Promising engine. Complete disaster of a styling exercise.

I actually really like the JDM/EUDM Civic Type R. I wish they would bring it to the states.

It's about time Honda offered a Turbo 4 for their cars. I think the 2.0L Turbo 4 would be pretty nice in the Civic SI/Accord Coupe, and ILX/TSX.

Better late than never.

Honda all over the turbo dream when they put it in the wrong car.

NSX will be a turbo
Some future Civics and CR-Z's will be a turbo
I wouldn't be surprised if the ILX had it as an option.

While that sounds crazy shocking.....especially the CR-Z (for I don't think it is long for this world in USA), Honda is going to be forced to keep up with the Jones' with forced induction engines.

You know you need to go turbo when MINI is putting a 3cyl turbo in the Cooper.

Hey, Honda is now selling a supercharger kit for the CR-Z AND going to offer a warranty when someone installs it aftermarket.

http://automobiles.honda.com/cr-z/hpd.aspx

So a turbo option from the factory doesn't shock me

And isn't the RDX the only Honda with a turbo from factory?

I think most peoples' problem with that was Honda didn't put it into cars that really could've used it. An 8th gen Si with that turbo would've been a great car I think.

Honda is very familiar with FI. How they fucked up 1st Gen RDX so bad is still a mystery.

Then again, US Honda/Acura got different ideas of how cars should be from rest of the world.

I like that that euro civic better than any North A. ones. My friend took me for a drive when I was back home and that thing was pretty sweet

What was so bad about the RDX's engine?

It was too under powered/small for the vehicle it was in and what they were touting as for power of a 6 mileage of a 4 it did neither

Now hopefully they will start to implement the turbo tech in the V6s for the cars as a top line option.

Why they put the first turbo in the RDX made no sense to me. What a waste of power. HMCo =

That was a typical Honda/Acura head scratcher move.

I agree it was a bad combination, but I don't know of any problems with the engine itself.

Aman, did you even look at the spec difference of this new one and that old one in RDX?

I never said there is anything wrong with the engine itself. I said 1gen RDX was a failure.

what is the purpose having a turbo 4? For Fuel Efficiency and/or Performance?

Did 1st gen RDX have either?

Have you ever driven the first gen RDX? Lag was terrible, mileage was terrible, and it was slow. It was cool it was turboed but poorly executed.

I did and the mileage sucked but it wasn't slow, it was fun to drive for a crossover.

It was a good engine in the wrong vehicle.

The types of people who buy RDX's want the more immediate torque of a V6.

Everyone and their grandma is driving Q5 2.0T's.. I think the RDX mpg would have been higher if they updated the stone age 5 speed

What, the turbo vs. the new V6? Not specifically, but I can guess ballpark figures.

What would you have thought if they put the RDX's engine into the 8th gen Si? Or the 2nd gen TSX?

Our local Acura used to give them as loaners and both my mom and sister commented on the lack of power.

I drove an 07 RDX tech for 3 years (07-10). There was slight lag around town but when you get on it, it pulls hard until about 5500 rpm when the tiny turbo dies out. It was not slow by any means. 0-60 in the low 6s for a 2 ton SUV in 2006 was pretty damn quick. Also the 5th gear torque (important for easy highway passing) destroyed any NA honda engine. It wasn't the torqueless J32/J35 that was in the rest of the lineup at the time (2006).

Gas mileage sucked, but that motor had more torque than any engine Honda had aside from the J37 in the MDX (at the time of introduction). That was impressive by itself, and would have been an excellent choice for something along the lines of an AWD TSX.

But as always, excellent engine, shit platform choice. That should actually be Acura's mantra instead of "ADVANCE".

But back on topic, I actually like the Type R, and I really like the power that engine reportedly puts out. Of course, we'll never see that on our shores, but it's still nice to dream.

Sure it had torque but it required boost and a significant amount of gas and air to do so. It also required revs. That torque was not as accessible.

The average small-ish/premium SUV buyer wants more immediate torque, not a build-up of RPMs and a surge of power.

Well, yea. That's why I sad it was a poor platform choice for that engine.

Hated the turbo lag. I remember i was asking myself in my head while driving "is this the boost or Vtec"

oh and the doors felt like they were made with 1 sheet of thin metal. Sounds just as bad as Civic when you close the door.

you would hate driving my Evo.

I mean the RDX had a single turbo engine with some half ass variable flow nonsense. Of course it's going to have lag. Only way to truly get rid of turbo lag is to reduce the size of the turbo, add another turbo, or get a BMW.

I have driven plenty of cars with turbo lag. Once with a supra with the turbo that was bigger than my head... talking about lag....

It is expected in certain cars. but definitely not in a "Luxury" SUV/CUV

Or put a twin turbo setup on their 3.5 v6 (just like ford has been doing with the ecoboost)
