Help me replace my 2013 ILX.

I was thinking the same thing... don't become car poor. Don't finance a car for 96 months, regardless the rates on it. In five years you'll be like "fuuuu I want something else" and still owe a shit ton of cash on the car. Cars are such a nice and easy way to work your debt level up.
I realize you might be passionate about cars, but keep it within realm. Buy a house first. Establish yourself. Get your lines of money straight. Then start looking at nice cars. While it sucks the ILX got bumped yet again, it pretty much comes with having a daily driver. There's way too many idiots out there. Plus, who's to say the RC350 won't get fucked up, too. Then you have an even more expensive car that you'll be pissed off to drive, and getting rid of it becomes that much harder when you owe lots and pay little every month. The car traps you, unless you're willing to take a big hit.
plus, nice cars will always be around. The more you hold back now, the more you'll be able to afford later. I'm not saying wait until you're 60, but shit, even at 35 you'll be able to afford something even better than you can now, likely with less stress too.
I dunno. Personally, I'd just keep rocking the ILX. It looks good and you've built it the way you like. The other shitty thing with pricey cars is that mods are equally pricey as well.
Had i known 12 years ago, what I know now, I would've bought a house 5 years sooner and held off the car stuff a bit longer.

I've found more enjoyment out of both of my cars by keeping both.

Lol at TLX suggestions. He wants a car he can mod. TLX has shit for aftermarket parts availability, and he's looking for something actually sporty. Let's face it, below the surface, the TLX hasn't exactly changed much. Yes, suspension is 2% firmer, blah blah. Still 99% same car.
OP didn't complain about the lack of mods for his ILX. He had some done actually, all cosmetic as it is his interest.

Some day I may spend that much on a car.
If I made miminum wage though, I'd buy a nice used economical car that won't break down and costed unnecessary monies. It's fine to be medium pimping baller on a budget for a while.
Caveat: unless you're trying to use your car to pick up the honeys (of questionable taste), in which case it's Civic all day, with chrome stick on b-pillars. :simp:

2. My ILX has more in performance mods than it does in cosmetics.

This is all very well put. And while I do agree with you, I cant say I am responsible enough to follow your excellent advice. hahaha I mean as of now I already consider myself car poor. If I can get into a car I enjoy driving (currently I honestly dont enjoy driving the ILX I just like looking at it) and still make similar payments (paying 365 right now and Id be willing to hit around 400 monthly) then IMO it is worth the 3-5 more years of payments.
I truly expected to hold onto the ILX for a while. The deal breaker was learning how low of a trade in the car would get. Aside from the damage other people have done I am sort of ashamed to be driving around in a car I spent 30k for that is now only worth 12k. Like downright ashamed to show my face in it at meets. hahaha People ask me about it and my only thought it "you want it? its only worth 12k!"
Like I said though I admit that is very good advice and it is what my father should be telling me. But he's not around god rest his soul so Im in the clear to make poor discussions.
Thank you for the honest response and opinion taco. I wont lie I am kinda swooning over all the respectful responses and advice I am getting.

So while I may be leaning toward Lexus right now Im not opposed to checking out more models.
I am keeping in mind all the good suggestions.
Why whats up? Im hearing a decent amount of people telling me to check them out but not look at the A3.
Im have already been paying off a 30k car so from how I see it adding 9k to the price isnt going to break my bank. Im just kind of starting over with payments.
For real though Im trying to get with those authentic JDM bitches if you know what I mean... No replica JDM girls here. They need that JDM grill or that shit is faking the funk.

Sad to see you go. Your ILX I've seen everywhere (mainly reddit) and is the reason I bought mine.
Don't buy a $40,000 car making minimum wage. The high price of entry plus the cost of planned "mods" on an RC will absolutely destroy you. And you're not finding 2015 RC F's for around 40k anywhere. I'm not even wasting my time in verifying this, I know its just impossible a $80,000 Lexus is selling under $40,000 only 2 years later.
Since you mentioned Audi, how about a 2015 Audi A3 2.0 quattro? They are absolute rockets (0-60 is almost 5 seconds) and can be had for around $20,000.

And keep in mind the ILX Im paying for now is 32k so the way I see it a newer faster more refined car for only 5-7k more is very worth it IMO.
But yeah I was wrong saying RCF. I meant RC Fsport. The RC350 Fsport MSRPs for 41k. So a two year old used one should fall into a range I can afford.
I wouldn't be apposed to an A3 sedan. Ill add it to the list of possibilities. Thanks.

you're still paying on the ILX, which would roll over onto the new car. and you're not even accounting interest.
How about fuel? bigger engine consumes more fuel.
how about insurance?
how about mods?
rear wheel drive will eat tires more.
for real, it's going to cost you MORE than $7k

It is all about how you take care of your stuff.
Here's a video of Ludacris and his 1993 Acura Legend that he still drives it daily.

One thing to keep in mind- all cars get hit hard on trade in value. It's what literally every single dealership does. They low ball you, and in turn, maybe spend $1000 to fix the car (or not), and sell it for 5k more than they gave you. Dealerships make more per unit on selling trade ins, as opposed to new cars.
You'd be better off selling the car privately. I'm willing to bet that you'll get a few thousand bucks more for it that way. The down side? Waiting for the car to actually sell, and wasting time on potential buyers. But, is a bit of time and waiting worth the extra few thousand dollars? That's up to you to decide.

The engine should be a noble NA V-6, not that weaksauce 2.0T.
Plus Audi drivers are giant douches. You don't want to be one of those people.
You belong in a Lexus, not an Audi.

- WTF.. paying $365/mo for an ILX
- $9/hr.. wtfshit
- Let's say you got 15k for the ILX, authentics and all.. how do you figure you have a $400 payment on a 40k car? That's an 84 month loan assuming you have decent credit.
Jon, I've given you a lot of shit bc you're a fuccboi.
But you shouldn't be jumping into a high interest long term loan, doesn't matter how much you make.
There's plenty of reasonably priced low depreciation vehicles that you could trade, for not a lot of money on top of the ILX.
I don't consider the ILX all that refined.. so the refinement bit is a matter of personal preference. Why not WRX, GTI.. lots of options.

The A4 isn't nearly as nice as people say. Yes it is winning comparo after comparo but the magazines are all corrupt.

best advice I can give after chasing unicorn farts and fickle needs and wants in the automotive world.
after a few weeks and months all cars are used cars with their own sets of issues and annoyances.
love the one you're with...you already paid the bulk of your amortization. buy an accessory (if there are any left you don't own, maybe start Steven Belling it with legit CF?), sell and buy new wheels (stop hoarding!), do some maintenance and or wash and wax that bitch and take even MORE photos. I was bored with the 3G TL at least 3 years before selling it and I regret ever doing it all the time because the mistake we're making is loving an inanimate object in the first place.
she might be a mess, but she's YOUR mess and that can't be said for someone else's vehicle. you don't want someone else's used crashed over modified ILX.
I think you get what I'm saying.

As others have mentioned, I've heard positive things about the IS350 F-Sport--but it has to be the F-Sport version.

Also, have you considered something like an older (2006-2008) BMW Z4 coupe with the 3.0L (I6) engine? They can be had for around $20k used (around 40-50k miles on the clock) and are known for reliability as well as performance.
