Hate seeing stuff like this. Disgusting photos.
Most of folks rolling to/from AC on the GS Parkway at night are probably going to fast to notice the herds of deer lining the grassy shoulder of the highway. To this day, I'm still surprised that they've yet to be spooked onto the highway en masse.

Now just imagine if that had been a 180 pound man. I once came upon a man who had been hit (hit and run) on Columbia Pike in Arlington, Va. His right leg was torn almost completely from his body and his right foot was up against his head. The only thing holding his leg to his hip was some skin and a little muscle tissue. When I went by, a few people were just starting to come out of their apartments to see what had happened. No police or emergency vehicles had arrived when I went by and there was a rather large amount of blood under and around his body (obvoiusly because his femur artery had been ripped apart).

Now before any of you get on my case about not stopping, my family and a young family friend were in my car and it was very obvious the man was already dead. And there were a few people coming out to see what had taken place.

Reminds me of when a semi truck hit about 4-6 deer a few years ago in Loudoun County Virginia. Deer were flying through the air; thrown into on coming traffic, etc. About 4 cars ended up with damage and everyone was covered in deer blood. Gruesome. Luckily no one (other than the deer) was killed.

This was in 1987 as I recall and I didn't have a cell phone. It was a business/residential 4-lane road, speed limit of 35. I was in the inside lane heading into Arlington and the victim was in the out-of-Arlington lanes, about ten or twelve feet from me as I passed by. Since there were some people coming out of their apartments to see what had happened, I figured that at least a few of them would be calling the police. Had the man just been injured, I certainly would have stopped to try to help out (I have done this before).

A few years ago, my oldest daughter called me while she was heading home from work (she supervised three therapy departments in a hospital) to tell me she just passed by a man who had been hit by something (another hit and run) and he was dead. A truck had already stopped to direct traffic away from the body and had called 911 but he and my daughter were the only ones there. I asked her how she knew he was dead (she had said that there was virtually no blood and he was just lying there. She told me he was definitely dead because his brain was lying next to him about two feet from his head. She was as calm as can be telling me this.

I hit a deer once at about 105 mph. Replaced a hood, radiator support and a windshield (from the corner of the hood hitting it and cracking it). I was passing a few cars and just as i got to the first car (or last depending on how you look at it) BAM came running out. Similar thing happened to my dad. Only he was going about 20mph faster I personally know a guy who has hit over 26 deer (he lives up by our cottage, near where i and my dad hit them)

Oh and this is what it looks like when you hit a Moose

I have been lucky with the deer I have hit. None have caused more than $3k in damage. When I called my insurance to make a claim they would always go, "Did you hit a deer?" "Yes. How'd you know?" "Well, I see you live in Wimberley." Motorcyclists around here are either tourists or foolish.

There was a man from Houston driving through the hill country that hit a deer, and it came through his windshield. As he sat in the ditch strapped by his seat belt, the deer kicked him to death. Freaks my cousin out when he comes out here from Houston. "No street lights?!?"

We have tons of deer too, and turkeys. Hit one of those and its like hitting a 20+ lb bolling ball. I saw one once go thru the radiator of a f150 and punch a hole in the block

^^^No shit. That is crazy Terry. I wasn't making a joke when I mentioned motorcycles in the hill country. It is serious stuff when it happens. Unfortunately for Texans, helmets are optional.

I'm glad you made it to this point. I have appreciated many of your wise posts. Thanks Connie.

There is no amount of OxyClean that would ever get me back in that truck again.

It's totalled as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks. In the end it was all good. Except for the death of the deer and Connie stopped riding after witnessing my accident. It's something I never wish to happen again, but I don't lament that it happened either.
