How Many Miles?
How Many Miles?
I just had this idea pop into my head and I was curious about how much people drive and how long they tend to keep their cars.
I'm a week shy of my one-year anniversary with my SF and though it started out rocky, things have vastly improved. I'm right at 18,900 miles right now and plan on adding many more.

85,000 rl
97000 tsx
142,000 4runner
I typically buy my cars at the sweet spot of depreciation where i don't lose much money if i had to sell in a year or two. That sweet spot varies upon model and a few other factors.

Round at 112500 and 212500.
Portland, my data point shouldn't count b/c I plan to keep it until almost it's dead, at the least. 44k on Legend #2. It had 27k when I bought it Dec 4, '10. Legend #1 was bought at 114k in '03 and sold at 191k this past Feb.

Which one?
'11 Fusion: ~9500
'07 TL-S: ~53,000
'05 Mustang: ~76,000
'02 TL-S: ~105,000
On average, over the past 5 or 6 cars that we no longer have, we keep cars about 4.1 yrs and about 68,000 miles. But that includes 4 repmobiles which get swapped on avg at ~2.5-yrs and 66,000 miles.

I used to drive a lot but not anymore.
Since I don't put much miles on my car, I'm planning to pay off my car and keep it for a long time as DD.
I'll pick up something in 3 years.

170,000 '97 Acura CL 2.2
140,000 '08 Ford F250
54,000 '07 Chrysler Pacifica
I drive my cars until they start giving me problems. I never would've thought I'd have the Acura as long as I've had it but it doesn't give me any problems. Same with the F250, sure it doesn't have a GM 5.3L but it'll easily last over 200K miles.

2000 M5 - 121k miles. Bought it a little over 2 years ago with 101k on it. Probably won't get rid of it for a long time
2005 Denali - 24.5k miles. Bought it a little over 3 months ago with 22.5k on it. Hopefully I don't get bored with it in the next 4 years. With the amount I drive now it should last a lot longer then I'll probably want to keep it.

2008 Acura TL - 86K miles. I bought it 4 months ago with 72K. I will average 40K to 45K miles on it a year.
2003 Nissan Pathfinder SE - 103K mile. Bought it 5 years ago with 52K miles on it. We average about 9500 miles a year on it.

^ That's a lot of driving. How long do you expect to keep the TL? Certain age or mileage, or just whenever it starts to give you problems?
