How long does gas stay good in gas cans?

I know that gas can stay in a cars tank and stay good for weeks maybe a few months, but what about gas thats in gas cans?

I have almost 10 gallons that are about 3 weeks old that are left over from the Hurricane, I figured I might as well and put in my car?

Absolutely fine.

I store up to four thousand liters of gasoline for several month at a time without a problem.

No, I'm not telling anyone where I live.

As long as it's sealed tight you should have no worries. It's the same as it sitting in a car for that amount of time or longer.

What if it has ethanol? Doesn't that shorten the shelf life?

Why not? The gas prices are very volatile. If you are capable of storing gas in some place, you should do it.

the gas in those gerry cans is probably good for 6 months, put some stabil in it and it'll last longer.

Your ok. You can store gas anywhere from 3 months on. However it does depend on how it's stored.
3 weeks is nothing.

I've heard that you shouldn't store gasoline longer than 9 months. The reason? I'm not sure. It may have to do with impurities separating. I'm not positive.

When gas was skyrocketing, the local Fire depts in MA were strongly encouraging people not to store large supplies of gas. If a fire broke out, your totally screwed.

My guess is that Terry doesn't keep a bunch of cans in the barn, he probably has a real holding tank.

You're right, I order thousands of liters of gasoline and diesel at a time. And as black label has mentioned, it is properly stored in double wall thousand gallon tanks. I have found that left untreated, gasoline will last for several months. Diesel, almost indefinitely.
