Hidden EZ Pass?

Hey, just curious, has anyone hidden their EZ pass behind the grille or bumper? I have a bumper mount one but no front plate, I ran it behind the grille of my last vehicle and it read fine and was invisible, I tried it on my TL and it doesn't read where I found space, I put it on top of the damper thing behind the grill but no dice, awaiting paperwork lol. I'm wondering if it would work behind the vents on the bottom of the bumper? I just hate the ugly ones in the window... Any advice/pics/super stealth hiding spots welcome.

How about just hiding it in the center console and when you pay a toll hold it up to the windshield?

the instructions told me to place mine below the AS1 line on the windshield.
it looks fugly.

if I ever decide to waste 15 dollars, i'd relocate mine to the AS1 line.
it would be sorta hidden with the factory tint line.

I had mine hidden on my TC in the front grill and never had any issues. Now I have the same problem as you. Hid it in the front grill and it never worked but once. Trying to figure something else out now. I will let you know if I figure anything else out. You let me know if you do as well. I also was using the front tag mounted one. I hate having to ruffle through everything to get the tag up to the windshield and also hate shit mounted to my windshield so this is the route I went last time and it worked great. Loved it and hope to get it to work again.

I have the winshield unit with the velcro, but sprayed the tape, along with the back and sides of the unit flat black, placed in the center just below the "mesh" and can't be seen, but works everytime.

True, but if you knew you were going on a trip where you are going to cross a bridge or pay some kind of toll, wouldn't it just be easier to find the ez pass in your console and then take it out, or at least sit it on top of everyhting prior to leaving your house? That way there is no fumbling through stuff in your console to get it to the windshield and hold it up. Or if you're not using your cup holders sit it inside that compartment and close the lid. That way you don't see it, but it right there when you need it.

I don't use a toll road often, but I use one of those transponder holders that have suction cups on them. You just then slide the transponder in before your trip and when I return I take it out. This works well for me. The holder is in the tinted area of the top part of the windshield and still transmits.

I bought a case that I think is used for running that is about the same size as the transmitter with a stretchy band and Velcro. I put the ez-pass in it and attach the case to the passenger side visor using the strap. When I am approaching a station, I flip the visor down. Works great.

I'm glad somebody else gets it lol. I'm gonna see if I can figure out something on my break at work, if not I'm gonna just try to fish it out and hold it out the window for this weekend. EZ Pass is fugly, I felt so clever finding a spot on my TBSS lol but it doesn't work here... I wonder if cause it's on a metal block now or too low behind the grille... I might try the bumper on the passenger side so I don't block my CAI, I'll let you know how it works down there, might as well get all my tickets taken care of at the same time lol.

Here take a look at this http://auto.howstuffworks.com/e-zpass2.htm

Sorry I am at work so I can't really be saving pics to the computer and posting them.

The ez pass works on radio frequency. So most likely the lower and more hidden you put the transponder the harder it is going to be for the antenna to pick up the signal, especially since all toll plaza's are desinged different. The tag reader might be lower in one plaza making it easier to pick up the transponder in the grill, but then larger toll plaza's the reader may be higher making it tougher for the tag reader to pick up somehting so close to the ground.

Also you have to think about the threshold that you have to break in order for the tag reader to even start looking for the transponder. The front on your car may already be passed that point at some tolls and then having it hidden so low to the ground and behind something may make it impossible to read.

**And yes I know they make tag mounted ez passes, which would pretty much negate my last point about the threshold, but it was just a thought.**

I had mine in the front grill and these grills are much thicker than the TC was so I think the signal cant' get through the plastic of our bumpers. It has to be more "visible" I think. I will try to figure something out. I even thought about using the in car EZ pass in a sealed plastic baggie since that thing will pick up in my glove box of my wife's car sometimes if I don't cover it with tin foil (yes i've traveled with my car and my wife's ez pass read in my glove box the entire trip charging twice for each toll) and hiding it in the bumper area. I understand everyones point about its easy to get if and use the suction cup holders and what have you but I don't know how else to explain it other than I am VERY VERY anal almost OCD about clutter in my car. My glove box is empty other than my owners manual. Center console is very organized with one pen and my portable GPS in a case with the cord coiled up and velcro'd nice and neat with my glasses in the door and change holder in the door. I like it that way because I can easily find what I want when I need it and I hate having a dirty car. My wifes car takes 5 minutes to find the damn ezpass because she keeps EVERYTHING in her car and every compartment is PACKED full of crap.

I hear ya on the being charged twice thing. That happened to me once with my ex's car and the ezpass wasn't even out in the open either. Funny how it will pick that up, but won't pick up the tag if it's in the bumper area, go figure.

Just went out on my break, got under the car, cut the zip ties, only had packaging tape around the office and some clips, I put it in the passenger side bumper vent, we'll see what happens tonight lol. If it reads there I'll use some 3M tape under it.

I rarely use the turnpike, just had to drop my wife off at work so it was quicker that way, every few weeks I get on at WG then straight to NJ. It was the first time I went on since I bought the car.

If you have a moonroof, you can velcro it above the moonroof slider. There should be a cavity there just enough for a ezpass without blocking the movement of the moonroof.

Bumper grille reads fine in PA and NJ, behind the main grille is a no go. I'll take a pic of exactly where when I mount it more securely, although a strip of packing tape does hold at 90mph. The sunroof cover is a good idea but the bumper one is much thicker.

I'd like to hide mine as well, but I don't feel like paying for multiple transponders since I use it in both cars and my motorcycle.

So I just mount it using the velcro as high as possible on the windshield, behind my rear view mirror so I don't really see it. Its basically hitting the headliner in the FR-S, since there is very little dot matrix shit on it.

I have an Ipass, but I painted mine flat black and have mine on the top portion of my moonroof cover lid. It fits between that and the glass just fine and works perfect there. Havent had it not get read there.

Sunpass in FL, same thing.....

On my explorer it's mounted directly on the tint strip & is invisible from outside. Works fine. On my car I keep it un mounted & just stick it on the window with the suction cup mount when I need it.
