Honda FR-V

Three engines will be available for the range, including a 2.2-litre turbodiesel, and Honda says the wide-track chassis has been engineered to minimise body roll "while giving excellent ride comfort and class-leading manoeuvrability with a small turning circle".

The other two motors, each petrol, are a 1.7 VTEC and a two-litre i-VTEC with a choice of SE and Sport trim levels.
Does this car have any chance of making it to North America? Or is this the RD-X? Looks like a bigger Fit. Or could this be the small car that Honda plans to bring over? Price in the UK stars at £14,750 which equals about 26k US, which seems way high I think.

domn, who is quite interested.

Seems like Honda's mini cross over? Small stuff like that appeals to Europeans but not so much to Americans. I'm sure it will sell well with the diesel. You can't compare UK prices to NA - lots of taxes and other things included - the TSX sells for the equivalent of about US$40K in the UK.

No I said the price when coverted seems way too high. But like biker explained, you can't really convert pounds to US dollars when it comes to cars.

There's no way this thing will cost 26K US.

Definently not for everyone. But I'd give it an 8 out of 10 when it comes to practicality.

Domn, who wants the practicality of a Minivan or SUV with the fuel consumption of a Civic. This may fit that bill.

Lots of those types of vehicles in Europe. Event he Toyota Avensis (mainline mid sized sedan) has a version of that. It's the minvan substitute for Europe.

It's ok if you don't mind rolling over.

I guess I should have mentioned I want to spend no more than 20K CAD as well

So that eliminates the 36K CAD Escape Hybrid immediately.

A diesel CR-V will get close to 40MPG. Too bad you can't get it in NA.

do we have any information with respect to size, weight, other powertrain info? If this is smaller in size, wouldn't it cannibalize Fit/Jazz sales? Or is the 2.2 version a replacement for the Si? The info relating to turning radius, minimal body roll and maneuverability makes me think that this is a car that, with some bolt-ons and suspension upgrades would make a good road race candidate.

This thing is a minvan compared to the Fit and the rest of the stuff won't matter since it probably will never make it to the NA. The 2.2 is a diesel and has little to do with Si.

40% of VW sales in Canada are Deisel sales. Why Honda and everyone else doesn't give us deserving Canadians a Deisel option I have no idea

I'd be all over a Deisel CR-V.

The powertrain choices for this thing are kind of weird - since everyone must offer a diesel in Europe Honda had to throw its only diesel in it and the 2.2 is rather big for this application but they had no choice. The two gas engine choices are quite weak - par for the course in Europe.

So the 2.2 is too big and the 2.0L too small? or do you mean its too underpowered? For a 2.0L it makes 160HP which is more than alot of other 2.0L's from the competition.

Is it a strecth to suggest this thing may be based off the CR-V platform? If so then the 2.2 should be right at home. Its the 1.7 that seems out of place IMO.

The interior seating configuration is innovative, though. I just don't like the looks.

Yeah, the 2.2 is too big. In Europe, most cars that have both a gas and diesel choice, the top of the line usually gets the biggest and most powerfull gas engine. In this case the diesel will the best performer and be the standard engine.

It says the 2.2L is a turbo. So it will have torque numbers of a 3+ liter NA diesel. Those are boat-towing numbers. A bit overkill for an econobox.
