find me flashing my high beams offensive though, never speed on back roads either..pretty much open fast lane driving

oh and try using your cruise control more, it def saves me from having urges to gun it most times..and helps my gas mileage out a little bit as well haha

When I had my CL-S I got two speeding tickets in 5 years. Now that this has been stolen and I am back to driving my VW Bus I don't need to be concerned about speeding tickets.

I only speed when I think it's safe and reasonable to do so. Some people like speeding and weaving during commute, but I find it's way too crowded to do so safely.

During commutes I tend to fall back and leave plenty of space between myself and the guy in front of me. I know tailgating and weaving will only save me a minute at most, but will cause me stress and possibly an accident.

I don't speed in residential areas or anything cause the last thing I need to do is hit a kid or something. Sometimes I have a hard time keeping my speed down on main city streets when it's completely obvious the speed is artificially low.

I've been keeping the speed down a little more lately cause I've gotten hit by LASER and I got lucky a few times.

I can't go anywhere on my motorcycle without speeding. In my car I very rarely speed because most of the time I'm not in a rush and speeding in a car doesn't "do it for me" any longer after riding a motorcyle.

I try to keep it around 70...I drive in the right lane and am a frequent user of brake checks

I learned my lesson after sitting in drivers school for 8 hours surrounded by tons of middle aged pricks who ran red lights and are pissed that they have to pay the consequences...

I have a huge speeding problem. Every once in a couple/three/four years, I get pulled over for going 71mph on the freeway. FML.

driving at 80 isn't any more fun than driving at 70 for me. I stick to the two right lanes... I have more fun going down the offramp or going on the freeway, engine screaming as I downshift and slow down or accelerate.

Nothing like a perfect revmatch to 2nd with the exhaust on full bore.

Driving in San Jose can be maddening. I commute from S. SJ to Sunnyvale and it sucks hard. I often just take San Tomas Expy cause people suck at merging on 85 so there are always major slow points (1/3 lanes being carpool sure doesn't help either). I've always found people drive like snails on 17/880. You really cannot go any faster than 70 much of the time. Honestly I find the only time I even have the option of speeding is REALLY late on 85 when it is deserted (like 2 am... I've been the only car on 85 for miles at that hour).

Isn't there always traffic? I don't spend too much time in SJ but I know it is a bitch to get down there in the mornings and leave at night when I do have to work down there. Only time I can ever get close to the speed limit is on 101S just after Daly City

i dont speed in areas that are 35 and under which are residential areas/school zones/ places with pedestrians. but once on the highway i cannot stand doing the speed limit or 5 over. even in 65 zones i cant sit still going 70 or 75.
actually it really depends on the car im driving, in my girlfriends corolla 75 seems really fast and 80 is pushing the limit. but my car, 90 is smooth as butter and normally im cruising 80-85mph.

yup, all true. the big problem is that even when there's not traffic, people drive as if there is traffic. The 880/101 interchange loop and the area after that is bad also, well 101 is just bad period. Still doesn't compare to LA though, I drove there a few times and I was sick of it within days
