a few hours, but to totally master where I can roll up and down the hills for fun.. 2 weeks . It's fairly easy my friend, best of luck.

I had never driven a stick until I bought my GTO. I pretty much sucked too. The sales lady was petrified and trying to talk me into the automatic...

By the time I got home, I prayed I made it through rush hour traffic. It took me a couple of weeks to get good and used to it.

lol, the first time you drove a stick was during a test drive?!??

When I was test driving the TL the saleman asked if I knew how drive a manual because he had a couple people who didn't know and were test driving it(the 6sp)

It took me over a month to really get the feel for the 6-spd in the 'V'. I'm about 11 months out now and still think there's room for improvement...as shown by my ever-faster 1/4 mile times.

i learned how to drive on a stick- my first car was a 97 eclipse spyder turbo. Took me about half an hour on level roads and about 8 stalls on the first hill i came to. I was so embarassed because there were people watching and laughing. I havent had a manual tranny since that car because atlanta traffic is the suck but damn I miss it.

I learned how to drive a standard (not a stick) in a F150 Ford, 1972 model year on the rez when I was 14. We could drive w/o a license in a lot of places b/c NY police had no jurisdiction there (that has changed). The pickup was a 3 on the column w/ reverse on the bottom right. Didn't take long to learn really.

i've had my car for like 6 months and i'm still not good at driving stick. then again, i've got a tripple plate exedy race clutch with a super light weight flywheel (it's all part of the clutch) so it's hard to take off smoothly off the line as it's very very off and on, i haven't learned to heel-toe it smoothly at all yet..then again, it's a race car so who cares?

I'm about to learn this weekend

I'd like to get a bike one day and someone told me that I better learn how to drive a stick first. Is it true?

I learned on a dirtbike before I learned on a car. Maybe that's why I didn't have much trouble with the stick. Anyway I found the bike to be easier.

I've had my 2006 legacy gt 5mt for 3 weeks and I'm still learning how to make it smooth.

It took me about a week to be comfortable in any situation.

It took me about 30 minutes. I learned over 20 years ago in a Pontiac T1000 (chevette). It was, by far, the easiest stick I ever drove

Took me almost a month to get it smoothly.

I learned on my 02 330ci and i couldnt even drive it home from the dealer. I had a friend do it.

That night i tried to drive it and was sooo pissed that i just wanted to return it. Which was weird since i drove my buddies civic the day before and had no issues. BMW clutch was just a pain.

I had people laughing at me at stop lights when i kept stalling out my brand new bimmer.

I learned on a 84 RX-7.. That car was A LOT of fun. It took me once driving by myself to get the feel of it. I didnt actually have my own stick till I bought a 97 accord that was a stick. I can say that EVERY car has a different feel to it.
The main thing is not to get intimidated by it. Youll get it, its just gonna take time. I do suggest though that once you beat up a car learning on it and then you move on to something else. Dont teach too many people to drive stick. Youll hate yourself for it after you have to replace your clutch.

Sometimes I hate driving stick, but mostly in rushhour stop and go traffic. It gets kind of annoying. But I think that if I went to an auto and had to drive it everyday, it would frustrate me. I think I would miss driving a stick way too much...

Good luck

You drive a Honda Accord. What is the need to learn how to "heel-toe" in your Honda Accord?

somebody has been watching WAAAY too much Fast and the Furious.

As for taking some time to learn a manual I say most people will get used to it in about 2-4 weeks. This is especially true if you're driving in bumper to bumper traffic and having to get going from a stop, switching to 2nd, and starting all over again often.

Good luck with the learning! It'll become instinctive onec you get the hang of it.

Why would you make a dumb comment like that? Who cares what car he drives. Heel-toe technique can be used on any car with a manual transmission and is used to provide smoother downshifts in daily driving.

yah but cars with too much Torque is also much harder to learn with. Newbies usually step too much gas and not release enough cluth and they get scared cuz it has too much torque...(TOO FAST FOR THEM )

agreed. It is much more fun/smooth/SAFE coming out of a corner within the right gear. taking a sharp turn at 40 mph in 6th gear could be very dangerous....

its kinda crazy really... no one taught me how to drive stick... and i never had practice... ive just observed quietly and asked questions of things that i wasnt sure about... one day my dad bought a car that was stick and he took off with my uncle somewhere leaving the car at home.... i found the keys and booked it!... i only stalled once (forgot it was stick).. but other than that i drove that thing smoothly without any help! to me!
