She's just a click over 100k... my FIL was the second owner... its been well maintained which I am super excited about... I cannot think of anything that really major she needs, mostly very minor cosmetic stuff... I drive about 10 to 15 k a year, so I think as a 3rd car she will fare pretty well!
Have you owned one of these before or know anyone who has had one?
I'm afraid of German cars. It has been over 15 years since I've owned one however. We used to drive primarily Audi's and VW's. Loved the cars hated the upkeep. I know things have changed but my wounds remain.
The SLK fascinates me because of size, looks and the hardtop convertible. A friend leased one, put 20-25K on it over 4 years and turned it in. I was tempted to buy it but... My third car remains my 93 delSol, on which I have put 135k. Not an SLK by any stretch but fun for me and it will have to do.
Best of luck, I'm sure you will enjoy the baby Merc.

LOL... thanks alot!

I have wanted a German car for years, but have always ended up with American Iron or an Asian Ride... I am wading in carefully... because I can already see I have alot to learn about even finding which part goes to which car... since MB has a global market, there are 4 or 5 versions of my SLK with some significant differences in their internal parts... ... but I am learning quickly to use my vin to look up what I need in a special MB owner site.
I am encouraged by the peeps on slkworld.com... they seem to be having more fun DRIVING, than working on their cars... I will need to start building a good set of metric tools pretty soon...

MR1,
... if you drive a R170 or R171, you will be trying to buy it... I have always loved the sliding rear window in the Del Sol... those are pretty rare cars now?... I have always loved them, but usually needed a back seat when I found one that looked good!

Congrats Rick! I didn't see this thread earlier. It's going to be nice riding with the top down, once it gets a little warmer of course. Good luck with it!!!

HaHa, I have an addictive personality. I purposely have not driven a six speed TL or any number of other cars. I don't need to know first hand what I'm missing.
A few months back I mistakenly test drove an S2K. I came very close to buying a car that I would not drive more than a few thousand miles per year.
If I had an inlaw selling something I was interested in, this would be my thread. Again, enjoy!

This is the only 2 seater I have ever had. Never a problem, only 2 can go. Of course we also have other transportation. Tell me again how many does the SLK seat?

I still see a number of them in my area though most are very modified. They are fun to drive but not very fast. A group gets together every year in Las Vegas. There were about 200 last year. I went once years ago. THey are currently selling for $1500-$4000.

My last 2 seater was a 300zx (1984 or 85???) which I loved, but she jumped her timing belt and had to hit the road...

UPDATE
Hi yall... I am so tired, but we went to AR and got my SLK over the weekend... an almost 400 mile ride was quite the test for her.... real qwik impressions, cuz I gotta go watch a movie and drink some coffee with my huni...
PROS: great gas mileage, sounds great, qwik acceleration, great stereo... head turner everywhere on the road...
CONS: tires are loud on so, so roads, seats have almost no cushion, I have to get used to no back seat (again) for storage, CD changer is in the trunk...
For a 10 year old car, I couldn't be happier... or feel more blessed!
Will give more info and pics when I get rested up... stay tuned...

Congratulations again. 400 miles? Better you than me.
I did a total 800 miles with a friend in his 535 over the weekend.
Nice car however my butt has almost no cushion. I think I'm getting old.

800 miles... thats like woah! But in a 535 that should have been pretty chill.... at least I hope so... whats up with no meat on the seat?????
one thing I can say is my BIL's 745i was soooooo comfortable on long runs... and fast too... I have driven a 535, but just around town for a while...
and at almost 45... I am starting to feel it some days...

Here are some pics I just took... It was too dark out for good shots (these are terrible), but I tried... better, later... so here we go....Plus I gotta get some top down pics too...
...ENJOY!
I liked this 1st shot b/c the lighting is soooo low...
Better lighting....
The Brilliant Silver Metallic looks so much better in person... and I love the exterior / interior contrast.... she needs an excellent pro level detail correction....

Yea, and I have 15 years on you. We went to Las Vegas for the CES. The 535 is fast and has comfortable seats. The problems were that the seat sits pretty low compared to my TL and I could not figure out how to raise it much. Also, the Germans have their own idea how the heating/cooling should work. My friend isn't much on reading instructions. The heat or the A/C were on full blast, nothing in between. No meat = weight redistribution over the last five years or so, strange. Still, a good trip.
Mike
Mike
I know that was a great trip!!!
I laughed my butt off about your friend... my BIL had "fair" knowledge of his 7, so it was a similar situation when we went anywhere!!! We would have the car heat on full blast with the seat a/c on high .... OMG!

Car looks great, exterior and interior.
Is that an auto shifter?
Do you know how to work your heater/AC in the Benzo?
I read directions on my stuff if I can't figure it out.
But Acura is only a little better. Anyone know the correct use of our
cargo net?
Hate it when stuff is smarter than me.

My cargo net in my Acura has been fighting back for years...
Germany stuff is a mess when it comes to instructions... you can tell they have good intentions, but have a hard time communicating them!

Three Wheelin'
My friends mom has one of those along with a spare supercharger for the car just sitting around in their garage. Interesting little car but I would have preferred the manual version. Nice pickup though.
