HELP license plate screw head is stripped

even a new screwdriver (flat and phillips) wont work for the phillips head screw. The screwhead is round, so pliers wont work.

what should i do? (i dont have a dremel)

You have two choices: either use an extractor as people have mentioned, or drill it out. If the extractor doesn't work, using a drill to remove it is very easy. Take a center punch and lightly make an indentation in the center of the screw. Using a bit smaller than the diameter of the threads of the screw, drill carefully and straight through the length of the screw. Use increasing larger drill bits until most of the screw is removed. Do NOT go past the width of the threads. By this point the screw (or what's left of it) can be threaded out by hand.

Visegrips are your solution. This is coming from someone who removes and installs 10-25 license plates a month. It doesn't matter that the screw head is round, it will work.

Clamp them down as tight as you can on the screw and you'll be able to get it out.

think its time for a trip to The Collection in Coral Gables. lol. i saw 5 458s on my lunch break today. 3 reds, a yellow, and a white. and the yellow and the white ones were driven by 18 yr old puerto ricans. ugh, i need to make more money.

thanks guys..sounds like the vicegrip should be my first option, as it seems to be the easiest.

Clamp it down tight, as tight as you can possibly get it, soooo tight that you had to adjust the vicegrips 1/30th of an inch just to get them to close. You'll know that you are doing it right if you see the screw deform as the grips clamp down on it. Only then are you ready to do the twist.
