Help: Hit and Run!
Help: Hit and Run!
My parents purchased a car like two weeks ago (still has dealer plate), and today some fucking asshole hit the rear bumper and took off without leaving any kind of information. my dad has an idea who did it because when he parked his car, he saw the car that parked behind him. This happened area where my parents work place is, so I'm pretty sure that it was one of the neighbor that lives around.
If I find this fucker, is there a way him/her to pay for the damage? If I see his bumper, I am sure that I can confirm that he/she did this... If he/she denies then what should I do?
Some of my idea:
1. shit on his hood
2. slice all four tires
3. key the whole car
4. slice all four tires and key the whole car
5. Karma is a bitch, so let the fucker slide

I honestly think that cop won't do shit.. It happened to me before and no result what so ever.
I would rather not going to insurance to claim this damage.... few scratches and crack on the paint (thinking around $500 worth damage?).
Tony i'd file the police report anyway. Get proper documentation from police stating that someone did a hit and run on the car. This way if you find the dude that does it, you also have the report to show to him and the insurance company. Document the damages and if you see the car that hit your parents' car, take pictures of it too.
Oop I didn't see the insurance part. Police report to document something happened, and if you find the person that did it you can ask them and then show that person you filed a police report. See if they want to settle it by cash, or tell them you'll go after their insurance company.

From past experience most of these people are dumb as bricks.... there's a pretty big chance they'll park in their regular spots/area. Any paint transfer onto your parents' car?
I'm not sure but I don't think police have to show up unless someone is injured. If that's the case I'd insist that an officer comes to check it out, or ask f you can drive out to the station and have them do a report there.
I've never encountered that... they came and wrote a report last time for me.

My dad saw a black truck and rear bumper has black scratches, so I'm pretty sure it's that car.
I think the cop has to show up to write a police report. I will call tomorrow to see what I should/need to do.

I think there was a thread recently where someone on a base (assuming they're in the military, then) had a hit and run case, found paint rubbed off on their car, then found the truck that was the same color, AND had the color of their own car rubbed off on the truck, but I cannot for the life of me remember how that person settled it. It was pretty win though.
happened to my daughter's car a few years ago. Found the truck that hit her car-had her paint on the bumper. Ended up going to small claims court. My daughter won-we took lots of pictures.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
+1 on getting the police involved.
When my car was new, a few stupid people thought it was cool to roll into my rear bumper and back off afterwards. I got myself a rear tow-hook so that doesn't happen anymore
pruss my car looks maddd jay-dee-em nao!

and I do know how to handle things in mature way. It's called rant! Some of you guys took this maybe little too seriously about the revenge part.... I was just ranting more than anything. I'm not stupid enough to do that to anyone, so I would appreciate it if you guys don't make anymore comment towards "revenge" part.

update:
My dad found the witness when the accident happened.... I'm going to talk to the witness and call the police to report this.
What would happen to that person? Is hit and run big deal?
thanks!

Hit and run is a big deal. Leaving the scene of an accident from a cop's POV is a big
If the other party has insurance, they are fuxored. It's also not unheard of to have civil suits filed against the other parties for damages etc that were caused because they fled the scene, i.e your time to figure out what happened, get your car fixed, time lost from work, financial losses (recovering your deductible if you went through insurance, lost wages), etc. At least that's what I've heard.

Sigh, it's LA. it's like the most common thing to have happen to your car here.
Happens to my Acura twice. I'm sure it happened to my pathfinder (but that would have damaged their car not mine
) I dont park the challenger in public places for this to happen. My wife civic was backed into by a large truck or suv since the damage went over the hood.
Hell, my wife called to tell me she parked the Prius for a doctors appt and came back and someone did it to the rear bumper on the prius. The car was like a month old.
People just suck here.

That is good news. They should cooperate and pay you or they could be charged with a crime. We recently dealt with a hit and run with a little old lady in the parking lot of a restaurant(2weeks and $400later). I recommend Dog Feces under the drivers door handle. It's a good way to let the offending party know that they have made an err in judgment by not leaving a note.

I love everything about LA but way too many idiots around...
I called the local cop and he sure doesn't give a shit about it... I understand that they deal with cases like this all the time, but this sucks!

Cosmetic damage + no one was hurt + conclusively proving they did it = cops don't waste time on it and can go on working on more serious crimes.
I'd say plan something out in your head....post it on the internet...and then go out and vandalize somebodies shit in return. Ya....thats always a good plan. Shit....why dont you post vids of you and your buddies doing it while your at it. Thats always real cool!
I will make sure to make a vid and send it to you... what's your email address?
before you make a post, make sure to read the rest of the thread.
I said that I was just ranting.

Maybe when there are injuries or significant physical damage but in this case, as mentioned above, the cops don't really give a shit.

Definitely do the insurance part. Later if you, the cops or the insurance company is able to find the person, the insurance company will go after them to get their money back.
We had a hit & run a couple years ago. Did the police report, insurance, etc. Had a partial plate and partial description of the vehicle.
Several weeks after the accident a cop shows up at our door and says they found the guy. Cop that did the accident report just kept his eye out while on patrol and spotted a possible car in a shopping center near where the accident happened. Did a little looking and found evidence of damage consistent with the accident. Snooped around and found it was some kid working in a restaurant there.
Busted. Admitted to the whole thing. Insurance got their money back, we got our deductible back.
Lucky? Maybe. But part of the "luck" was using the process the way it's set up to be used.

on him

and the cops don't care...typical response is "ya got insurance....well, use it."
