Hitting VTEC in first gear is just fine, regardless of which transmission the car has. Just keep it under the redline and execute a good shift into 2nd. Anyone who tells you differently officially doesn't know jack-s**t about Hondas or cars in general.

Take it easy on him folks.....

Kills gas mileage, and doing it very often can be hard on the engine. Otherwise occasionally hitting it, I dont see harm in that.

^Agreed. Do it occasionally. But it isn't bad.

The bigger worry with repeated full-throttle VTEC explorations in 1st gear is the shift into second; speed shifting or otherwise trying to make it dragstrip fast will put strain on everything from the clutch to the halfshafts. No tire chirping please, your second gear synchromesh ring will thank you.

Every engine will have more wear and tear if you beat on it. It's going to be fine.
Your mpg will go down though.

how is using an engine feature going to damage it? its totally fine, its there for a reason.

Well that's just the thing, it won't. Mind you, anyone who spends the lion's share of their time above 6,000 rpm should probably change their oil more often and keep an eye on the air filter, but that's about it. These engines have a bombproof reputation for a reason.

Well I'm not saying its going to damage the engine, just saying that it puts more stress on the engine and other components that increases wear.

You can hit VTAK six ways to Sunday everyday every light, every where you go. It's not good for your gas mileage, but that's about it.

I see what you're saying, but we are also talking about "VTAKKK" here.

With VTEC, there is really no need to ever shift into second...

Mine sees it (redline) to many times to count in a day, and i still run 12-15k intervals (i have the oil tested on occasion to let me know how its doing, report always shows oil is good). No issues in the 360k miles

I don't see the need to hit that high into the rpm band in first gear unless you're launching the car, tbh.

exactly!!!! the motors are built to do it...I don't go a day driving any car i've ever owned where it doesn't hit redline at one point in first and at least second....usually 3rd as well

why would launching hard be the reason to rev the car out

I average 20 with plenty of WOT. On the other hand, my autotragic transmission will be lucky to hit 100k

it doesn't seem to harm the B series VTEC motors. We had a 20 year old kid in my hometown with a '99 Civic Si that would redline that engine eveywhere he went. You'd see him almost every day driving up and down Main St. with VTEC in full song. I don't believe he ever had a problem except for when he stopped paying on it and the bank took it back.
