Thanks! I really wished for a manual, but this is what I got blessed with, so maybe a stick in my next convertible...

My twisted automotive cousin. Update on the SLK? I can't say anything about the SLK, but my Crossfire is probably the funnest car I've ever driven. I have the 320 engine, so I'm not Kompressed. The SRT-6 however has the SLK32 AMG engine. On crossfireforum.org there are SRTs running 11's. I've only seen 1 SRT on the street in my whole life. I could probably count on both hands the amount of NA Crossfires I've seen. SLK looks like a lot of fun!

Kinda Qwik Update...

1. I cannot wait to drop the top again and again and again... I have raced a rainstorm to keep the top down... most fun trip was a jaunt up to Dallas with the top down the whole way (about 4 hrs of low 80's temp)...

2. The sound of this car is amazing!!!! I love the whine of a turbo, but this supercharger is on from the word go.... But, I must say its not really fast off the line... once you get going, its like woooah! I have not driven a V6 or 8 SLK, so my experiences are limited to my kompressed 4 banger...

3. Replaced the coolant reservoir and tightened a few screws under the hood... so far its been a real "hands off" experience... when I have a few days off, I am gonna change the drive belts and the oil...

4. getting about 33.3 mpg... and I don't baby her at all... WOT on all the on ramps... ... it does well enough on gas, that I forget to go to the gas station sometimes...

5. there are some crazy guys who have shoehorned a SLR motor into a SLK... total freakin insanity on the road!

6. Your so rite, most of the Crossfires I see around here are just chillin'... I have never seen an SRT... I bet that sounds and looks sick!

7. Mods for these cars are hella expensive, so I am just doing cosmetic refurb with OEM parts.... I would be better off just buying an AMG SLK, which I would like to do eventually... and just leaving this one alone... but I am gonna keep her too... she's paid for...

8. I have driven her so much that I haven't taken alot of pics of her... I will have to do better and add some in the near future... do you have any good shots of your Crossfire? if so, shoot some my way!

Thanks for dropping by Cousin Allen and showing some interest over here!

Rick

I have a friend that has a C230 Kompressor and the engine does sound really good. I thought it had an odd noise at first, but the more I listened to it, the better it got.

Now I'm kind of wondering if I should've test drove a Crossfire Roadster. The hardtop on the SLK would've been nice though... There isn't hardly any aftermarket support for the Crossfire, and the parts that are there are expensive. Speaking of the SLR motor, there is a guy on the Crossfire forum that has put a V8 from a 2002 CL500 in his.

I'm getting okay gas mileage, it usually averages 23.5/24.6. A far cry from the 230 motor. Even if you can't find a 32AMG, I think the SLK320 would be a nice upgrade till you can find an AMG. The gearing in the Mercedes transmission is excellent. It may not be the quickest off the line, (actually many complain the first gear is too short on the 6MT) but it certainly doesn't give out after 100. It just keeps going and going and going.

Talking about outrunning the storm reminds me of the Mercedes commercial for the SLK350. Its on YouTube, check it out.

Get some pics of the SLK up! Here are a few of the Crossfire:

Interior look familiar?!

^ Thanks for the pics man! I looked at them and commented a long time ago, but my computer at work is a pc of junk and my post didn't go thru... and that interior is almost a carbon copy of mine... albeit, more refined and I like the stainless finish better than all the painted vinyl in mine...

I know its really late, but I have been really busy and I am still up, partly b/c I am still somewhat upset that someone hit my Merc today in the front while I was parked at costco and just took off... bent my hood in two spots, completely mashed in the large merc star in the front intake and scratched the front lower bumper... thanks be to God that it wasn't any worse!

I am gonna go by costco tomorrow and query them on if they can pull the security camera tape, so I can at least let someone known what happened... and yes, since it is private property, I am just gonna have to eat the repair or file it on my insurance as a hit and run... rude, ugly acting people just kill me! Thats all, goodnight yall! Rick

UPDATE:

I am fully boosted!!!

My Supercharger is working crazy good!!!

The K40 Relay is the Achilles heel of the SLK, like the main relay is in the CL... two solder points later, I am flying along the road and actually spinning the rear tires... micro hesitation and the CEL is gone... I am so happy!!!!

I did the repair today... did it so fast (20 to 30mins) that I was able to cook dinner while I was doing it... my thanks to the slkworld.com and benzworld.com peeps who shared pics and advice... now I just need to work out why the devil my brake lite is still on!!!!!

congrats!!! I'm over on benzworld and slkworld under the same name here...mine looks indentical to yours except sunburst yellow. AWESOME cars!!! One of the most reliable engines mercedes has produced in a long time....get on that MAF relocation...cheap. easy, and opens up that 2-3k rpm zone where the supercharger lag is the worst...

I hate that the vinyl "leatherette" paint comes off so easily...still have not found an effective solution, but they seemed to have fixed that with the crossfire, and the interiors do look remarkably similar....(obviously....)

ENGINE and BRAKES update

1. after I redid the K40 relay, i threw an o2 sensor code and after a few days, I reset it and it hasnt come back on... maybe its on its way out or it had some deposits from my barely used,m but now full steam supercharger getting all over it... will wathc the dash for the CEL... about to go have the car inspected... It should pass now!

2. Brake wear sensor light was on... I pulled all 4 wheels and visuallly inspected the rotors and pads (which still look new) I also removed the sensors (they are only on the front brakes).. one of them was grounded on the rotor because it was installed incorrectly!!!!

Makes you mad when normal stuff is done wrong.. on the test drive the mechanic did NOT notice the light was still on??? come on now! My father in law said it had been on since he got the brakes changed... I am so glad that I am working on the car now and not that guy...

BTW... the sensor is abt 4 to 7 bucks

UPDATE:

1st real mod for my R170...

My headliner was made of light grey vinyl and started to fall down during the summer... so I wanted something different to replace it... sooooooo I removed the old one and had it re-covered at a shop down the street... in red that matches the interior... it took a couple hours... looks so good in person... let m know whatcha think... I will install it tomorrow and shoot some more pics....

Rick

BTW these are camera phone pics, so forgive me....

this looks and feels so much better!

Old headliner material on the right so you can see how much pop this will add...

its actually brighter than the pic shows...

Nice Rick! I like it! It actually reminds me of the G8 GT interiors I've seen lately. Gotta start shopping for a 4 door. Little Trooper on the way. Anyway, I love the red and it'll look killer with the silver exterior. Lovin it!

Haha thanks Rick! I'll tell the wife the kind words

Yeah, the G8 has definitely caught my eye. Plus the GTs only came with automatics, so the wife could drive it too. We'll see, she seems on board, so it might be sooner than later!

Thanks again, bro!

Yeah, the G8 has definitely caught my eye. Plus the GTs only came with automatics, so the wife could drive it too. We'll see, she seems on board, so it might be sooner than later!

Thanks again, bro!
Awesome... a win-win!

Let me know when the wind is gonna be whistling by all 4 doors!

I like the color of the new headliner, Rick. That really should give your interior "pop".

And Trooper, congrats on the upcoming little trooper! Definitely changes your life so you need a 4-door sports sedan.
