As long as you can afford it and don't mined only having room for one more and don't require a ton of cargo space, I think its a practical car. I was also just debating on getting an 03 S2000, because I just drove a 2001 at my work a couple of days ago and I was very impressed. That car impressed me more then any car I have test driven to date. And I've tested a lot of cars. But, when I called my insurance company they told me it was going to be about $1000 more a year. So I'm just going to have to wait until I'm out of college to get one :'( .

totally impractical as anything more than a once in a while car. had one for a few months and that was it. and driving around town sucks in it, its like a civic until you hit 6k or so, then it gets crazy. but usually you dont get a chance to do that without appearing as a maniac to other drivers and having to rev the crap out of it to get to the powerband.

are you sure you are going to college? i mean, i remember having to haul stuff around, going out with friends, etc... and you can't do that with an s2k. the s2k is a 2nd car type of car. as for those that didn't like the characteristics of 2 animals in one, i loved it. gentle if you are gentle, mean if you stomp on it.

RSX's insurance here in Toronto is a hell more expensive than S2000.

yes impractical because you wont have a garage to store it. and 2 because you can't carry anything in it. its not practical for anyone that doesn't have another car. my friend is in the same situation, 22, college w/ 00 S2K and he wants a beater desperately b/c he worries about his S2000 and its not a great ride for everyday things.

practicality isn't one of the S2000's strong points.
But if you really want one, why not? My buddy had a del Sol and it worked okay for him throughout college.
Junkster, who thinks S2000 would be hard to maintain in college

Now I will say that the car is tame below 6000 rpm, but even then it drives likes a Prelude. And by Prelude, I am more so talking about the 4th generation VTEC model and not the (overweight) 5th generation one. Looking at the weight and torque numbers substantiates my claim and shows just how ridiculous his Civic claim is. I own both a S2000 and a Civic, and I honestly say the S2000 (even at low RPMs) is simply light-years better than the Civic. Anyone claiming the contrary is either ignorant or a moron.

(Note - for those that don't know, lower is better)
At one time we owned a 1995 Civic EX, a 1993 Prelude S, and a S2000. I can say with the utmost certainty that the S2000 (below 6000 rpm) felt consideribly stronger then the Prelude and the Civic wasn't even in the same ballpark. It sounds like operator error was likely the culprit for you thinking the S2000 (below VTEC) was no stronger than a Civic.

ugh, I hate trying to defend Gilbo at times, but I do know what he's trying to get at...
The S2000, in slow traffic, is hell to drive. The engine achieves most of it's umph at high RPMs, more than the usual Honda engine. I've heard this from almost every S2000 owner I've talked to. Great car for highways and swift traffic, but when it's gotta live in the under 40 mph, it's supposedly hard to keep her reved high enough to keep her moving. I've heard that the new improved 2.2 in the S2000 is a bit more toned down for regular driving.
My old Integra was like that at times. My dad used to complain everytime he took her out on the town, that he would have to slam her down to get her moving in slow traffic. But he did like the highway drives in the thang.
Boy, I've got three posts left for 4000... gotta use them wisely... instead of defending Gilbo, which he can do on his own.
Junkster, whose waiting for PW Friday

Honestly, I don't know of any manual tranny car that's fun to drive in slow bumper-to-bumper traffic.

I say go with whatever you feel more comfortable and what you'll enjoy more. Everyone has differnet taste and so do you. I like the S2K but with that money I'll rather buy something else. Simple as that. But in your case, you like the S2K then go for it! Some people can't afford it so they bash it. Know what I meant? Some people bash my buddies G35C saying it's POS and stuff cause it's slow. But yet, those people are the ones driving civics and tegs with swaps so they think they own the road. Want another example? A stock SRT4 will smoke the S2K. But which has class and will pick up more chicks? And since you're 18 and in College. I'm sure a S2K will be a chick magnet!!! (not the SRT4)
btw. I really don't undertand why members still care or pay any attention to that gilbo dude/chick. Whenever he posts or makes a useless commment, just ingore him like he never posted. Why waste time of your life with people like him?? I don't.
